There was power underfoot. Sabine had never fully bought into the reverent religious teachings of her family. She was too cynical, too skeptical to accept it all without question, and yet this place and the warmth that seeped up from the ground was almost enough to make her wonder. Almost.
The presence of another did not go unnoticed. Sabine lay at the base of a tree and the footsteps of the other as they walked by had her guessing that the stranger was several yards away. Whoever they were, their steps sounded preoccupied, like their attention was diverted elsewhere and they were walking blindly.
Tail flicking, Sabine offered, "Got your eye on something?"
