leaving the comfort zone

It wasn't often that the scent of a another would pique his interest, let alone that of a child. But it was rare to find a child so young without their parents, and he felt some sort of empathy - though he likely would not admit it out loud. Frowning a bit, his paws would carry him down the creek, searching for the source of the scent. Though he was nearing the age of two years, and his appearance was that of an adult, he still felt helplessly young.

His brows furrowed as the girl came into view, a bit of concern shining in his crimson eyes. Despite spring's arrival, some snow still dotted the earth and the child was padding through it. Though she was alone, she didn't seem upset, and he would tilt his head a bit as he drew closer. "You lost?" Steel would ask quietly, from a distance, not wanting to startle the girl.
