It was time he and Gerhardt talked. So much had happened... but had he been informed of anything? Hell no. If he hadn't attended the pack meeting he wouldn't know a thing about Seracia. Especially not about he and Adette's split. Why hadn't he told them yet? Father of the year award goes out to... anyone but him. Valkis couldn't help the snarl that bubble within his chest. He was tired of being treated like shit, tired of being an outcast. He wished the years would come faster so he could challenge Gerhardt already and steal the throne. But no, he would wait until the perfect timing. The once the deed was done he would hang Gerhardt's head for all to see. A new king would take power in Seracia. It would no longer be a democracy. The young man's head swung back as he sang for his step father. They had much to diciss.

ooc; playing this like Ger already knows about the death threat, because he will find out in THAT thread which is dated ICly before this one. However, he will give Valkis the benefit of the doubt and whatnot, so no worries really.

The meeting had gone well, with the exception of the pale look on Maverick's face as he'd heard the news of being betrothed. Still, the boy had gotten over it quickly - or at least hidden it - and managed to finish the meeting just as Gerhardt had expected him to. He could not be prouder of Maverick and Kamala. Valkis, on the other had, he was frustrated with. He'd always known the boy resented him, always sensed it, but to put a death threat on his head? That was a little extreme. Valkis had mentioned speaking with the King after the meeting, and Gerhardt would oblige him. He may know about the change of heart in his son, but he would give him the chance to explain himself - if he could. Valkis' chorus rang out and Gerhardt hastened to the call, unwilling to keep the boy - man - waiting long. "Valkis, son.." he would speak with a disheartened tone, distraught that his second son wished to see him dead - by his very own claws! The King would drop his haunches to the earth. "Speak your mind," He would find out what his son needed to get off his chest, and then determine what action to take after that. No doubt at least one of his questions would revolve around his mother who had left.

He waited for a few moments, but finally, he appeared. His father. Valkis held the growls and out bursts back. It was hard thing to do, but he did it. His right ear flicked back when he called him son. He had no right calling him that, he treated him like no son. God he hated him. The king sat down in his haunches, but Valkis did not. He remained standing, muscles tensing beneath his pelt. If things turned nasty he would be ready. "Why haven't you told us Adette left." The first order of business had been served. He honestly wanted to know why Gerhardt hadn't personally taken the time to tell his "children" himself. Did he not see the matter important enough?

The boy remained standing, leaving the King feeling on edge about the nature of this meeting. Still, he would do his best to give the boy the benefit of the doubt - hopefully Valkis would not abuse it. The boy would speak, asking why Gerhardt had not told them about Adette's leaving. "I am still gathering information on her whereabouts, I didn't want to tell you without the whole story, but it seems the trail has gone cold. Your mother left, she then attempted to commit suicide, but was saved by two wolves and carried off to wherever they live. Rumors say the Valhallans have taken her in, but I do not know if they are true or not. Believe me, Valkis, that is everything I know about the situation. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you sooner," In truth, the King was surprised he could talk about it at all. Still, every day he grew stronger, and every day he hoped and prayed the once Queen was doing well. He still loved her, and probably always would.

Gerhardt answered his question, but his response only made the flame within Valkis ignite larger. She had left, tried to kill herself, and now she was either dead or in Valhalla? And he wasn't going to go look for her? Was there any love left between them at all? "And you aren't going to go searching for her? Did the love you felt for each other fade completely? Because when we three were taken in, we were sure we had forever parents; and now they aren't even together, and one might be dead." He couldn't hold back the growl bubbling in his chest. It truly angered him that Gerhardt had just thrown their relationship away. But then again he hated Gerhardt and wasn't fond of Adette anyways. Just the fact that they had split ways angered him. They were the closest things to parents he had. "If you don't go looking then I will, and hopefully Kamala and Mverick will follow. Why can't you two just work things out? My mother and father had been together for a long time and had no intentions of divorcing, because their marriage actually meant something." Words dripped from his fangs like venom, a disgusted tatse taking place in his mouth. He couldn't even imagine Rancor and Akira divorcing. He couldn't remember much of them, but that he did know. Their love was real.

He doubted his words would do anything to quell the boy's hatred for him. He knew there was no changing that, no matter how hard he wished he could. Where had he gone wrong with Valkis? How had he made him so hateful? By saving his life? By giving him a home? It didn't make sense to the King. "And what would you propose I do when I find her? I still love her, but love isn't everything Valkis. You're a young man, you've still got a lot to learn." He doubted that would make Valkis like him any more, but it was something the russet son needed to hear. He didn't know everything, and wouldn't ever know everything. "Do what you need to do, son, but I don't believe it will do much good. If your mother doesn't wish to be here, we cannot - and we will not - force her to return." Last words were stern. Valkis could go and see her if he wanted, and Maverick and Kamala could go too, but he would not allow them to try to persuade their mother to return. Gerhardt knew she wouldn't, and didn't want anyone making things worse. "I'm sorry if I've failed you, Valkis. Believe me when I say I have done the best I possibly can. I wasn't prepared for children when you three arrived, and I've done all I know to do, but I fear it hasn't been enough. I'm sorry I couldn't save your parents, if I could have.. you know I would have done so. I know you resent me, and if there's something I can do to fix that please.. let me know." Tone was pleading, he wanted to make things better between he and Valkis, he wanted the boy to have everything he ever desired, but he knew it was a long shot.

"Love isn't everything" but shouldn't it be enough to not drop a two year relationship with your wife over an argument? Apparently not in the kings eyes. Valkis could only imagine what the king saw in those deep celestial eyes. He may have been young, but he knew what love was. He saw it almost everyday, he craved it. He wanted to feel the touch of a bride at his side, he wanted the life his mother would have expected him to have. But as of right now he had no intentions of starting that life, all he cared about was his anger and mushrooms. What a productive life right? "If she loves you like you've made me believe she does, she wouldn't need to be forced back." Venomous words dripped from his tongue as he spoke. He had such a high expectation on love, and this was killing it. He went on, apologizing for failing Valkis. His lips curled before he could stop them, he couldn't hold it back. He didn't want his sympathy, he didn't want an apology from him. He didn't need one. "Your apology and sympathy aren't needed. There's nothing you can do to change the past. I learned that the hard way." His tone was harsh and colder than ice. He didn't need some dumb apology and proposition to make Valkis forgive him. The past would never be fixed. Never.

Gerhardt knew how skeptical all of the children must be with the sudden divorce. He had been unsure about it himself, but now - in hindsight - he knew that it was the best thing he could have done. Though he regretted it terribly, and often missed Adette more than he'd ever thought possible, he knew it was a good decision and would not sway from it. Still, he didn't blame the russet boy for not liking the idea. He would have forgiven him altogether if it wasn't for what he'd heard from Maverick. It seemed that Valkis had hated his father all along - and this was merely the icing on the cake. "She will not return if there is no prospect of things being the way they were - and there is no prospect of that. What is done is done, and I'm sorry that it's so painful. You've gone through enough pain, and I'm sorry to add to it." He listened as more biting words spilled from the lad's mouth. What had caused such blatant hatred? "Then what is needed, son? What can I possibly offer you, or do for you? What can I do to change your mind about me?" He knew the answer would probably be nothing, but he had to at least try. If he didn't at least exhaust all of his options, he would never know if there was hope for change. If all options were exhausted and the boy still would not relent, Gerhardt would have to take action.
