Sticking together

She'd been a little bit behind some of her family, busy exploring the surrounding lands for herbs and what prey was available. She also tended to get a little caught up with the local residents, having an insatiable desire to make friends and get to know everyone on a personal level. It was pretty time-consuming, but at last, Honeyberry found herself at the borders of Kesali. Familiar scents marked the borders, and she smiled to herself. It would be good to see her siblings, cousins, and other extended family once more. She wondered how many had already settled here before her own arrival. Her striped paws were itching to cross into the claimed territory, but even though it was family, she wanted to make herself known so she didn't take anyone off guard.
The gray-coated fae tilted back her head, closing her sapphire orbs as she let out a friendly call to announce her presence and request someone to meet her and guide her in to Kesali. Seating herself, Honeyberry waited, her dark tail wrapping around her paws as she stared through the willows' long tendril-like branches. Her curiosity grew as her trained eyes spotted small plants growing amongst the roots of the trees and at the edges of the small streams that trickled through the woods here and there. Oh, she just couldn't wait to make her way in!

It wasn't long before a dark figure came into view. Honeyberry held her breath a moment, her excitement building as she tried to determine from a distance exactly who it was. As Branch came closer, a small squeak escape her and she bounded forward to meet him. "Branch!" she called her brother's name with unbridled joy, "It's been too long! How have you been?" Considering how tightly their family was bonded, spending a few seasons scattered from her close relatives had seemed very strange and lonely. She returned his gesture of greeting, touching her nose to his shoulder softly, her tail swishing. Then she stepped back and looked at him, her expression brimming with elation for their reunion.
"I'm so proud of you for making this pack come together," she said, knowing it must have taken him a great amount of work to bring the scattered siblings and relatives back together. She hoped she hadn't missed anything significant, hoping she'd arrived in Kesali early enough to see it grow and thrive. Though she was itching to go explore again and see who else was here, she patiently waited to hear what Branch would say.

“I have been great!” He replied with a wide grin and his tail wagging. “It looks like you seem to be doing well.”
She looked healthy and older then he had last seen her. Of course she could say the same for them. They were long past the time to run around as free spirited pups. Right now he was at the age were he should have found a mate and had pups himself, but he had been far to busy to worry about such things. He had many years left to live and he wanted to get his pack up and running before he added a mate and pups to the list (if a suiter came along that is).
Her words would only make him feel so much better as she expressed her pride in his work. He was always over the moon when one of his family would be proud of him because he always wanted them to be proud of him.
“Thank you,” he said in return. “Would you like me to show you around?”
