and it's our time now if you want it to be, maul the world like a carnival bear set free

Warmth was something she had grown accustomed to, and even in her simple mind, it was becoming boring. She longed for something more. What was it? Nothing else existed, other than this blessed warmth and the pressing forms around her. The babe had been stewing in her own juices for a while now, growing big and strong alongside her siblings, known only to her now as lumps that occasionally lashed out at her. Now, it seemed, things were changing.

Over time, she had moved and shifted, until she was in the position that would make her birth the least stressful. However, when were these occasions ever not stressful? The contractions started rather uneventfully, nothing more than a gentle squeeze against her fragile puppy form every now and again. Her toes would twitch reflexively in response, a pitiful attempt at fending off this all powerful foe. No, she didn't want to leave yet! It was nice here! They grew stronger, more persistent, as time passed. If she had known the sound, she might have growled. Now, she squirmed as best as her weak muscles would allow.

Soon, the babe was expelled from her home. As she slipped into the realm of the living, the lavender babe squalled as mightily as she could. It was cold! Her voice was nothing especially powerful, although it was definitely pitchy and attention grabbing. Her cries would ring out until she was soothed by warmth. All this activity had warranted hunger from her, but it was not her main concern as of now. Instead, she wanted the warmth back. Why had it left her? Frail limbs would attempt to grip something, to find her warmth again. She was sorry to ever want more than the warmth, as now she craved it's return. How cruel was this? Her skin tingled with this strange new sensation, and she did not much care for it.

It was not long before she was joined by the squirming forms of some other beings, ones she had yet to recognize as her siblings. It was very icky here, wherever she was. Optics weren't even remotely close to opening, ears still sealed tight to her skull. She neither heard nor saw anything, but with mucus and fluids cleared from her tiny nostrils she could smell. It was a good smell, warm and.. tasty. There it was. A faint, clawing sensation in her tummy. NO LIKE. Was the only thing that could possibly be thought by the babe. She wailed frantically, seeking something to soothe this ache. What was it? Her belly hurt, and she did not like it one bit. Crying out for help, it was all the tiny creature could do now.

Finally came a saviour in the form of a warm muzzle, nudging her in the right direction. Squirming and worming her way toward the scent that filled her head with distinct rightness, she finally figured out what the problem was. Hunger. It wouldn't be long before her teeth latched onto a source of nutrition and sustenance, and she would be at peace. The words of her mothers would fall upon deaf ears, but a name would meet the air, one she would know herself by for the rest of her life. It was a good name, this one. Absinthe. Drinking her fill ever so slowly with brand new mouth muscles, she would eventually manage to drift off into sleep. Sleep was a good thing.

sometimes I just wanna sit around and gaze at my shoes
