On The Edge Of Reason

Beyond Understanding

Nah breathed in, her little body skinny and waning from lack of food, lack of attention. The little girl wasn't sure what had happened. One moment she was following her mother and the next... everything seemed to be a blur. Her head hurt. Her body hurt. She was hungry... and Gods was she hot! Nevermind the fact it was summer, but the large river of hot stuff was making the whole area heated. The problem? Nah didn't know how to get out. She’d searched, sure, but where was the right way? The little girl gave a soft whine. Heck, she’d deal with a peasanty stranger at this point if it meant getting out of this place!

Feeling frustrated with her predicament Nah lifted her head and stomped her front paw on the ground. This was so... So stupid! She was a princess and here she was all alone. Some good royal blood did her now, didn’t it? Tilting her head back Nah let out the loudest puppy howl she could manage. Maybe if she played the part of a damsel in distress someone might rescue her.

The western and southern lands had grown unbearably hot, though it generally didn't bother him in the least. He was a desert prince, the earth had nothing that could tear him down! And yet, he found himself stalking North to see what might be up this way. He'd always heard of snow, but never had he seen it. And it would seem he wouldn't get that chance today, either. Growling at the lack of cool weather up here too, the feline would keep on his way regardless. Long limbs carried his lithe form, and keen eyed would soon spot an opening in the ground.

Interested, he approached the opening and slipped inside. Perhaps it would be cooler in here. He had gone several yards in the darkness, though ahead a strange glow would capture the male's attention. Drawing closer, his fur began to itch as it grew warmer then was normal. What was this? Before he could further investigate, a strange sound echoed off the walls of this strange place. It sounded young...time to find out, right?

Quietly, the yearling moved forward with all the grace his lineage was bred with. Lithe frame stalked forward as his amber gaze searched out the source. On one side of him, the strange liquid that emanated the heat he was beginning to despise. On the other - aahhh, there it was. It was a child, and it looked alone. How unfortunate... "What a pitiful place to live. So lonely, no"? His African accent was strong, adding a smooth power to his voice. He stopped several feet away, long tail swishing behind him.

The stifling heat was killing him. Or, it seemed like it, at least. Even here, too. It was annoying, but there had to be a cooler place somewhere, right? That was what lead the gray hued male to the cave, and he didn't hesitate to enter the cave, walking further and deeper into the cave. The further he went, the more uncomfortable it got, and Arsenal was about to turn when the cry caught his attention. He didn't think much of it at first; in this weather, he wanted to cry, too. But, curiosity got the best of him, and despite the slight anger at himself, he padded forwards. When he found the source, he froze, unsure of what to take in first.

Deciding on the feline, and the glowing river near them, he hesitated. Squinting his eyes at the creature, he spoke, his confusion obvious. "The hell are you?" He realized, too late, that the wolf was a pup, and, well...He wasn't supposed to say that around pups, right. Clearing his throat awkwardly, he hoped that the pup's mother wasn't anywhere nearby; at least, not close enough that she could have easily traveled back and heard that.

But still. One couldn't blame him. The feline was odd, and not much smaller than him. It seemed much thinner as well, and the markings were...Well, they were unique. Waiting for an answer from the feline, he didn't offer the pup that had howled any of his attention, besides an ashamed glance in her general direction now and again.

Nah blinked as a voice called out to her. His steps had been so quiet that the girl hadn’t taken noticed of the cheetah that approached. When she looked upon him she blinked with surprise. What on earth was that? The sound of other pawsteps, more like her own, caused the child to glance over as a wolf appeared. Before she answered the question of the large cat he spat the same sort of thing she was thinking. But this wasn’t right! She hadn’t meant for two creatures to show up! Let alone one that she didn’t know what it was.

Deciding she’d take a chance with the cat Nah put on her best pouting face and spoke. “I didn’t choose to live here. I fell in this place by accident and I can’t find the way out. If you could pleeeeease take me there I’d greatly appreciate it. I’m sure I can find my way home once you do.” Gosh she was laying it on thick, wasn’t she? But others liked cute things, right? Little itty bitty things like puppies. Surely one of these two might help her out? Her gaze shifted to the other wolf, and she gave a soft whine. “...and you… Don’t be mean…” Even if she thought the same thing she wasn’t going to openly admit it.
