Soliloquy tried to keep to himself in many respects though there was a part of him still actively seeking out his family, his children in particular. Every now and then when he caught a scent of them he would follow in hopes he might 'accidentally' run into one of them, be able to reassure himself and Isolde that the children were fine. So far all he could do, much to his chagrin, was commend Valentine on the spectacular job of keeping the family apart.
Though he was a man of many mistakes and many sins, Soliloquy did in fact have a heart within him. He was capable of caring for another to some extent and as he ventured upon the scene of angry buffalo, trapped pup and Mercy to the rescue he didn't spend much time thinking before he too crashed into the scene. For his niece's life or the pup's he couldn't be certain but he was going to help. Markings, scents none of that he paid attention to in the moment, with a deep growl joining the attack on the buffalo to hopefully drive it away from the child.
