Allow Castiel to post first, before answering ^^

-::-

He trotted onto the Battlefield, pace even and graceful, tail held easily above his hips in a casual declaration of his status in his pack. He’d called his Uncle Castiel along to Witness his spar for the day, and as he scouted out a spot to hold his spar, he cast a grin to the fluffy white male. Cinder padded quickly by his side, tail held regally high, though from time to time, she had to break into a bounding run to catch up to the vibrant male’s gigantic strides. Especially massive compared to a cat.

He wanted to stretch his muscles, brush the dust off his active skills, much like his mother had, and today was a nice day to do it. It was raining lightly, on the edge of snowing, even this short distance further north, but the ground felt reasonably firm under-paw. Raids and sieges didn’t come in nice, sunny weather. Not unless you were lucky. They came when you least expected them, and weather was the least of the worries.

When he held the next fighting session, he decided as he settled on a wide area that wasn’t flat like his usual choices, he would call it at night. And the rainier the better. He sent a short howl into the air, calling for a spar from any who might be in the area, then settled to wait, paws already lightly squared under his frame, tail still casually announcing his rank, while his ears swiveled to catch any sounds of his opponent’s approach. Who knew; maybe he’d find a fighter to bring home to Celestial.

Castiel had no complaints as he trailed after his nephew and his companion. In fact the pale man felt honored that his nephew had called him along to bear witness to the spar. Perhaps, the older male thought, if no one came to entertain them then perhaps it would be he who tested his nephew’s mettle that day. The thought brought a bit of a smile to Castiel’s face. He found himself grateful that he was within Celestial, with his family, even if it had taken time to get settled back in to things and a few interactions to get comfortable.

The rain, though cold, was not cold enough yet to turn to snow. Castiel took note of it, though perhaps for a different reason than his nephew. He did not share the duties and concerns of an alpha, not necessarily, but he could understand that need to be ready. He returned Regulus’ smile, his golden eyes shining with a soft light. He sat, tail curiling around his paws as he chuckled softly. “Seems to be suitable weather for training, no?” One had to be ready at all times, during all seasons... Who knew what sort of conditions you’d be met with when trouble struck?

His ears perked and Castiel took in a slow, steadying breath. Gaze swept the battlefield as the old man stretched the muscles in his neck. What was the day going to bring? A new Celestian? Perhaps an ally? Who knew, Cas thought. He knew until it happened?

Kharnage was more than a little angry with how things had been going. Between disliking his new pack mates, hating the new guy who seemed to be getting all buddy-buddy with their mom, and then him having the gall to request that he be alpha alongside Avalon, and then the public scolding their mother had given them all at the meeting... well who wouldn't be angry? Then there was Lykos being all bossy at the meeting that he'd just been handed the heir rank to. He hadn't even come along with them originally so why did Avalon even need an heir for? It wasn't that he wanted the position, far from it really as he knew he'd suck at it, but why him? Why did anyone have to have it right now? Nothing was going to happen to their mother so it wasn't necessary. Especially since the pack had just been created.

So like most teens who wanted to get away from their parents, or in his case parent and sibling, he left. He wasn't "running away" but it was kind of funny to think about it really. Would they even notice he was gone? They probably would but he didn't care at the moment. What was she gonna do, ground him? He knew the festival was coming up, but at the moment he didn't care about that either. He was focused on him and what he wanted to do.

He wasn't sure what brought him to the battlefield. Curiosity mostly, and then the howl that rang out for a sparring partner. He didn't know how to fight, he'd never been mentored in it at all, but he was curious all the same. He didn't want to be mentored by anyone in that pack right now anyways. So far, from what he could tell, they all sucked. So why not learn something from a new wolf instead?

So he padded towards where he'd heard the howl, the light drizzle soaking into his thick pelt, and he was surprised to find that his would be opponent was bright red and as large as Lykos was. With him he noticed a cat and an older white wolf. Strange company to bring to a spar, but it didn't matter. He just hoped this red wolf didn't expect him to fight all three of them. That wouldn't be fair. Granted it wasn't going to be fair anyways.

"So, uh, I'm Kharnage." He paused, unsure of how this was supposed to work. "And I've never sparred before."

His jaws parted in a grin at his Uncle’s words and he nodded. "An-. Ba chóir go mbeadh troid maith, tá súil agam." He answered comfortably in the family tongue, heavily furred tail waving above his hips before he stilled at the sounds of approach. His ears perked forward, listening. The steps were large, though not as large as his own were. Soon enough, the monochrome form of another wolf came into clear focus through the rain, and as his fathomless sapphire eyes took in the yearling’s markings, his tail beat a quick wag through the air before settling at a level with his spine.

The kid looked remarkably like Creed, with how his black markings lined his thighs and back, but he remained silent until the yearling haltingly introduced himself as Kharnage, though no last name was given, and admitted that he’d never sparred before. Regulus’s jaws pulled into an easy smile as he switched from the family tongue to common.. “That’s alright. My first time here, I got a tiger. Luckily for me, he wasn’t a bad guy and didn’t try to continue the fight once I submitted. But I have some marks to remember him by. The Crimson male grinned and proffered his left shoulder bearing the four visible claw mark scars before settling his paw back into place and dipping his head respectfully as he introduced himself.

"I’m Regulus Anatolii Adravendi, Archangel – or alpha – of a pack called Celestial in the west. Have you been taught how to fight in general, or do you mean you’ve just never sparred against another wolf in earnest?”

It was a valid query, one whose answer would dictate the path of the proceedings. If this fellow had never been taught how to fight, Regulus had no trouble giving him a lesson. The young needed to know how to defend themselves. Upwind of the boy as he was, he hadn’t yet caught his scent, so he was under the assumption that this boy was a loner at least. Old enough to venture into the world, even if some mothers’ hearts may disagree.

Kharnage stared at the other wolf taking in his bright red pelt. He knew other wolves had an array of colors but he'd never seen a completely red wolf before. He was actually really cool looking, though he wouldn't actually say anything out loud about it. The male smiled at him and Kharnage was surprised to learn that this guy's first spar was against a tiger. Eyes widened slightly at that bit of information and his eyes eagerly looked over the scar he had left over. That was certainly a hell of a trophy to carry home.

"That's a hell of a scar. I'd be proud of it." He said with a grin. He was sure that had anyone actually fought a tiger they'd be pretty dead.

The red guy introduced himself and he couldn't help but gawk at the long name. His name sounded quite regal and by the time he'd declared that he was the Alpha of the pack Celestial in the west he wasn't even surprised. King's title for a King's name. It was quite fitting. He was beginning to question is logic about wanting to spar. This guy was an Alpha of all things. How was he going to even remotely be a formidable opponent?

"Kharnage Ancora. I'm from Ivalice in the north." He knew he'd already introduced himself, but since this guy had gone through all the trouble of stating where he was from and his last name he figured he'd offer the same courtesy. "But I've never been mentored or ever sparred anyone before. So both I guess?" Maybe he was asking so he could decide whether or not to decline a newbie or not. He wouldn't blame him if he didn't want to spar him. He wouldn't wanna spar him either. He probably sucked at it.

Regulus grinned cheerily at Kharnage’s complement. “There certainly isn’t any lack of honor in submitting to someone more skilled, or more dangerous than yourself if it’s a simple spar. It’ll keep you alive longer than throwing yourself against something that will kill you.” He nodded easily. “But if there is something truly worth fighting for, don’t back down. Whether it’s the lives of a litter of pups that can’t defend themselves, or that of an elder, or pregnant mother, defend, cherish, and protect. That is the best any us can do.”

His suspicions were clarified into reality as Kharnage reintroduced himself, revealing the surname of Ancora, as well as the fact that he was of a Pack or Group called Ivalice. He’d have to get together with Creed when he got back; the older male was more of a traveler than Regulus was, and might know more about the surrounding groups and packs. Ivalice sounded new; it wasn’t a name he recognized. However, Ancora. That name he did know. “Hey, you’re related to my Right Wing, Creed Ancora. His brother Crucible is in Celestial, as well.” The heavily furred tail waved in delight behind him. Creed was much like family to him; he’d been around for a while, and had never wavered since his arrival.

“This is Cinder, and this is my Uncle Castiel. Castiel will be the witness for our spar, but first, I’d like to give you a lesson or two in fighting, if you don’t have any objections.” His head cocked, ears perking. Teaching was one of his favorite activities to partake in. It was rewarding, and he didn’t need to be thanked to feel that he’d done a good job.

A youth came, stating his name was Karnage and that he’d never sparred before. Curiously Castiel watched him, as well as Regulus, as the two interacted. He was from Ivalice and, moments later, Regulus confirmed what Castiel had suspected. So he did know that last name! Creed, of course! The older brute kept his gaze upon the two, golden hues shifting from his nephew to the other wolf. First and foremost it seemed there was to be a lesson... Then the actual spar. He smiled to himself, letting out a soft chuckle as he spoke up.

“A pleasure, young Karnage. Best of luck to you.” He was sure the young one would do well. Even a youth could surprise an elder when they sparred for the first time. Cas wasn’t counting Karnage out of a good spar yet! Particularly if Regulus taught him some of the basics first. Never too late to learn, the pale man thought with a smile. For now he’d fall into silence again, merely an observer on this day. Though if Regulus needed his input he was more than happy to give it during the lesson.

An ear would flick towards the white wolf as he wished him luck and he'd smile nervously at the man. He still wasn't sure how he was going to do, but he supposed it was worth a shot. He'd taken Regulus' words into account about how it wasn't dishonorable to submit to someone stronger than you and he found himself agreeing. He supposed if it meat death then submitting was certainly the way to go. He'd come close to it when he was a child sick with pneumonia and he wasn't keen on meeting death face to face a second time.

After he'd reintroduced himself Regulus seemed to have a realization. He'd cock his head to the side as he mentioned him being related to his Right Wing, Creed and the male's brother. He wracked his brain to try and realize if he'd ever met the man, but he really hadn't met much of anyone. He was definitely sure he'd know it if he'd met family so he shook his head.

"It's nice to know I have family in your pack, but I don't believe I've met him before."

With the introductions out of the way Regulus seemed ready to get down to business. He smiled at both the cat, Cinder and Castiel before Regulus invited him to learn a few things before they actually sparred. On one hand he was excited to spar the larger red male, but he knew he'd get his ass handed to him if he didn't pick up on a few basics so he nodded while getting his eagerness in check.

"Sure. I need all the pointers I can get."
