She saw the sign she had been dreading, the moment reason left the face of the black and white wolf. His blue eyes seemed glazed even across the distance and through the darkness, sparking with a light that seemed both warning and promise in one. And they alighted on her. A shudder raced through her body, visibly causing her to shake, and she pinned her ears more tightly to her skull in a way as if begging not to look at her, to look away, look anywhere else. She felt herself slip slightly back into her crouch, slowly, carefully, praying that she could stay safe no matter what happened.
Suddenly he was on the move, slinking with malicious intent across the snow and past Awaken. She glanced toward the darkly colored wolf, expecting him to do something, anything, to stop the wolf from coming her way, but instead he let him go. The shaking returned more visibly, more consistently, and she willed herself not to sink against the snows, to keep her feet and run. But she was glued. She couldn't bring herself to go. He was staring at her, so crazed, so determined, that she felt as if he had already one. He already had her. He could already hurt her.
He jumped, she clenched her eyes shut, and even as she cried out, a strangled whine, she heard another, a loud, rumbling growl. Confused, and still immensely frightened, the little white wolf's dark brown eyes snapped opened and fixed themselves on Awaken as he pinned the other male beneath his paws, ordering her to leave. She needed no further encouragement as he instructed her to leave. No sooner has Sixx moved to snap at Awaken's face, Mercianne turned and dug into the snow, propelling herself forward and away from the fighting and towards the safety of home.
