After the pack hunt, Rhea had been going out of her way to try and practice honing her hunting skills more. Sometimes that was trying to catch more prey in a day than the might normally, so that she could deliver it to where others could eat the extra. Other days she would try to practice tracking prey, and avoid taking the easy path when she stumbled on something she hadn't scented. It wasn't really easy work when she didn't have much help, but Rhea wasn't discouraged. Becoming more useful to the pack and working harder was preferable to feeling useless.

This morning she was tracking some young deer across the plains. The scent wasn't terribly fresh, nor was it stale. Perfect for actually getting good practice in. Sometimes she'd wander off the trail or get confused by the animal's repeated changes of direction, but she'd remain patient through all the twists and turns as the sun began to rise over the horizon and she shook out her pelt. Her winter coat was growing in nicely, thick and soft and perfect for braving the elements that were sure to come soon.

She had been catching more than just Allegro’s scent on the fresh kill in the catch pile. A yearling she knew the name of, but knew little about had been doing a good job of leaving catching prey the last few days. It was always good to see the wolves in Abaven stepping up and contributing, especially with winter around the corner. She needed more wolves she could rely on to contribute towards Abaven.

When she caught the scent of the girl, she veered from her course and begun to head in that direction, she caught her following a scent through Abaven, and kept herself quiet as she crept up towards the girl. She wouldn’t cross the path of her scents, and nor would she do anything to startle what she was hunting. She did however put herself in plain sight so the girl could see her. She gave her tail a friendly wag as she approached. She was thinking of what the pack needed. Things like promoting the wolves the stepped up. Today seemed a good day to get to know this woman better. “Want some company on your hunt?’ Shaye asked quietly.

Keeping such complete focus on the task at hand was difficult for the curious young woman, but she kept thinking about how proud her family might be of her and how she could help them and the pack if she got really good at this. Every time she got excited about the prospect of becoming successful and providing for others she'd continue following the scent with renewed vigor.

Hearing Shaye's voice was unexpected, but she'd caught sight of the dark furred woman before Shaye spoke so she didn't jump out of her skin like a fool for this particular interaction. Turning with a warm smile that crinkled the skin around her emerald eyes, Rhea nodded enthusiastically, her posture betraying that she was still a pinch nervous despite her excitement at the prospect of a hunting partner. Usually Rhea was too shy to ask someone to go with if she couldn't catch one of her siblings before they went off to do their own things. "Yeah, I'd love that! I think I'm still a ways away from catching up to them, I'm not sure how long it'll take to find them... These deer sure went for every blade of grass that looked nice," she mused, chattering on for a moment to release some of the tension she felt. Despite the girl's quieter nature she did want to get to know Shaye, so she'd just have to get past the initial jitters.

"The bucks smell muskier than the does, right?" she murmured as she moved to continue trailing the scent while making an opening for Shaye to walk next to her if the woman wanted to. "I smell... I think some young deer. One of them smells like a buck. It might be nice to have the antlers for things."
