He laid on his stomach, eyes wide as he watched the small peeping chicks scurry in and out of their nest. He had found the quail nest some time ago but he had no concept of how rare it was to see baby quails this late into the year. The hen herded her chicks before they strayed too far from the den but kept a wary eye on the fluffy wolf cub that had taken an interest in her children. He had been coming to the nest for some time, with the intention of watching them, and learning from them, and was interested in one chick in particular.
He settled in further as a fairly hoarse cry came from the nest, and a single, stumbling form limped from the mouth of the underground den the quail hen had dug. This is what he had come for. Although he was too young to grasp the concept, because the eggs had been laid so late they had a greater potential to be born malformed, and while most of the chicks had avoided this fate, one chick hadn’t. The toes of one leg had fused together making it almost impossible for it to walk properly and causing it to limp noticeably when it walked. The chick stumbled toward its mother with it’s hoarse cry, but the mother refused to go near it, it’s siblings however, did. The other baby chicks surrounded their malformed brother and began to peck at its head incessantly. The deformed chick, crying for help began so limp away from the mob but the mob only followed.
As young as he was, what he was witnessing hadn’t escaped him; The chick was weak, and would only make their survival harder, it was a threat to them because it would hold them back, and no doubt, it would die on its own anyway. The chick limped further and further away until it had come too close to the slate wolf for the others to follow. The baby bird settled between his paws and shivered, the thin and patchy feathers on its head ripped to shreds by small sharp beaks. He felt a strange mix of empathy and disgust for the creature, and realized that because of its disability it had no place in the world. The world was meant for the strong and pure and the weak were a scourge, only entitled to a swift and merciful death. His eyes narrowed before his jaws snapped closed around the small bird, and crushed its frail bones. He chewed and swallowed while the other chicks watched. Almost as though they were satisfied by the outcome, they dispersed and resumed playing with one another.
Abridged details: Tyranis finds a quail nest with a deformed chick, the chick is attacked by its healthier siblings until Tyranis kills it.

He narrowed his eyes as he watched her, seething for a reason he couldn’t quite place and cleared his throat to get her attention. He felt that same disgust he had felt for the quail but minus the empathy. He didn’t feel sorry for his sisters one bit because in his mind none of them cared for him, and if they acted in a way that would suggest otherwise they were only pretending, the same way he had pretended for Bass and Pyrrhus

He didn’t want to admit that catching a groundhog at such a young age was impressive, especially not since it was her that had caught it. “Besides, I already caught a deer All. By. My. Self" by myself.” He said proudly, raising his head. He had seen a deer carcass on his way to the quails nest, and he supposed that would serve as proof that he had in fact caught and killed a deer. He wanted to hurt his sister in some way, make her feel bad because she was, as far as he was concerned, weak.

In truth he knew precious little about the thicket and had only been there a few times before. Getting to the thicket had proven to be difficult with the rapids cutting through the pack’s territory, but a downed tree splayed over the rapids, had proven to be useful now that the river had receded. That said, the tree was rapidly decaying and the brisk showers of early autumn meant that reaching the thicket wouldn’t be so easy.
“Go play with your groundhog” He said with the same proud abrasiveness he had shown her before. Some small part of him admitted she wasn’t as bad as Derecho or Aella, but she still displayed what he considered to be the characteristic selfishness that he had, even in his precious youth, come to loathe.

His ears perked at that. He rose and turned, glaring heatedly t her back. “Pft! Yeah right!” He said indignantly. “Like you would ever find something cool!” He puffed proudly, raising his head defiantly. He watched her walk on for a moment then leapt and landed gracelessly from the rock to chase after her. Now he needed to see whatever she deemed cool and properly derogate it. It didn’t matter if what she showed him really was cool or not, he wanted to make her feel like she was uncool just because she was his sister and he had concluded, even in his short life, that his sisters were the least cool thing to ever exist and that they were in fact, the worst.
He caught up to her and looked down at her with what had become a cruel and judgmental stare. “I bet you don't even know what cool is!" He sneered, his lip rising to show his needle sharp teeth. Of course he knew it wouldn’t be, nothing was cooler than the quail he had just seen, that was for sure…Then again, if it did turn out to actually be cool, he would have to show up later and examine it and see what he could learn from it, if he could learn anything at all. As long as Corentine didn’t see him do it.

Ty’s mouth hung open as he watched the birds. They were magnificent, gigantic creatures tearing into the carcass with hooked beaks. He continued to wade through the grass long after his sister had stopped, his eyes practically bulging out of their sockets as he approached the behemoths. He crouched down, watching them intently, learning all he could. These weren’t quails, these were beasts they stank of death and bird lice and their beaks clicked furiously as they snapped at each other's unprotected heads. Simply magnificent. One of the buzzards raised it's meaty and blood caked head, its beady black eyes focusing on the pup that it deemed too close before it raised its wings and charged with a throaty shriek. Tyranis gave a terrified squeal and ran from the attacking bird as fast as he could, satisfying the bird before it returned to its feast
Ty continued to run, quickly closing the gap between himself and his sister. As he drew closer, cautioned a glance over his shoulder to see if he was still being pursued. At first, he only saw the congress of buzzards a safe distance away but his line of sight quickly tilted as he tripped over his large paws and landed ass over tea kettle before falling onto his back with a loud “wuff” as the air was forced from his lungs. He could see his sister’s paws from his place on the ground but not much else and could already feel his face flushing with embarrassment.
