The Hunters Emerge

A rush of adrenaline kept his leg from hurting unbearable as they executed their plan. Winter watched as the murderer overcame Dusk as he attacked the mother. Winter swiftly grabbed the babe as soon as he saw his friend had the elk down. The fawn was trembling and screaming for help - though, it would do no good. Winter latched his jaws around its throat and savored the trembling of his last bray and his struggling heartbeat. Ah, the heart struggled so fiercely against Winter. Beating rapidly, mirroring a bird's tiny heart, as it tried with all of its energy to keep the fawn alive. Soon, though, the heart died and so did the fawn.

Winter carried the fawn over and lied the creature on top of its mother. It would be the last time the two shared their warmth, soon to turn cold and then devoured by hungry predators. The two would then drag the kills together back to their den. The others would be proud of such a large prize.

As time ticked, the drug wore off and Winter's limp became more severe. The wound lied open exposing flesh and dried blood painted his paw in red. Though, the pain was unbearable - the feast was worth it. His wound would heal in time and the kingdom would be fed.
