"...I didn't see him per say because I'm blind." Sabine jerked back, neck arching and chin tucking as instinct pushed her away from the woman. It wasn't fear that drove her back, but a surprise so strong that she couldn't help but react defensively. Kalliope was blind too? For perhaps the second time in her life, the giantess was stunned into silence. She couldn't believe it. But why would she lie? It had to be true, it was a terrible thing to lie about and there couldn't possibly be anything to gain from it unless she was the type that craved pity.
Kalliope went on to ask if she was the blind sister Aki -damn him and his tattling- had told her about. Finding her tongue, she answered briskly, "I am.” Sabine hated talking about her sightlessness, hated it with a white hot passion. But...this was perhaps one of the few opportunities to do so without feeling the pity from whoever she was talking to. "I...” Her usually fire was gone and in its place was a tentative curiosity that she was unfamiliar with. "I've never met someone who was blind before,” she admitted carefully. For the time being Aki was forgotten.
