The other alpha's words took him aback. What was she proposing, a... a duel? He didn't like to risk his family's lives in this fight that was true but Sigmarr and Sindri were already risking their lives and even on the off chance they could pull them off Aerndis could he even trust this wolf? "I..." he started to say, though he wasn't sure what exactly he was going to say, before chaos broke loose. One of the Fiori wolves he'd brought along had jumped a younger Arcanum wolf, and a blaze of movement streaked toward him. Him. A sick feeling curled in his stomach at the prospect of his first real battle, but with only a split second to prepare himself he fought it down. His legs spread slightly, the weight distributing evenly between all four legs, and his joints bent just a little. His tail and head both moved to be level with his spine. His shoulders rolled forward, his chin pulling back, and his hackles rising as his ears pressed against his skull and his eyes narrowed. His snowy paws spread wide, and his toes flexed to press the dull tips of his claws into the earth for better grip. And then suddenly she was there. He took a hurried sidestep to his own left, enough to bring himself partly but not completely out of harm's way as the taller Skadi's left shoulder struck glanced along the upper part of the front of his right shoulder and drew a moderate bruise from it as well as a hiss of surprise from him, and he stumbled slightly as he sought to move forwards slightly past her right shoulder. That hurt! As they struck her attempt to stomp a foot that wasn't there partly succeeded as his right foot had nearly taken the place of his left, so her attempt scraped down the outside of his right foreleg and left very minor welts where her dull claws caught him. He was lucky he ducked his head defensively before he moved, because she attempted to latch her jaws into the left side of his face and instead her teeth gouged along the top of his skull, opening moderate furrows horizonally between his right eyebrow and the base of his right ear the length of his eye. Holy crow that was close. Shifting his weight to his other three legs he sought to pick his stinging right foreleg up and try to wrap it around the front of her left foreleg halfway between ankle and elbow in an attempt to pull her leg towards him. As he did he continued to shift his weight to his hindlegs and even as he was trying to curl his paw around her foreleg he was trying to throw his weight sideways heavily onto the point of his right shoulder, attempting to force it against her right foreleg just above the elbow in the hopes of dislocating the elbow joint. He winced as he made the attempt, sick at heart at the idea of hurting someone so seriously, but he forced himself to continue, and to do worse. Simultaneously with his other attacks he twisted his head so his muzzle pointed to his right, toward the right side of Skadi's body, and he attempted to dig his teeth into her side just behind her ribs and halfway down from her spine. Would she still keep trying to fight if he succeeded in injuring her so gravely? He would need to take her prisoner so that he could treat her wounds, because any healers this pack boasted were surely subpar and he couldn't stand the idea of having killed her just for protecting her pack...
