After receiving aid from the woman at the plateau Amaretto had taken the next couple of days to recover. Finally she could wait no longer and she had ventured to Legion’s borders. She’d stuck to the shadows, watching and waiting for the opportune moment, and then she’d crept in. It was midday as she picked quietly through the territory in search of her brother’s scent. Amaretto has chosen the time of day carefully. It was summer and the heat was insufferable. Hopefully the pack’s inhabitants would be lounging in the shade where it was cooler and she could creep around unnoticed.
The plan was simple. Find her brother, free him if he was confined, and run as quickly as possible to the border. Honestly it wasn’t much of a plan, but it was all she had.
There was one glaring complication that she could do nothing about. The turn of her second year had come and gone while she was recovering and she was now smack dab in the middle of her first heat cycle. All she could do was hope that the summer heat would keep anyone from investigating the unusual and inescapable scent that was following her around like a lost puppy.

It was really super hot today, but Tyrian was determined to play anyway. Currently he was rolling around in the shade of the barn. He had a stick that he was pretending was a coyote. It was a vicious battle - one where the victory wasn't guaranteed. One second he was on top and the next he was on his back biting, clawing and kicking at the vile creature.
Movement out of the corner of his eye gave him pause. Tyrian tipped his head back so he could see better (the "coyote" had him pinned at that moment) and squinted through the dirt he'd kicked up. Hey, that was a woman sneaking through the bushes! She looked like she was playing hide and seek and that immediately had his undivided attention. He wanted to play too.
Tyrian kicked the stick away and ran after her. "Hey! Are you playing hide and seek? Can I play too?"

She very nearly jumped out of her skin when the boy's shout reached her ears. Her heart was beating so hard it sounded like thunder in her ears. Somehow she managed to calm herself quickly so as not to arouse suspicion. She glanced around covertly to make sure there were no adults lurking nearby and then kept walking in the hopes that the boy would take the hint and leaver her be.
"No, sweetheart, I'm just looking for a friend," she said as she continued to power walk away from him. Her eyes roved the trees, the shrubs and the many nooks and crannies in the terrain. She noted possible escape routes and casually scrutinized places that looked like they might hide a wolf or two.

Tyrian skidded to a halt after the woman brushed him off and tipped his head quizzically to the side to watch her go. His tail drooped at the rejection. She did look like she was in the middle of something important. It was a shame, really, because he was very good at hide and seek and she was missing out.
He perked at a sudden thought and then took off running after her. "Hey, wait! Maybe I can help you find your friend!" It was still kind of like hide and seek, right? He could make a game of it.
Now that he was following her he could see her tail. The brace on it immediately caught his eye. Was she hurt? He frowned and noted some of the other scabby spots on her back. It looked like she'd been in a fight. How cool was that? "Did my Auntie Rhythm take care of your tail? She's very good at stuff like that."

Although her dismay didn't show in her face, when Amaretto glanced back and saw that the boy was following her she very nearly sighed. Now she had a tail. So much for a covert mission. How did she get rid of him now? Although he was a nuisance the thought to deal with him permanently never crossed her mind. She may have been in an evil pack and the kid probably belonged to someone nasty, but she just didn't have it in her to hurt a child.
"Oh no, it's alright, dear, you just stay here. I'll find him." Perhaps that was the wrong approach. "Won't your parents be upset if they come back and you're not here?" Surely that would do it, right? No kid liked to get in trouble. "And yes, she lied absently, "Rhythm fixed my tail."
Amaretto eyed an outcropping to her left. The pup was rather young; it seemed unlikely that he could jump up there. Intent on leaving him behind, she changed course to approach it. When she did her brother's scent hit her full force in the face. Her heart leapt up in her throat. He was here! He'd been in this spot before. She was close.

Wow, she wasn't very friendly, was she? He just wanted to help! Well, okay, maybe the helping part was secondary, but he was bored and he liked hide and seek...and she didn't appear to be having much luck in finding her friend. Helping her look for her friend would give him something to do.
He frowned as she mentioned his parents, but continued to follow her. "Well, maybe my dad, but he won't be mad at me 'cause it's not my fault Zahir fell asleep, you know? If she's gonna volunteer to watch me she should be a better baby sitter."
