Using a stick, the young titan poked at one of the tar pits. He dipped the free end it and then pulled it out, watching the sticky black liquid drizzle off back into the pool. A stench rolled off the pit in waves; with it, bubbles oozed up and burst, releasing more of the unpleasant odor into the air. Laufey was mystified. He'd never seen anything like it before. Dipping the stick in a second time, the boy stirred it around, probing the foul smelling substance. His search wasn't in vain; the stick grazed something hard and using it as lever, Laufey was able to hook the edge of the object and slowly raised it out of the tar. The stick bent and threatened to break, and the young titan, unwilling to give up his prize, chose not to pull his catch out completely. Instead he rested, holding a piece of the object above the pit and letting the tar run down its sides. The tar dripped off lazily, slowly revealing the shape of the boy's prize. A bubble burst, unveiling a hole in the object, and the contents of the bubble rolled down the long sloped side of the object. The thing was rounded on one side and long on the other. In fact, it almost looked like a- The boy's eyes widened, his jaw going slack as he let both the stick and the skull he'd fished out sink back into the tar pit. "Speech" |
