Take a walk on the wild side

As a Guard, it was his duty to protect and patrol the borders of Secretua and ensure that those within remained safe from the dangers without. While he knew he ought to take these responsibilities seriously, particularly being the son of the pack's Guardian and therefore held to a stricter standard because of it, Eirik continued to slack. Pack life was...odd now. Without his cousin there for him to pester and to be pestered by him in return, part of the fun seemed to have left the place. On top of that, the pretty green-eyed girl from the east had surprisingly decided to stay, which meant the grey yearling was much more conscientious of what he did, particularly when she was around to see. He felt like he was being stifled on all sides, and it was beginning to get to him.
It was a bad choice, a poor choice for the pack leader's own son, but Eirik abandoned his patrol anyway and ventured off outside of Secretua into neighboring territories. He had never really been one for exploration - even now he was not altogether sure which direction he should go in or if the places that he traveled through should have had more appeal than they did - but the change of pace was nice. Even with the nagging voice in the back of his mind that shamed him for ditching his responsibilities.
His black paws, turned brown by the muddy conditions of the swamplands, were slowly beginning to lose their speed as his guilty conscience began working its magic. He should be home. He needed to be home. Not here with-- Oh. But he was not alone, at least not entirely. Another youth, was nearby, a dark colored pup with a build just a little smaller than his own. The smart thing would have been to keep going along the path his guilty thoughts had already decided upon, back to Secretua and back to work, but... "Hey," he called out to the kid, not all sure he was even bothering to talk to him at all. Maybe he was desperate for someone to remind him of his cousin. "You know this place?"
