When the call came, Qanik hadn't been precisely busy so much as she'd been consulting with one of the healers - the strange one-eyed wolf named Shay - or rather listening to his strangely monotone voice chattering on with what she assumed was excitement about what he thought might have caused the disease and such. She didn't see how it really mattered, what she wanted was a way to get rid of it, not a lesson on how it may have evolved. So when the call came she took the opportunity gratefully to excuse herself - as gracefully as she could - from the wolf's presence and head for the border.

To her surprise, she caught sight of Roman approaching another female she didn't recognize. And she knew she'd have recognized her if she'd ever seen her before, for the wolf was the brightest red she'd ever seen on any animal other than a bird. The herbs Elli came up with must have been helping a bit if she was on her feet now.

The blue-eyed ghost moved up beside her, a few steps back so her head was at Roman's shoulder, silently offering support without making Roman look weakened. The woman had offered herbs, saying as Qanik had come into earshot that it was intended as a peace offering, and Qanik regarded them neutrally.

She didn't trust them, of course. Poisoning an alpha - or a whole pack - would be a very convenient way of defeating them without battle. Though, in their current state Tortuga may not be capable of putting up much of a fight anyway. The red woman had named the herbs, but Qanik knew little about them and could not even tell them apart, and she wasn't sure Roman knew any more. She sent Roman a questioning glance - was she lucid enough to realize the danger? Or at least lucid enough to realize she might not be capable of making a good decision?

For now she remained silent, simply studying the red woman with an expression measuring and carefully neutral. Her doubts would drastically upset what was possibly a diplomatic situation, and that was the last thing Tortuga needed right now.
