Corvus had recently been assigned to him, and as his new mentor Ace would do everything he could to teach the young male everything he knew. He didn't yet know Corvus' abilities or knowledge, but he aimed to find out and train him accordingly. Actaea and Ignis were getting plenty of training, but he wasn't so sure about the others. Today, he would spend one on one time with his new apprentice and get to know him. He figured it would be best to do that first so he could figure out what sort of approach to take with future training. Today, they would do a border patrol, though he figured that Corvus had done plenty of those in the past (he wasn't sure) so not only would they be doing that, but he would also try to turn it into a lesson at some point today if there was a good opportunity to do so.

Ace made his way to the Western side of the Rapids closest to the volcano, and from there they could go counterclockwise. The northern and eastern side of the Rapids weren't much of a concern to him considering it was flanked by the other two territories, so his main concern remained with the sides that were left open to the rest of the world. Once he got to where he wanted to be, he called for his apprentice to join him.

Corvus was admittedly a bit unsure what having a mentor meant for him. Well, he knew what the word itself meant and what Acere was supposed to be teaching him - about fighting and patrolling and things like that. Corvus wasn't completely sure what he could teach him that he didn't already know, or couldn't figure out on his own; humility wasn't the yearling's defining trait, and to say he was wary of anyone who hadn't been in Abaven since his birth would be an understatement. Trying to stifle a soft sigh - wishing his cousin or even his sister was able to tag along for this training session - he headed toward Acere's call when he heard it.

He walked at a almostbrisk pace, not wanting to hurry but also not wanting to seem neglectful of his duties. Acere's call came from a part of the territory he went less frequently than the others, the western edge that bordered Mount Volkan. He'd never visited it, and didn't really plan to, either. The air shifted in that direction, smelling faintly of ash and fire, and he decided it best to stay away from something potentially so dangerous. The edge of the rapids seemed like a fairly safe zone, though, so he headed to find Ace - and once he did, he greeted him with a slow nod.  "What're we up to out here?" Corvus called out plainly, curiosity shining in his sea-green eyes as his attention fixed on Acere. He shook his head to straighten out his bandana and let it fall back into its usual pace, a bit disheveled from his trot over his way.

He sat and waited for Corvus to arrive. Though he didn't particularly mind waiting. He stared off in the direction of the volcano, memories of his brother...of Ruina...of everything that had been there for a short time flashing through his mind. He wasn't sure why his heart still ached for that. Though if he had to pinpoint the real reason, it would more than likely be the bond that he and Elias once shared. The bond that Ace thought could never be severed...until he severed it himself. Then he thought about the pack he knew that stood out there. His nephew's pack. The one that he was sure followed in Elias' tracks. He knew Ty well enough to know that the boy practically idolized his father, and he could only imagine the trouble that he could or would cause for his own selfish desires. He thought then, that he was glad he had been able to save Ignis and Actaea from such a fate. Had Ty gotten to them first, there was no telling what kind of wolves they would have turned out to be.

Before he could think more about it all, Corvus' voice distracted him. He caught the boys nod and so he returned one of his own. He thought about an answer, not wanting to disappoint him or fail him as a mentor. He didn't know anything about Corvus, and so he was at a disadvantage with that. With Actaea and Ignis, it was easy to plan a training lesson based on what he knew they liked, and he'd often incorporate their interests with his lessons to make it easier to learn. He had his ways of making the lesson stick, but now? He would have to test the waters and figure it out. "I thought we might do a quick patrol together on this side of the territory. I'm not sure if you're aware or not, but there have been some crucial changes on this side of the land." Especially one important change that needs to be monitored... He thought bitterly. Though he wished he could trust the other part of those that were his family, he couldn't. Not after declaring Elias an enemy, and in doing so, Ty had become a potential enemy as well. That aside, his other goal was to try and learn more about Corvus. He didn't want to just be a mentor, but perhaps a friend...or someone that the boy could trust...eventually.

The outskirts of the pack territory held no real significance for Corvus, at least not like they did for Acere. He had spent most of his life within the confines of Abaven's territories, and though he'd been trying to explore the lands beyond.. well, he had still lived a relatively sheltered life. His gaze was briefly cast to the massive volcano in the distance, examining it for a moment before his attention settled on Acere. Perhaps unlike Acere, his thoughts were more practical as he made the journey to meet his mentor. He didn't know much about the older man - he was nearly the same age as his parents - but he knew he had the drive to learn and hopefully Acere proved a valuable mentor.

He answered his question quickly, and Corvus nodded in understanding. "Sounds good," he replied with a faint smile. He wasn't totally aware what he might by changes on this edge of the territory, and he cast a curious look across the horizon and toward Mount Volkan.  "What kind of changes do you mean?" Corvus took a few long strides away from where he'd paused, happy to move and talk if that was what Acere wished to do. He sniffed at the air, tasting the scents that the wind carried to him.
