His daughter was the first one to speak up, mentioning the Hot Springs, and the possibility of tipping such a beast into them. It was an interesting thought, but the idea of contaminating one of the pools with such a quantity of meat… along with the loss of what they could not harvest and add to their stores.

It was Mojito’s mention that stirred the memory. His sister, Io, had taken him to territory not far from here and shown him how to chase bison off a cliff. The haul they had taken away that day had been impressive. But a mammoth? Now. that would be something to see.

“I see where you guys are getting at with the hot pools, but anything big enough to trip a beast like that wouldn’t be something we could haul it out of easily. The sulfuric waters would be contaminating the meat all the while. Mojito, your onto something” he nodded his head towards the horned wolf, giving credit where it was due. “Iolaire and I had gone bison hunting some seasons back, and the tactics we used to startle the bison off a cliff may well be something we can employ here. We need startling things… loud, frightening, bright. If we move quickly and in the direct we want we could chase them.. Here” he had been drawing a rough map in the dirt with claw as he spoke, he stood back now so all the assembled wolves could see as he tapped a mark on his map. “Loud, bright, and disturbing. Lets assemble what we can and get familiar with the directions, any questions?”

Aragonesa listened to those around her, but still didn't have any advice from herself. She was only here for the ride. She would help the pack however she could. That was certain.

Sirius had mentioned what seemed important for them, loud, frightening, and bright. Aragonesa quietly spoke out, "I don't know if fire would help, I don't mind crafting some for the driving." It was at least all she could offer in regards to supplies. Especially with her slightly smaller frame. These creatures were entirely on a different size spectrum, even to those who were large like Sirius. She had a feeling the creatures wouldn't be easy to move like any normal prey they hunted.

She would wait for the rest of the hunting party to put in their last final words before they prepared. As self conscious as she was, she had found courage and confidence in her in this moment. A quiet, sad girl she felt did not suit her. It was time for her to explore more of who she thought she was.

Valor listened as others threw out ideas before Sirius pointed out that the waters of the hot springs would be too sulfuric and contaminate the meat. The gears in his whirred as he tried to think of a different solution, but a floppy eared wolf had a better idea. There was a cliff near here that would be perfect for the occasion. So long as they stripped the meat from the bones it would probably be a more simplistic task than tripping them in one of the pools. Not to mention it meant that their food wouldn't be soggy after they took one of the beasts down.

Gossamer had shared with him how to make fire. He could easily assist with making things should the need arise, but he attempted to think of other things that could help startle the herd. Chasing them would be one thing, but was it possible to even startle them? The size differences between the wolves and the mammoths were stark. "I can help with collecting sticks for the fire if you need." He offered his aid towards the woman who had spoken (argonesa) before falling silent once more. While old age was causing him to slow down and think about his actions, he was still more of a "do it now and think about it later" kind of guy in a lot of situations. He would gladly nip at the heels of one of the beasts well before he expected to think of crafting something loud and bright.

It was admittedly a pretty validating feeling to have the warlord agree with his proposed idea, though he didn't really know how to act upon it. The boy had hardly ever left the empire's land, even as he had left his birthright behind. A few of the other members pipped up and slowly the boy moved towards where the bulk of the children were, smiling at those he recognized, mostly the warlord's children, and doing a quick headcount so he knew how many were here in the event he needed to quickly reference their numbers during the hunt.

A particular young man caught his attention, he was younger than the warlord's other children and yet was too old to have missed his attention if the boy was around the pack... and yet he seemed wholly comfortable here... another new Klien then? That was worth noting, especially since of all the Kleins he'd ever seen ones with scales and that glowed were totally unheard of for him... another new cousin? Or perhaps a new princling? For all his dislike of his family, the boy had never done anything to earn his ire and so he wouldn't take it out on him on an assumption of his bloodline... and even if it turned out to be true, until such time as the child learned to be an asshole about blood quantum he'd not have an issue with him.

With the tripping idea shot down, Ada decided to keep her mouth shut. Maybe she should leave the thinking up to those that were better at it. The young wolf's brow furrowed and she felt a little discouraged, but the excitement that surrounded a hunt soon perked her spirits up once more. She listened as Sirius laid out a plan and agreed with his decision, nodding as he spoke.

When it was suggested that they get bright things and loud things, the girl tilted her head for a moment. "Torches are a good idea. Most things are afraid of fire. Some of us could chase with torches while others snap, growl and howl." Well, she said that she was going to leave the thinking up to others, but there she went. They would have to choose a target and separate it from the rest. "Which one are we going to choose though?" She spoke out loud, head tilting in the opposite direction. They would all need to be on the same page. Creeping forward, the bob-tailed fae dropped to her belly to watch the beasts more clearly. She looked for age, injuries, unnatural gaits. Anything that might prove to be a weakness to the prey and a boon to the hunters.

And It's The Stars That Shine For You

Stjarna nodded at the mention of fire. "I can craft some special pitch that we can put on the end of sticks. It will burn longer and give us more time than just the stick burning." Star did not fancy getting a face full of fire and the pitch might help a bit against the wind generated from running. The pool idea still could work, the idea being to drive them toward a smaller pool to trip them, not engulf them, like tripping over a stone. However, it seemed Sirius was intent on driving them over a cliff if they could get them running long enough. This would be a good test of stamina. Even if they couldn't get the beasts to the cliffs there was a chance their prey would tire before they did. He had heard of wolves keeping a moderate pace after prey, the stress and constant movement eventually causing the weakest to collapse.

Gossamer perked up at the mention of fire. "I can help! I know how to make fire, Ásta showed me." She was eager to be useful on this hunt even if it wasn't an area she'd been specifically trained in. She leaned over as she looked at her father's map, her head tilting to the side. "That seems like an awful long way, do you think we can keep them running that long?" She considered herself pretty tough but running for several territories seemed particularly grueling. Still, she didn't want to be outdone by any of her siblings.

Briar hummed thoughtfully when her father mentioned how they might not be able to pull it out of a pool that would be big enough to trip it on top of the fact that the waters would contaminate their kill. Ah well, she had at least given an idea. She listened as they discussed some other ideas and tactics about getting the mammoth over a cliff with some loud, distracting, scary things of some sort. She looked at the map that her father drew, tilting her antlered head a bit as she memorized it. Okay... seemed easy enough! She got to her paws and looked around at the others as they started talking about how they could collect supplies and craft things. "I'll help Valor collect sticks," she offered with a nod.

I can't destroy what isn't there
Ada raised a good question, they need a singular target for the group to concentrate on. Wolves spoke out, voicing different ideas in crafting fire and collecting the parts needed to do so. He nodded his head to Valor to collect sticks, to his amnesia wolf to create it, and Stjarna to create the pitch. The others offered support in those jobs, and he gave them his approval as well.

“Ada, pick us the target while the others assemble supplies.” He ordered the young girl. He would assess the manner in which she used to pick their prey. It would be a good mental exercise for her.

He gave time for everyone to gather the things they needed before the hunt began properly.
