breaking promises

She would sit with a heavy knot in her belly, afraid that the woman would simply cast her away for calling her that. She worried that she was going to lose just another part of her family. This woman had taken her in with no questions asked, had treated her with kindness and respect. How could she not think of her as a mother? It was hard not to. She had taken a grand liking to this little green woman. She had worked her way into her heart with those pointy horns and long hair. She looked like something out of the fantasy stories she used to hear, and now she was taking care of her. When Dione finally spoke she smiled softly, tail thumping against the earth. It had been an accidental calling, but she had felt this way about her for awhile now. She was about to say something else when Dione answered her other question. All signs of joy vanished from her face, as Mercy reeled backwards as if she had been struck. A look of horror replaced the one of love on her face, tears pooling in those vast purple eyes. Lips pulled back into a snarl, her head shaking violently. "No... No!"
She roared, backing farther away from the woman. "You promised me! Promised! I guess that meant nothing to you, dis it?" She spat, tears steaming down along the darker pattern on her face. "I thought you were different, but you are just like everyone else!" Her words like venom she spun away from Dione, hackles raised again as she stomped off. Her angry appearance was thrown off by the erratic movements of her flanks, sobs shaking her large form. For the first time ever, Mercy felt like reaching out and breaking something, to tear into something with her fangs and claws. She wanted destruction. She had thought that her life was finally turning around, but what a fool she was...
