The dark before the dawn

He had had the most wonderful talk with voltage the day before and had warned his brother a little of what he was planning to do - and of course his brother would be a vital part of what came next. It was some god early hour of the morning, the sun had not yet risen and he worked quietly under the cover of the night to set his plan in motion. He picked the sturdiest sunflower he could find for phaze one, and a softer toned and pretty one for phaze two. With the sturdy one he started from the end point and made his way towards her fen, gently pulling off the flower petals as he moved. He couldn't help but add in under his breath with a soft laugh "she loves me... she lives me not" as he gently pulled off petal after petal and finished at their temporary prairie den. He then gently laid the husk of a flower at their door, putting a little blue stone on top (this was inspired by voltages love for collecting stones and to help Anais realize the flower wasn't there by accident) He winked conspiratorially into the darkness knowing volt was out there somewhere waiting for the right time. Glacier then turned from the den and vanished back up the trial he had made, thankful for the total stillness of the night. There wasn't even the hunt of a breeze and he knew his little trial would be safe. His part over for now, he settled himself onto the cliff top that adjoined and was accessible to both the beach and the Prairie... and he waited. "Burn Baby Burn" |

Voltage was ready, and oh so excited! He was up and ready when Glacier was setting his trail, sitting near by and practically dancing on awkward paws. He could barely sit still, his eyes shining brightly. He loved his brother dearly, and was more than happy to help him set this plan into action. Everything was perfect, and she would love it. So when Glacier turned and winked in his direction, Voltage was ready. He stood up and hopped towards the den, doing as Voltage does best and just practically exploaded into the darkness. "Ani! Ani! Come Quick!" He chirped happily, pawing at her closest paw and grinning his toothy grin. "I need your help! I want uncle time, I need to see the puppies, can I? Please please?" He chuckled happily, bouncing in his usual bouncy energy into the den to poke the gentle little mouse to life. "I need some neice time. Go on, out you go!" He said with a brilliant laugh, eyes shining brightly and no matter what she did, or how she fussed, he would attempt to herd her from the den and block her out so she could see Glacier's surprise, and he could spend a good few hours with his nieces. Win win! "Burn Baby Burn" |

Walk | Talk | Think
Anais had hardly stirred when Glacier slipped free of their new den, thinking nothing of it and merely making herself cozy in the warm, empty space left behind. So long as the girls slept, she intended to too, and considering how adventurous they both were - they must have gotten quite a bit of that gene between both families - she knew she needed every minute of it. On her side, she lay partly curved around them, both pups nestled in the gap against her stomach between her forelegs and hinds. She slept comfortably, peacefully, and very much content.
Which changed the second she heard Voltage's voice. The unexpectedness of it combined with the urgency as he pawed at her paw startled her into wakefulness, and fighting off drowsiness Anais rolled somewhat quickly to a more upright position, unsettling pups as she went. "What's wrong?" she asked in a befuddled, half asleep, and worrisome voice, a shred of fear seeding itself in her chest as she realized she was being woken up in the middle of the night again. Was there more flooding? Did they need to leave again?
The shock helped to wake her more quickly, and also helped her realize more quickly as well that Voltage was smiling. It should have brought relief to see him smile, for whatever reason that he smiled, but it only brought her great confusion that worsened as he tried to explain himself. Uncle time? Now? She blinked, turning her head slightly to peer outside of the den, and realized the only light to come inside her dwelling was very faint. It was not even morning yet, and he wanted time with the pups now?
"Voltage," she sighed, "I don't think--" She could not begin to comprehend what had possessed him to wake her up - and the children at that - so he could spend time with them before they had gotten their full rest, but he gave her no room to argue or turn down his request and promptly poked and nudged her up off of the floor of the den and on her way out of it. "Wait, you can't--"
Disbelief and surprise left her staring open mouthed at the den as she was essentially kicked out of it, and her mind whirled as it tried to make sense of the unbelievable circumstances behind her very early morning. Her brow furrowed and her shoulders slumped as she glanced about, wondering where Glacier was and if it was possible for him to either explain what in the world had just happened or put it to rights, when she spotted the little glimmer of something shine upon the ground beside her paws. Absently she angled her head to get a better look, and felt a little stirring sense of recognition as she reached out to paw at the objects. A stone and...a petal-less flower?
Something was up.
Anais lifted her head high and tried once more to peer around in all directions, searching within the predawn darkness for any sign of her mate, but there was none. Nothing out of the ordinary...except for a soft, pale flower petal leading away from the den. Curiosity piqued, the golden brown hunter followed after it, feeling her mind and body wake up as the first petal led to another, and that one to another. What are you up to, she wondered as a smile began to spread across her face, feeling her certainty grow that these petals were not placed here by chance but with a distinct purpose.
She followed them as they led away across the Prairie and toward the back of the cliffs that overlooked the beach, ascending the rise to find where the flower petal trail ceased. Her suspicions had grown the further along the trail led her, and by the time she found Glacier at its peak, apparently waiting for her, she could not stop herself from smiling while her eyes stared at him in puzzlement. "What's all this?" she asked gently, curiously, through a chuckle, meaning everything - from the flower petal trail to Voltage rousing her as he had from sleep.

He wouldn't know voltages style to kicking Anais from their den but the mere thought of it amused him. Voltage was a bundle of energy and a willing candidate for their plot to lure Anais from the den and to the cliff top, and he could easily imagine. He didn't have to wait long, but he passed the time looking out at the cliff top, watching the stars and their soft sprinkle of light along the endless water. Everywhere he looked from this vantage point he could see nothing but the ocean – it still swallowed their precious beach and lapped against the base of the cliff top, where their beach entryway lay hidden. Even thoughts of the flooding couldn't keep him from wondering what was happening back on the Prairie. He could imagine Voltage making quick work of their scheme and Anais was likely out of the den by now, no doubt bewildered. Would she have found the stone yet? Followed his little trail through the grasslands and to his side? He stuck his nose in the air and smiled, still not the slightest stir of wind. It would be like this that Anais found him, walking quietly into view. He turned fully at her approach, watching the golds of her coat shine a brighter, whiter, color beneath the soft star light. He couldn't help the radiant smile that turned his rich toned lips upwards, or the sparkle in silvered eyes. There was mischief dancing in their somewhere, beneath the love and wonder he held for her. A mischief brought on by the days events, what was to come – and of course, for Voltage's part playing as a blessing for the two couples union. Hearing the question in his love's voice, and the curiosity in her golden orbs his smile grew softer, and he nudge the delicate sunflower from behind his giant's foot, and touched it to her own soft paw. “I thought you where over me sneaking these in behind your back, but I can't give up the mystery and intrigue, so I brought you to me. With a little help” he told her, a little misleading from the days true intention – but he wasn't ready to say it yet. He was waiting. Waiting for the soft golden rays to start their spread across the open sky, for the sun that even now was nearing its moment to break across the sky and bring brilliance to the ocean behind him. As he spoke, and delayed, he caught the first sign of sunlight and he picked up what he had hidden from her sight and moved a couple steps forward, so there was very little space between them. “Anais. I can't say I do everything in the right order, but I can say I can pick my timing” he grinned at her, keeping the situation from becoming too serious. “There is something I want for us, for my family to see, for our children to attend. Something to do alongside Voltage and his Gaia – because it seems I can't help but do everything with that brother of mine” his chuckle teased her “I hope you realize where a package deal” he tucked the joke in with his proposal. “Anais. Will you marry me? Will you stand beside me before the end of spring, and commit our lives together with words as we have already done with our hearts and our actions? It might not be the quiet affair I can imagine you seeking, but you will surrounded by wolves that love us, that will share our lives and our joy from that moment and forever” he said, as the sunrise exploded behind them, washing the world in a brilliance of light and color. Anais smiled, amused and with a hint of suspicion, as her mate received her company, very obviously prepared and awaiting her arrival as the sunflower was promptly drawn forward and nudged her way. Her golden eyes fell to the bloom with a soft sigh, a little bit of understanding coming with the last of his explanation. Voltage. Of course his brother had been willing to jump in and play this role; he was just that sort of selfless creature to do it - not to mention she was sure he had taken far too much pleasure in the whole thing. "All for a flower," she laughed, shaking her head in disbelief.
While she thought she understood, Glacier's true intent continued to remain hidden, even as he stalled and eventually approached to bring them closer. Bright eyes lifted from the flower still at her feet to stare upward into the midnight blue wolf's silver gaze, and as the meager frustration Anais felt at her early wake up dissipated, her smile softened sweetly for him and in appreciation of the continued effort that he put forth to show his affection for her. She really was the luckiest wolf to have won his heart, and to have someone so special hold hers in return.
He proceeded, in his own unique way, to steer their conversation, and the golden brown hunter continued to miss the point, feeling her puzzlement return as Glacier spoke of timing, of something he wished to include his family in, and more specifically Voltage and Gaia. Her brow furrowed as she tried to consider what he might mean, though the only piece she understood wholly was that they were a packaged deal. "That's why he woke me up this morning," Anais chimed in to express her comprehension, though she was in no way prepared for the proposal that followed.
The emotion in her face transformed softly but swiftly from confusion, to understanding, to shock. For a few endless seconds she stared slack-jawed as her mate at last spelled out what it was that he had kept hidden from her, the grand schemes of their wedding should she agree. Almost immediately, her yellow-gold eyes began to fill with tears, and though she tried feebly at first to fight them there was no stopping the torrent as they crested over her lower eyelids and slipped down her cheeks with a quiet sob. Glacier wished to marry her, bells and whistles and all. She should have seen it coming, and yet...Anais found herself completely surprised in the best possible way.
She could hardly speak as she cried her happiness, practically blinded as they were both bathed in the brilliant light of the dawn. A marriage - a wedding! It was all so much to take in at once, but there was one thing she knew with absolute certainty. She wanted to be with Glacier, she wanted their relationship solidified in whichever way would mean the most to him. And if that meant standing before his family - alongside Voltage and Gaia - and marrying this man that she loved then she wanted to do it whole-heartedly. Unable yet to speak, and not trusting her voice yet either way, Anais only nodded her head firmly in undeniable acceptance, smiling even as the tears continued to come, and pressed her tear-streaked face into Glacier's chest.

Anais would think his entire crazy scheme was for a flower and he would grin widely, through he wouldn't give the game away. At her comment on Voltage he would chuckle. He had no doubt that 'waking her up' was a polite way of voicing whatever Voltage did to push her from their den. At last, at last, he would tell her the truth of their meeting. The blaze of daylight behind him lit up the tones of her face, and brought color to the tears she cried. He moved closer, hearing her sob, and wrapped her in his paws. His beautiful Anais. He knew beyond a doubt that her tears where joy, astonishment, wonder. He whispered a soft 'thank you' to Voltage who had helped him plan this day, and of course had helped his execute it. He pulled away a step from his love to scoop up the item he had hidden behind his paw and left lying on the ground when he had moved to hug her. He slipped the soft rope into his mouth as he held it up for Anais to see. Glinting in the growing sunlight was a Quartz of vibrant yellow haloed with soft white veins. It was clearly the perfect match of gold and silver to highlight the eyes of the joining couple. The Alpha grinned through his mouthful at Anais. “I might have a little help finding your engagement present” he admitted sheepishly, certain she could connect the stone to Voltage's love of rocks. The happy little hunter buried her face into the thick fur of her mate, tears continuing to spill from her eyes no matter that she held them tightly shut. She had thought her life perfect that morning - at least before her puzzling, and unwanted, early wake up call. She had a sweet, wonderful mate that always went out of his way to shower her in affection. She had two strong daughters that were growing more and more into beautiful young women by the day. She had a family that loved her enough to let her seek her own fortune someplace without them, and she had gained a new one that cherished her because of how happy she made their brother. There was so much joy in her heart, she never would have expected to feel anymore.
But she did. Somehow he made her feel more, made her realize how much more her life with him could be, and she was grateful to him for it, that he cared enough to do this with her. She laughed through her tears, unable to stop smiling, and hastily lifted a foreleg to wipe at her face as Glacier released her from his embrace. Goodness, she needed to stop crying or she was going to cry forever. And what would the kids think! Her golden eyes blinked in her attempt to still the tears, and as her vision cleared she realized her mate was looking her way again, smiling with something dangling from his jaws.
Her attention was immediately brought to the shimmering stone as it turned at the end of the string, catching the rays of sunlight and reflecting back different shades of pale white-gold and darker golden tones. "Oh, Glacier," she whispered, unable to do anything but stare at the precious gem that he held up for her inspection. It was beautiful, so bright and full of energy, just as she saw them. She smiled, chuckled as he mentioned his brother's assistance in finding it, and in the same awestruck tone she murmured while reaching out to nose at the gem and make it shine again in the sunlight, "It's beautiful."

She loved the gift, but Glacier already knew she would. If there was one thing Voltage knew, it was his stones, and this find... it was perfect. He nuzzled the neck of his beloved, and kissed her deeply, pulling away with a chuckle. “The kids will be occupied for a little while, and im sure the three of them wont egg each other into too much trouble” he winked, knowing his brother would never really do anything that would endanger their children. Trusting Voltage was as easy as breathing, he knew like he knew his love for Anais. He turned his head towards the cliffs edge and the rising sun, it was still early morning but already there was light enough to cast feep shadows against the world behind them. “We should go for a walk, perhaps take a swim? Revel in our hard to find freedom” he teased his wife-to-be softly. “We can talk about what ever you want to happen at the wedding, who ever you want to come. Gale is getty pretty good at finding people” he pointed out. "Burn Baby Burn" |

Anais was so happy as she accepted her mate's nuzzle and kiss, glad that he let both linger before finally drawing back to look at her again. There was clear amusement within his silver eyes as he spoke of the children - she half suspected he included Voltage in that description - and his presumption that they would be kept out of any severe trouble. The golden brown wolf chuckled too as she thought of it, able to picture the trio together getting into mischief. Of course, Voltage would likely choose only the safest sort of mischief for them to get into, but Anais had to suspect he would keep up some air of danger or secrecy just to keep the girls engaged. And it would work, she had every confidence in him.
Glacier turned his head away to admire the brilliant morning light, but the little hunter only continued to stare at him, her smile softening. I'm so lucky, she thought as he went on to mention what they could do with their newly acquired free time, only half listening. Going through all this trouble, just for me. A little airy sigh slipped from her muzzle as she stepped in closer to snuggle against his broad shoulder, leaning her body against his. "I'll take that walk now that I'm awake," she answered, her tone only slightly teasing his method of getting her up and here to join him. "I'd love to have my siblings there," she added, smiling brighter and wagging her tail as she considered what their reactions would be to the happy news. "I can't wait to tell them."
