Dhiren Destruction had been protective of every female in his inner circle. His desire to keep Novel safe from the outside world was enough to drive anyone insane. Thankfully, he had Ara there to ensure that she wasn't alone. Then, there was Guinevere... Temporarily, she had been pushed out of his circle, only because he was hurt and lacked the trust that had slowly been building. That didn't mean he didn't care about her anymore.
As the young man was distracted by her, Song had picked up the reins that he had let slack. He was grateful for his mother and when she realized that he needed a break from the pressure of becoming more and more of a ruler. So Song carried on, letting the mirror image of Cherokee deal with his thoughts. While he did that, Dhiren remained obsessively protective over Guinevere. She had been moved from the den after a few days of rest and recovery. He had been there, along with a few other wolves of Sawtooth, to move her and the baby to a safer location.
Their new occupied den was close to Dhiren's, set off in the forest near the Springs. The location had a large clearing in the middle of the woods, showing five dens that were set in a semi-circle for the moon-shaped structure. Dhiren's den was in the middle, but he could still see her if he sat at the front of his entrance. With that comfort in mind, he could stay as far as he wanted and still know she was safe.
One particular afternoon, the rain decided to come down. It soaked everything and made the atmosphere dreary. All of the summer colors were washed out and Dhiren took that time to eat a tender piece of deer meat. He had torn the large leg off of one of the bucks that had been caught in a recent hunt, eager to enjoy a few bites of the succulent prey. After a bite or two, he realized that he couldn't enjoy it without feeling guilty. His gaze moved to the scenery outside his den, and saw the sleeping form of Guinevere amidst the blurry rain. A sigh escaped his lips and he raised himself from the ground before taking the leg into his mouth. He broke the rain with his black form and padded towards Guinevere's den.
Upon reaching the mouth of her home, he saw that she was still sleeping. The babe beside her snuggled tightly against her stomach, sleep still overpowering her small frame. Dhiren's heart beat stronger for the infant, but the memory of realizing how she had come to be prevented him from showing any affection. Slowly, he lowered the leg at the entrance of the den, close to Guinevere's resting head. Tears hidden by the rain ran into his cheeks' fur before he pulled back to retreat to his den. It was like this every time he got near her: he couldn't speak or look at her without getting angry. Maybe this was how it was going to be for the rest of his days, he didn't know...
