Roots - Or a lack thereof

There was an aimlessness to her wandering. She'd managed yet again to shake her irksome little shadow for the time being, though it was only a matter of time before Velia caught up once again. Mara didn't have any particular destination in mind at the moment, just away. Away from that bothersome wolf, and in her ideal world towards some peace and quiet.
Wandering the chilly landscape, it was clear that spring was arriving despite the permanent nip of cold that seemed to stay in the air around here. Things were growing, plants breaking up through patches of snow that may as well have been as a part of the hills and mountains as the rocks and dirt that composed the earth beneath it. She didn't much care for the cold of winter. Or the growth of spring. Heck, all the damn seasons had irritating downsides. Such was life she supposed, continuing on her quest for a spot to finally take a rest from her great escape.
Once amber eyes found the massive leaning trees up ahead she knew she'd discovered the perfect place for a good nap. With a sudden burst of uncharacteristic excitement - of course only due to the prospect of a nap, for there was little else to be excited about according to Mara - she surged forward, entering the trees and surveying her surroundings with her desire for rest driving the search for a good spot to lie down. Golden light filtered down through the canopy above, drawing her attention skyward, leading the wolf to notice how easy it might be to climb her way upwards, which of course was what she then began to do.
In no time at all the woman was cursing herself for attempting this, for though the climbing itself was fairly easy, she had to really plot out her path and go slowly; one paw at a time with half-tail outstretched for balance, in order to make her way up to the branch she intended to flop down on for a nice elevated nap. Her worry was less about falling while sleeping so much as having to pick her way back down from this spot afterwards. A few times she stumbled slightly and began cursing at the top her lungs. Cursing herself, Velia, the tree, this dumb idea, and everything in between until she finally reached the spot and flopped down with a dramatically heavy sigh, eyes sliding shut almost immediately.
