Carry On
The man had risen early that morning, feeling frustrated that Surreal had still not yet shown signs of getting better. Currently he’d been delaying Kieryn’s training, doing his best to give her time with her mother and get better herself. But such a thing could not wait forever, he knew. Eventually she was going to need to train, whether Surreal was better or not. Castiel worried for his sister too, truthfully, but what more could he do for her right now other than make sure her little one was prepared for the future? He was no healer after all.
After padding to the den where he suspected Kie likely still was after a long night the man called softly to the child with a bark. “Come Kieryn. The time for training has come, child.” The man felt a pang in his heart upon scenting his sister. After training he was definitely going to need to come spend some time with her, Falk, and the children. "Speak" |

Kieryn had been resting peacefully in her den. She'd been sticking close by it lately to keep an eye on her parents. Ever since being born she'd barely gotten the chance to interact with him and it made her sad. Most pups would have been outside playing by now, but not her. Instead she laid inside and kept near them just in case they needed anything. She wasn't sick anymore. She'd been feeling better for a while now, but she had no urge to go enjoy the outside with her siblings.

“I thought I’d give you an option on what we started with, Kier.” Cas finally said, making his decision. “We’ve got some fighting basics to go over or we could work on your hunting skills first. Both are necessary of course but I don’t see any harm in letting you figure out which you’d rather start out with.” Cas gave a small smile to Kieryn, focusing on her again. “Though if you’re aspiring to be a healer you’ll need to speak with Kav about that one.” He chuckled.

She stared up at her uncle expectantly as he looked up at the sky. Her own gaze followed his but she couldn't quite figure out what he was looking at. Was it something only he could see? She shrugged it off and instead looked back at Castiel as he put his head down. Her ears flicked forward as he gave her options between hunting and fighting. She didn't really want to seek out Kav for healing quite yet. She wasn't even sure what she wanted to do, but she figured she wouldn't know until she gave it all a shot. "Ummmm." She said softly as she thought about it. "I guess we could start with fighting?" She figured that's what she'd like the least so maybe if she got it out of the way early she'd feel better about choosing what she wanted to learn in the future. Yeah! That sounded like a good plan. "Very well." Castiel said softly. "The first thing you'll need to know about fighting is your defenses. Stand with your shoulder's rolled forward and legs spread like so." Castiel demonstrated as he spoke. "You'll also want to tip your head and chin forward to protect your throat. Though when attacking this is harder to accomplish so try scrunching your neck and raising your hackles instead. Following me so far?"

Well this was it. Castiel launched himself into an explanation and she tried her best to keep up and pay attention. She eyed him carefully as he did his own demonstrations and she took a minute to follow along. It was hard to mimic his movements, listen to what he was saying, and watch him all at the same time but she was determined. She didn't want to disappoint anyone even though this probably wasn't anything she wanted to pursue in the future. So she spread her legs evenly apart like he'd instructed (she felt very awkward as she did so) and rolled her shoulders forward to let the skin bunch around her neck. She let her hackles raise and she even lowered her head and tucked her chin and then glanced up at him to see if she was doing it right. She nodded at his question. She felt stuff, uneasy, and overall worried that she was doing it all wrong. Was this really how wolves fought? This was so ... weird.
