She moved like a ghost across the land, a small ball of fluff that was trying so hard to retreat into the shell of herself. It had been a couple of days now since she had last run into someone kind enough to share their meal with her and already she was beginning to wilt and fade away. She moved with little to no grace, her body in an awkward transition between pup and weanling. Though the fur on her legs had become more sleek with age her torso still had dense, thick puppy fur was still evident in some places. She had never really had a mother to groom her and get it off. It was worst on the back of her neck and shoulders where she couldn't groom herself. She looked similar to a molting bird at this particular point in time, trying to get rid of her baby fluff but there was still some adult guard hairs poking through. It was apparent to most who say her that she would be quite sleek looking when she grew up if she ever grew into the massive ears atop her head and those giant eyes that seemed to swallow up her whole face. All in all, most say the same thing when they caught a glimpse of Kadence, a broken, fragile young thing that had so much potential. Potential she never seemed to be able to see in herself, compliments often fell on deaf ears when spoken to the youngster.

Downcast eyes followed the ground as she moved through the trees towards the sound of water. It was really the only thing she could get for herself anymore. She had hunted mice and shrews for a bit but she seemed to expend more energy catching them then she gained from eating them. Her hunting skills were seriously lacking with no one to teach her even the basics to help her survive. She realized that soon she would need to ask for help beyond sharing a meal but she had yet to trust anyone enough to want to. She had sat for a while with one female, Chaya, and they had spoken lightly of Kadence's past but nothing in depth. The female had been going on 9 years old though and was fading faster then Kadence was. She would have liked to stay with that old white wolf but she decided that she could watch yet another loved one die before her so after an hour of talking they parted ways with heavy hearts. Almost 3 days of straight walking later the frail young pup found herself slowly approaching a river in a land that she didn't know. But that had been her life for the past 2 months, simply traveling on her own...

Tiny paws came to rest at the edge of the river and slowly her huge eyes turned upwards and turned downstream. As always the beauty was so stunning it almost took her breath away and for a long moment she stared at the scene painted before her in wonder. But the thirst took over and she slowly bent her head to lap up the life giving liquid. Her stomach was past the point of rumbling and now seemed to twist and contort within her violently, demanding sustenance of some sort. She was almost ready to eat bark soon if she couldn't find a carcass to scavenge or another kind soul to share their meal. But for now her stomach seemed to sweet a bit as the cool liquid filled it. After a few long minutes of drinking until she could hear her belly slosh she finally allowed the front half of her body to slid to the ground, paws draped over the edge of the river bank so toes dipped into the rushing waters below. She rested her delicate skull atop her paws and closed her eyes for a moment, letting her mind drift and be at ease for a short time. She couldn't sleep out in the open like this, she had learned that much quite quickly, but she allowed herself to rest and her senses to roam.
