A desperate call rang out for a healer, and Kassander woke from a doze with a start, on his feet a bare instant later. He hesitated a moment before leaving his den. He couldn't just run off willy-nilly; he needed to be able to treat them when he got there. But what to bring when he didn't know what the emergency was? His tail cricked in indecision he pawed at his stores. Echinacea was one that could come in handy for anything from snake bites to diseases. Elderberry for the immune system. Comfrey, boneset, arnica... and valerian root, for that call sounded awfully panicked and he might need something to calm the caller down in a hurry, or an injured wolf. Wintergreen for pain - he was glad he'd gathered some recently. If he needed something stronger he'd return to his den. He gathered the herbs in a bundle of lamb's ear leaves and took off at a sprint. Coming upon the caller, his eyes quickly identified Solas, and Solas' formerly-absent sister. She looked in rough shape, but didn't seem to be wounded. Disease. Kassander gulped, taking a steadying breath. He was the only one to have responded; it was up to him to care for her. He moved forward and dropped the bundle of herbs. He pushed aside the comfrey and arnica, and bit off a chunk of valerian root. "Chew this up for me, please," he told Solas briskly, moving to Ada. He pressed his ear against her chest, listening to her breathing, counting her pulse. He moved a forepaw to gently knead at her abdomen to check for pain responses. "Adalgisa, can you hear me? It's Kassander Xanilov, I'm here to help. Are you in pain anywhere?" |
