She didn’t know how long Vela planned on keeping them here, at Firefly lake, but Lyrae wasn’t in any rush. She had all of her life to see the world, to walk it at her sister's side, and experience its wonders together. In the meantime, she enjoyed late nights beside the water, the fireflies dancing above her head, free and wild and wonderous. Sometimes when she remained very still, they would get curious and flutter close to her. One almost landed on her nose, before her excitement gave her away and it fluttered away again.

It was a magical, beautiful place, this lake. It was vastly different from their island world, yet somehow reminded her so much of home, with its many wonders to explore.
The lake itself wasn’t something she had explored much, but with summer in full bloom around them, the light in the evenings lasted longer, and the heat that rolled off the water remained even as dusk descended fully upon them. She nudged a paw experimentally in the water, assuring herself that it really did feel sun-warmed still.

She still shivered as she sunk fully into the water, but her young enthusiasm had her grinning in no time. She was at home in the water, having lift near a beach her whole life. She drifted slowly across the lazy surface, carrying herself further into its depths, when she felt something slimy brush against her paw. She yelped in surprise, and her paddling became more erratic. She felt it again, brushing against her. She was pretty deep in the water now, and couldn’t see anything below the dark waters. She splashed and flailed as she turned around, trying to head quickly back to shore. Her young imagination already conquering up the idea of terrible creatures in its depths that wanted to eat her!
