The tar pits bubbled and rolled on the sides of the tough terrain, the sticky black liquid clinging to the air in strands as the bubbles burst. Each bubble released a noxious, heavy odor into the air, thickening the feel of the place all together. Esti's nose burned slightly under the stench, and her paws scraped against the ground. She had taken a leave. She had developed too many feelings, too many sticky strings, her life had become like the tar pit ndit had been pulling her under. She missed them. Even now, it was pulling her under. Dusk, Titania, and Winter had surely forgotten her or scorned her name by now. She was no longer their princess, this was true- it had always been true, in a way- but some small part of her wished for those times together again, longed for their companionship. That's why she had left.
The tar pits were disgusting, but it was fitting for Esti's troubled mind. She wanted again to let loose. She wanted to be free. These desires seemed to always be on her mind, something of wanting to be needed and wanting to be free seemed to never let the girl rest. The small and surely temporary darkness of the girl's mind matched the terrain she tread. Grays and blacks surrounded her, and yet, there was a small amount of white in the distance. It was moving, and as Esti approached, she knew it was a wolf. The small amount of white wolf grew and before long, Esti, even though she couldn't smell the wolf's scent over the tar, knew it was her brother.
A small breath caught in her throat. What was her brother doing here, anyway? It had been ages since they last met, since they argued over a stick, but it had all been fun, even though she had lost. She wasn't bitter... She was a little bitter. Her excitement overcame her grudge, however. She really did love her brother, though they rarely spoke. Her tail started wagging as she padded closer and even though she tried to think of a mischievous ploy, she was really just too happy. The girl gave up and settled for trotting up giving a cheery, sisterish, "Laufeeeey!" before going in for a slobbery lick on the cheek.
