As the match before concluded, the maimed loser was rushed from the ring and a trio of coydogs quickly scrubbed the blood from the circle and laid a new layer of sand over it for fresh footing. Only three contestants remained waiting for their first fight, and he made a show of looking them over before selecting Kai and Caelestis. "You'll be in the next round!" he assured the remaining wolf before leading the other two over to the ring. "Our last match of the first round!" he exclaimed loudly to the spectators. "And what an exciting round it has been so far! Remember," he added to the fighters, "Stay in the ring! Loser goes home with some scars to remind them of their failure." He grinned sharkishly, then gave a sharp nod to Kai to indicate he should get them started.

Kai had been too excited about the upcoming fights to really get a good look at the wolves around him. Only when he was directed toward the circle to fight did he realize that he actually knew his opponent. "Oh - hey there," he said as he he flashed her a cheeky smile, moving to stand his ground as he greeted her.  "Fancy seeing you here, beautiful." Hopefully her mood was better today than it had been the day they'd met, though even then he'd seemed to find a slight way to break through her exceedingly stubborn demeanor. Even if she wasn't happy to see him today, he sure was, and he faced her with a glee that perhaps wasn't exactly appropriate.. given the circumstances. Despite the high stakes of the fight that was about to unfold, Kai was ready to see if he stood a chance against the competitors here. Sure, he had little to no fight experience, but he came from a long line of fierce hunters and explorers, and he knew he could fight as well as any trained wolf. Well, that's what he thought. His grin widened slightly as he lowered his head, lips parting over his tusks. Briefly he wondered if they might surprise Caelestis, since he hadn't had them the first time they'd met - but the thought was short-lived as he scoped out his opponent. Well, she was certainly more prepared than he was, adorned with a leather collar and bracers that had been fastened with small blades. Oh shit, those things looked painful. Either way, despite being at a disadvantage Kai wasn't one to let anything stand in his way. Nah, he could totally kick her ass anyway. Letting his tongue snake over his teeth, he only hesitated for a moment longer before lunging straight at her. Kai's fighting style was straight to the point, without any frills. He hoped he could overpower her with sheer strength, obviously avoiding those bracers of hers in the process. Immediately he made to collide with her chest, hoping his tusks would hit the muscles on both sides of chest and that the sudden impact might catch her off guard. A low, excited growl slipped from his throat as slammed into her, parted jaws aiming to grab hold of any area of her upper chest that he could manage - since her neck was clearly well-protected. Striding onto the scene with a number of other wolves summoned by the mysterious small canines, Caelestis could feel the excitement buzzing through every fiber of her being as she paced through the crowd. She had some new friends tagging along with her, the civet carefully perched snoozing on her back while the small bird circled overhead. Oh yeah, and she was pretty proud of the armor she was sporting. When she'd heard there would be fighting she just knew it was the perfect chance to test it out!

When the coydogs separated them into groups and started pairing wolves off Cael bounced gently in place, causing her little civet friend to growl irritably at the unexpected motion. Cael ignored it, leaping higher into the air and letting out a whoop as she was selected along with someone else. It was only when they were facing off that Cael realized who it was. Oh. Whatever, she could take him and that was pretty much all that mattered. "You ready to lose?" she asked haughtily, her remark only barely recognizable as a joke. He was chosen to go first and Cael smirked back as she prepared for his attack.

Dropping into a crouch, hackles up, lips pulled into a snarl and ears laid back, she watched as Kai sized her up briefly before charging forward in a clean and straightforward attack. Pft. Alright, let's do this! She leapt forward to meet him, trying to match his momentum when they crashed together, chest to chest, and Cael felt some of the air rush from her lungs on impact. That was gonna be a bit of a bruise, but at least she wasn't going to get knocked out of the circle first thing.

As they hit each other, Cael's front limbs would seek to snake upwards, hoping to get into a position where she could draw them down over his shoulders and slice through them with the little blades attached to her bracers. Meanwhile her jaws would part as she felt his teeth digging into her chest and she sought to bite the right side of his face just between his right eye and right ear with every intention of leaving a nasty scar behind.

The rather lackadaisical way Caelestis greeted him only fueled his eager excitement, his lips twitching in a smirk as she moved to face him, looking as though she couldn't care less about the fight that lay ahead of her. Was he ready to lose? Yeah right, he thought to himself, letting a soft chuckle fall from his lips. She was crazy if she thought he was about to lose. At least he'd put up a damn good fight, he could guarantee that much. As he charged at her he watched as her posture stiffened, ears pinning back against her skull and her body tensing for his attack. Instead of trying to avoid his attack, she met him halfway, the impact hitting him as roughly as it did her. All at once he felt the wind get knocked out of him, as though he'd run straight into a wall, and he huffed as he pushed all his weight into her. Apparently she had other plans, though, as he saw the flash of her bracers as she rose into the air and aimed to bring her paws up over his shoulder. He didn't have much time to react before he felt the sharp sting of those blades trying to tear straight into his pelt and he winced. Try to push her over any more and he was only encouraging them to keep baring into his skin, and her parting jaws that suddenly found purchase on his face elicited a low growl as pain ebbed sharply through the right side of his face. Thinking fast, he ducked low to the ground and tucked his head close to his chest and did a full side-roll, from his belly to his back and finally standing up a good few feet from her. He felt the sharp sting of where her bladed bracers had managed to dig into his coat though hopefully he avoided the worst of her attacks by getting the hell out from under her while he could. He let loose a sharp snarl, fueled by adrenaline as well as the strong desire to kick Caelestis's butt. Without hesitation he lunged for her again, hoping to use his tusks to slap her across the face and catch her off-guard, aiming to snap at one of her ears. Hopefully if he was lucky he'd get a good hold on it and leave her with proof of how much better at fighting he was than her, her armor be damned! The impact of them colliding reverberated through the air, forcing the air from her lungs for a moment. Luckily she was pretty sure that they'd both be equally bruised, rather than just her. She was kind of glad the blades on her legs weren't as sharp as they could have been, because she could kind of feel them sinking into Kai's skin a bit and she was sure it wasn't pleasant. But hey, this was a real fight. Getting hurt was the name of the game, right?

Next thing she knew he was fucking rolling away in a creative, albeit odd, maneuver to escape her clutches. Resettling her weight over her legs, she watched him get up and growled low as their eyes met. Once again she'd charge forward to meet him, managing to duck her head just low enough so that his tusk only grazed her cheek. She'd seek to throw the point of her right shoulder into the left side of his chest as they drew closer, and hissed as she felt his teeth on her right ear. Turning her head slightly to her right, she sought to bite the right side of his face near the back of his jaw in retaliation.
