She was at it again, doing her best to prove her worth and get herself out of this ditch she was in. It was no one's fault, but her own. She was tracking prey movements prepping to get a pack hunt together before winter was upon them. She was keeping track of larger prey because she was hoping that enough pack members would come to the hunt that they could take down a significant prey animal that could feed us. She had been hunting small animals left and right leaving them by the communal dens for anyone who was hungry. Doing her best to do her job and she would continue to do so. Today she was tracking some trails after she had caught some rabbits this morning.

The trail had started deep within the plains and it was fairly recent so the young hunter fallowed it, tracking the small herd into the Moor. She was being careful though, knowing darn well the larger deer species were in rut and getting close to a bull or buck in rut was vary dangerous. and she was making sure not to cross paths with either of them.

Regulus Anatolii Adravendi

He’d been paying close attention to ‘Pella’s activity, and he approved. It rankled a bit that it had taken what it did to get her truly motivated, but you worked with what you got. He was careful in his movements, choosing the softest peat to set his paws upon, and he was tracking her, using the cover of the fog to both dampen sound and scent, as well as his bright red, large form.

He was well behind, too far to see her, and certainly too far for her to see him. But what he was doing was an important part of keeping an eye on his pack members. Watching without making himself seen, he could ascertain their behavior when they thought they were alone. She wasn’t slacking, certainly since she was tracking deer, which possibly meant she was trying to work out a strategy for a pack hunt.

When he felt that he’d garnered enough of her intentions, he ghosted forward, still on silent paws, utilizing the soft ground. Autumn had brought cool weather and rain, and the fog helped keep things damp and cool. So, he wouldn’t be in the least surprised if he startled her slightly when he came up beside her, nodding.

“How are they looking?” He inquired, voice low and quiet as he studied the tracks and scents ahead of her.

She moved quietly, pausing now and then to listen to be sure there was no buck nearby. Since returning and getting back into gear the young hunter found that this part of pack territory had some vary interesting finds. It was full of prey, but they were like a hidden treasure. This must not have been touched by loners often and it seemed like it was a fantastic find. Regulus had made a great decision here. It seemed the creatures found this damper place to be a safe haven and it even seemed that the bucks here were much bigger and thrived better. Despite the lack of sunshine it seemed the creatures here didn't mind it at all.

She was focused trying to find the best spots for the pack hunt. She was thinking the Moore would be their best shot and with the damp territory it would be easier to hide their scent from prey. She was sure it would be a great hunt area. Her only problem would be how to avoid the rutting bucks. They would be tailing the does like crazy, so would it be best to pick another large game animal? Nothing was more common then the whitetailed deer so what else do they hunt? It was a conflicting decision.

Being so focused on her task she hadn't heard his approach, nor did she jump as he spoke. She had to admit though it did prickle her fur a bit since she wasn't expecting it, but she had to remain quiet.

"Good, but the Buck are hot in rut. It's gonna be difficult to get a proper hunt going without the worry of trouble," she replied quietly. "In fact it seems the buck here are a lot bigger then on the plains."

He listened to her quiet report, nodding. “If we wait and watch patiently, there might be a pair of bucks who get locked together by the antlers and can’t get free. Those’ll make for easier kills, and we’d have two to store up…” His eyes scanned the surroundings, then dropped to the deer path.

“There should also be a few injured bucks, or older ones that won’t be as swift to escape. And older does…” He slipped forward to breathe in the scent of a pile of droppings, analyzing the scent of the creature that had left it. A healthy buck, ripe with testosterone. “If it really comes down to it, and they’re too troublesome, we can wait until they drop the antlers, and hold a hunt then. It’ll be winter, but they’ll be less dangerous without their antlers.”

He flicked his eyes to hers and grinned lightly. “Let’s do some more tracking, see what the herds look like up close. Maybe we can find a few injured ones. Or even get lucky.”

His idea made her nod, he was right. It didn't always happen, but there was always a chance to find bucks locked together. She remembered in her travels, long before she first joined Celestial, she had stumbled upon a cleaned carcass of two bucks that had been locked together. Since it was so clean it was hard to tell if they had died of exhaustion from trying to get apart or if it was from being easy kill targets. As he continued she again nodded in agreement. There was also chance or older or injured deer which also made for easier targets.

She knew a pack hunt was needed because there was no telling how this winter would be. If they had a rough winter and didn't hunt there would be possibility of further deaths in the pack. She did not want to be responsible for the death of another in the pack and she feared not being able to get a hunt in. Then Regulus spoke again making her perk up and some relief come to her worrying mind. Why hadn't she thought of that? True it would be winter, but without those horns the buck would be a lot easier to take down. She must have been so focused on the current that the important facts slipped her mind.

She smiled then before dropping her head to take in more scents. This was the trail of a buck, but she hoped it would cross with a doe. Her tail gently wagged at his offer and she grinned at him before tracking on. She fallowed the buck's trail for a few more yards before a hot doe trail intersected it, heading towards their right. She shifted right, the bucks trail doing the same. Moving along the trail her ears perked as the clashing of antlers rang out not far ahead, another buck must of showed up. He wanted to see the herd more closer up so she continued on, moving more quieter.

Soon up ahead she could see the brown pelts of the two buck and her eyes looked around for some cover. She was interested to see if any does were watching the fight. She moved towards the cover of brush and slipping into it looking around. Sure enough there was two or three doe nearby the fight, watching the two males battle it out. She wondered if they should watch the battle for the outcome, maybe the boys would get locked together? Both had vary nice spreads, big enough that they had a better chance for a lock. Looking back to Regulus she grinned, getting excited for a hunt now.

"Shall we watch and see?" she whispered.

He moved in silence with his cousin, following the scents and listing them in the back of his mind. He lowered himself to his belly in a Sphynx position, nodding silently as she gave her suggestion. “Perhaps we’ll have some luck with these two.”

He watched on with fathomless eyes as the two bucks fought it out, keen eyes taking in the scene calmly. And then it happened, as the larger of the two twisted away as the other lunged forward. A sharp tine of the buck’s antlers caught the other in the shoulder.

A growling grunt of pain and fury escaped the injured buck and he twisted back to clash again with his opponent, but came at him wrong. The racks locked together and the two bucks struggled to both harm and escape eachother, but to no avail.

The Archangel sat up, watching closely. He waited until he was certain they’d locked together well and truly, then smiled down at his cousin. “Lucky, indeed. And a good lesson on knowing when to back down in a fight and admit defeat. You never know what can happen when you give in to blind rage.” He rose, tail flicking as he stretched.

“If you’d like to take advantage of this, I’ll take the larger one, and try to get the legs out of commission if you try the same for the other. Be careful. Even locked, they can still kick… Or we could wait for them to tire.”

She nodded in return to his words before quietly settling to watch the two bucks. She watched the fight with bright eyes, going from one buck to the next buck. Clashing together and wrestling to see who was the strongest and had the right to breed. It only made her excitement grow and fuel more towards her fire to hunt. One Buck struck the other and she quietly licked her lips. The thought of being able to bring down one, maybe both large bucks made her on edge. They were such powerful creatures filled with muscle and testosterone. She was appreciative of them for their sacrifice

Then they were locked and her nails dug into the earth in anticipation. They struggled and were unable to break free from one another giving both her and Regulus great opportunity, though should they wait till they tired. Once they tired and relaxed they may able to figure out how to unlock which would mean their chance of getting both would slip away, though if they tired because her and Regulus are added to the mix they wouldn't have time to focus on themselves anymore. She was quick on her feet and felt that the hooves wouldn't be much of a problem. She looked up to Regulus as he spoke and smiled in return noting that yes this was a great lesson to learn.

It is a great lesson to learn for fighters, you have to keep a level head and not give into blind rage, when you do you will make mistakes that could be a great cost to you. Regulus then spoke about taking out the legs, making them unable to use and she nodded. He did offer to wait till they tired, but she felt they should take their opportunity now. He would take the bigger one, which was fitting since he was so large.

"I think we should take them now, they will tire quicker with added adrenaline of trying to protect themselves. If we go for the femoral arteries in the back legs that will also be an easier way, just have to watch that other hoof." she said with a nod.

She waited till he was ready before both of them took off, her aim towards the smaller one as she snuck up towards his right rear side. Careful she dashed forward swiftly and biting into the main ligament of it's right rear leg. Hopping back as the buck kicked. Then rushed forward again biting the shame spot, wanting to sever the ligament to render that leg useless. She had to do this at least two more times, avoiding the sharp hooves, before the ligament was successfully severed. The deer bleated out though was balancing his weight on his other three legs.

Dashing back and making a wide loop around to the deer's left rear leg to do the same process. It took a lot less longer since he was trying to balance himself on three legs. Once that ligament was severed his back end went down and he bleated out as he did so. She then waited till Regulus had his out of commission before going for the jugular of her target to end it's life. Snapping her jaws around it's neck and ripping her way into it's flesh with her teeth before she punctured the jugular, locking her jaws as the animal began to bleed out and waited until she felt it's body go limp.
