Gargoyle watched him ? the slow progression of question, recognition, then shock. To Rogue, this was Gargie coming back from the grave. Perhaps it would?ve been more acturate to said he was coming back out of hell. The Rogue hung his head then, and something pulled at Gargie?s heart. This was the pain his disappearance had caused. Crusade had been different ? as soon as she?d seen him on the border she?d came streaking across the snow and took him in a flying tackle. Rogue?s was a more quiet realization ? rather fitting to Gargie?s memory of him.

?Of course brother, how could I forget who you are?? Gargoyle?s spirit leapt with those words. When Rogue pressed against him, Gargoyle tucked his chin, rubbing it affectionately against his brother?s scruffy skull. How long had it been til he?d smelled Rogue?s scent? A lifetime ago. The brother?s exchange was far less physical than Gargie?s had been with Crusade, but then they were males ? and in truth this was just as tender.

When Rogue pulled away his eyes were alight with humor. Gargoyle should?ve seen his next words coming. Nuts to him! He knew perfectly well this fine figure of a wolf had always been a giant ? even among them as yearlings.

As Rogue?s words continued , Gargoyle?s jaw dropped lower. ?..Why you insolent little TWERP! I could toss you around when we were pups and don?t you think I can?t do it now! GET BACK HERE!? Gargoyle lunged after the marbled male, exploding out of the tundra grass and sprinting after him. He?d soon learn that size had nothing to do with speed when years of training were involved. Back in the old days, Gargoyle was the king of their litter?s tussles ? only beat by Blaize a few times. Rogue back then had been more of a hunter than a fighter and he?d been easy pickings. Now though they were both big, scarred males ? which made their pup like antics all the more ridiculous to see.

Gargoyle pounced after his brother, trying to tackle and pin him to the ground. ?You should know better than to insult the Chief.? Gargoyle said with a meaningful wink, then added affectionately. ?Idjit.? Then he cocked his head thoughtfully. ?But then? Crusade told me you were Glaciem?s Chief for a short time too?? Gargoyle flopped his hind quarters back on the tundra ? as though the weight of all those years came back to his mind.

But he shook his head, still eyeing his brother with a pupish humor. His words, however, were serious. ?You must have a lot of questions ? and I?ve got a few of my own. But you said you were tired.? Gargoyle nodded his head back towards where he?d first been laying. ?Come on, you can help yourself to the rest of my goose. While you do that-? Gargoyle?s eyes faded once more to their usual blank state. -?I?ll tell you about where I was.?
