and it's our time now if you want it to be, maul the world like a carnival bear set free

The sunlight at the mouth of the den taunted the violet girl, dared her to step into the golden rays. Oh yes, this was the day, she could feel it in her wee little bones. Already it had become obvious she was the smallest baby, her sister Millicent was already taller than her. Not that it mattered, it would just mean she had to really work at it if she wanted to chew on her sister's ears. Alabaster toes churned the dark sand beneath her tiny paws, eager to be out there. Should she go? Yes, this would be her adventure. It was clear that she was ready to be out there, and she wanted to see what the outside was like. Looking to her momma and her mommy and her sister, she wondered if she should wake them for this first outing. Her lavender plume stilled momentarily as she considered this, ivory stained features tilting to one side was she watched them. But she wanted to go outside! She didn't want to wait for everyone to wake up and tell her to wait another day, or another week, or even another hour!

Without a second thought, she turned away from her family and bounded forward. The mouth of the den was a tempting thing, but she'd never been allowed to leave the safety and darkness of her birthplace. Poking her blunt snout into the sunshine, she marveled at it all. A goofy grin came to play upon her features; it was beautiful! The abundant ebony sands called to her. She wanted to race across the glittering beach with all her heart. There was some Diem to be Carpe'd here, and she wasn't about to tell the day she wasn't going to seize it.

With reckless abandon, she toddled forward on still unsteady limbs, ready to see what the world was ready to give her on this day. Finally, she was out and seeing it all! Childish glee bade her begin to giggle, while she trotted out into the open. What was all that just out there? It moved like a living thing, trying to crawl up the beach, and then sliding away again. Hackles bristling with wariness, the girl started her descent down the beach. What was it? Would it eat her? Fluffy tail sticking straight up in mild alarm, she picked her way toward the thing. Gosh, it went on forever. Her short, unsteady legs meant it took much longer than it would have for an adult to reach the edge of the dark beach, but she made it nonetheless. Her family had yet to find her, but she wouldn't be surprised if her mom's came to ruin her fun.

Sidling up alongside the thing, she watched it attempt valiantly to climb up the beach. It was a strange thing, all see through. Nervously she would slap at it with her pale toes. In reply, she was assaulted by beads of the clear stuff. It was liquid, she determined when she was struck in the face with it. Blinking the salty aqua from her eyelashes, she frowned at it. Hesitant steps led her further into the sea, where she was promptly tickled by the gentle drag of the shallow waves against her legs. Laughing, she started dancing in a small circle within the surf. This was great!

sometimes I just wanna sit around and gaze at my shoes
