Cry Me A River

He knew no one except for Chrysanthe, so it was natural for Demonio to want to stay away from strangers. He was still rather hesitant about the place that he was supposed to be calling home, so the ivory man stuck to the borders, the only neutral place he could think of where he wouldn't really have to run into anyone and be forced into unwanted conversation. The large man laid beneath a tree close to the border, pale crown resting against his large paws, mismatched gaze hidden from the rest of the world beneath pale lids. Broad chest expanded and contracted with each breath taken, plume curled lazily around his haunches. He wasn't asleep, merely resting. Now a days, memories of his times with his once wife haunted him and the man found himself wanting to be alone. He couldn't bare having someone else witness him going through his pain. Demonio wasn't sure if he would ever be able to heal from the ordeal or if he would ever be able to find happiness with anyone. And he frankly wasn't too concerned anymore. He was pretty much giving up on the idea of happiness. He was resigned with his fate and okay with the fact that he might not ever find true happiness.

It hadn?t been long since she had came to join this pack. And being so she only knew just a few of the others here. It made her wonder how many were actually in the pack. She felt a bit lost, not knowing what to do. So she wondered about, learning the territory that she would come to call home. She would learn the borders, the plants, everything she could about this place. She thought about Cormalin's suggestion to work on her fighting skills.
So here she was, searching for solitude that would not be interrupted from anyone. But what would she do exactly she had no idea. Well ideas sparked up but she wasn?t too sure yet. The dark female snorted at herself before picking up her pace to an easy lope. Sky blue orbs seemed distant as she thought about her past. Had her pack been wrong or her? She hoped history would not repeat itself on her. But it probably wouldn?t. It was very unlikely she would ever find love again, and she wasn?t trying either. She couldn?t trust another male again to let them in her heart. But that would not mean she couldn?t befriend them. But could she ever fully trust anyone at all? She wasn?t sure, only time could tell right?
But the past would always haunt her, it would always be there. The borders came into view and she turned to trot along them, unknown she was heading towards a man of white till she was nearly upon him. Paws hit the ground and back paddled to not run into him. Blue eyes widened in surprise to see someone here. She stood there, mind racing. There was no doubt he would notice her. So what should she say? What rank was he? Nose twitched to pick up his scent, making sure he was indeed pack. He seemed sad for some reason, but then again who was she to say anything when she ha her own current depression to deal with. "Uh...may i join you?" What a stupid question. He probably wanted to be left alone

The day continued to stretch on without him and he was more than glad to let it go on. It wasn't like anyone needed him anyway. Chrysanthe was busy with her alpha affairs and her own personal life. He couldn't take her precious time away from her. Besides, she could come see him when she had time; there was no need to around sniveling for her attention. He was a grown man and more than capable of handling himself. He'd dealt with pain before, with loss, so this was nothing strange to the ivory man. But just because he'd dealt with it before didn't mean that it would hurt any less. He'd been a blind fool, falling for the sweet promises the fell from Desdemona's lips only to involve himself so deeply with her to result being abandoned in the end. He would never understand why the woman that had claimed to love him, his very wife had done such a thing to him. There were just some things that were never meant to be understood and perhaps this was one of them.
He was rather surprised when the sudden sound of pawsteps was practically a foot away from him, the quiet voice of a female, the pitch telling him so, called out to him, asking him if she could join him. Pale lids slowly peeled back, revealing his icy and maroon eyes, both emotionless and practically unreadable, audits rotating forward with attention as he lifted his head to get a better look at her. I don't see why not. He motioned with his muzzle to a spot beside him, allow his ivory crown to fall back onto his paws, lids falling back over his mismatched eyes, ears resting gently against his head. He didn't care if the woman accompanied him in his self-imposed solitary confinement. It didn't bother him at all.

Ears had twisted back unsure of how he might reply, she wouldn?t blame him if he would be mad or rude. It would seem he might have been seeking solitude here at the border for a reason. He turned to her, blue and maroon orbs staring at her, so blank, void of anything. But his words indicated she could join him if she wished. She watched as his head reached back to their original place. She hesitated, one paw lifted before silently walking over to settle near him. Plush tail curled around her small frame as if protecting her. She would not be aware of it, but her body gave small signals of how closed off she was to everything. The way she laid down, curled in a tight ball, blue orbs casting glancing at the white male, ears alert. But her emotions and heart were closed off. Broken to lay scattered and never to be put back together, that is if all the pieces were there.
The day those pups died by their own mother, followed by her banishment, it had broke her. She had walking away knowing a piece of her died with those pups, another in the betrayal of her mate before the birth of those pups, and more in finding her own sister turn against her followed by the rest of the pack. Even now she feared something of the same would happen here. She didn?t want to get close to anyone again to only lose them. And yet there was a small flickering light of hope within her. Hope that she could move on in life. Maybe not find another mate, but maybe someone she could care for as a friend, pack mate, a pup. "....Why, if you don?t mind me asking, are you out here alone?" She asked softly, blue eyes starring off in the distance. She couldn?t fully rest, she wasn?t capable of doing so with this pain in her heart. It ached, throbbed, and squeezed. In all that had happened she had never felt the sorrow of losing a mate, just betrayal, and anger. Perhaps if she had left her sorrow surface it would be too much for her to handle. Even still there was very few things left that she could find joy in.

This quiet, broken man, seeking to be away from everyone and anyone wasn't the real Demonio; it was the Demonio that he was now. He knew he was stronger than his depression, than this breaking that had taken ahold of him, but he just couldn't find that inner strength to break away from it. Life was pretty much pointless now. What exactly did he have to live for now that he had no family, no wife, no children? He was utterly alone in the world. He couldn't count Chrysanthe, because even though she was like a younger sister and best friend mixed into one, she wasn't around nearly enough. Then again, that was his fault, given that he didn't come around enough to visit her. But that wasn't the point. He was sure that she had own family, the gray ex-king Collision was one of her siblings. How many others did she have? Surely she already had a mate. It was hard for him to believe that such a beautiful young woman would be walking around unclaimed. She was the queen of a large thriving pack. Even if she didn't have blood family, she still had her pack family. What did he have? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. But as depressing as his life had become, there was no way he was going to take the easy way out and simply kill himself or have someone else do the deed for him. It was cowardly and Demonio sure as hell was no coward. He would just deal with this new chapter in his life. It always got worse before it got better, didn't it?
She accepted his invitation, situating herself not to far from him. The ivory man paid her no mind, allowing himself to pretend like she wasn't even there. It would've worked had she not spoke up, asking him why he was out here. Conversation...wasn't something he was really looking for at the moment, but the woman deserved at least some of attention. There was no need for her to suffer for his pain. I honestly have nothing better to do... He rumbled quietly, not turning to face her, or even letting his eyes open. He simply lied where he was, the only sign that he was conscious the moving of his pale lips as he responded to the dark woman.

Imena turned to face him, eyes narrowed. What a grump! She perked her ears at his simple reply and gave a soft grunt. Uncurling herself an stood to walk right up to him. Ears twisted back as she studied him for a moment. He need some cheering up, only she would allow herself depression but never to let others fall into it's grip. A grin lifted the corner on one side of her muzzle. She reached down to lightly nip him on the ear before head-butting him. With a snort she plopped down next to him. She wasn?t sure if she had gone to far, but she might as well continue, she'll deal with his anger. It was better than this body empty of anything jus lying here. She smiled before she laid her head across his back. " Stop being an empty shell of a wolf. As my pack mate, i now declare it is my taste to break you out of it." She muttered to him.
A job, it was something she needed, craved it. Without fully having permission near any of the packs pups yet, she was bored. She needed something to keep her mind busy. This white male provided that for her. She could easily ignore her own state, as she would for anyone. She never thought of herself first before others. It just wasn?t her, her heart was too kind to those in her pack. She would protect and care for them with all she had. And it would all start with this guy before her. Who she might add was larger and she found she had to stretch her neck out just to rest her head on his back. If one was to enter this scene they might find it comical at how she was determined to have her head there, no matter how awkward it was. "What?s your name? Before i start calling you White Grump." She added, blue eyes closing, trusting him not to turn on her.

He knew it was pathetic that he lying here, before this woman, looking every bit as pathetic as he felt. He was allowing himself to regress back into his self-loathing, into the self-hatred that Desdemona had managed to push away upon their first meeting, but the self-hatred that she now renewed with his betrayal. It was obviously his fault. It always was. One way or another it had been his fault. Had he not loved her enough? Not doted her enough? Perhaps he had just been doing everything wrong. Whatever the case was, in his mind it would always be his fault. It was his fault that his family had been annihilated, and now it was his fault that Desdemona had abandoned him. It was irrational to blame himself for something that out of his control, but he couldn't help it. Who else would be blame if he didn't blame himself? He couldn't just write it off as fate. Someway, somehow, it was his fault and that's what he would believe for the rest of his life, up until the day he died. Perhaps even after.
It seemed the woman beside him didn't like very much the vague answer he gave her since she decided to get up, the rustling of her fur as she stood alerting him to her movements. He figured that she would just walk off because his anti-social way of being irritated her, but to his surprise, the woman placed herself before him, nipping gently at one of his ears before head butting him. Ivory crown snapped back in surprise, audits flattening against his skull, mismatched gaze coming into view from snapped back lids, pale lips instinctually curling back over his pearly dentures, brows furrowing. And then the smaller woman moved beside him, attempting to lay her much smaller head across his large back, looking rather ridiculous in her attempt. Stop being an empty shell of a wolf. As my pack mate, I now declare it is my taste to break you out of it. What?s your name? Before I start calling you White Grump. And then it was her turn to allow her azure gems to fall closed, completely trusting that he wouldn't reach over and snap her neck. Lucky her, Demonio wasn't a murderer. She really needed to be careful with those that she interacted. He stared down incredulously at the little obsidian woman, brows furrowing in confusion. He hadn't seen her in Valhalla before. A new member most likely? Demonio. Yours little miss daredevil.

A chuckle vibrated through her lightly as she finally got him to come back alive and react. Good, he needed it. She wasn?t going to admit to him she thought for a moment he was going to snap at her, maybe even bite her. But non-the less, Imena was mentally prepared for such a thing. She would have to be fast, but she would rebuke him like she would a bad pup. The very thought almost had her rolling. She could feel him staring at her, probably confused or at least surprised. When he answered yet again, sounded like there was more life in it. Not as blank and empty as before. She smiled at his nickname for her. " When you have nothing else that requires your safety and need, then can take more risks knowing no one will miss you." She replied, opening one eye closest to him. "Imena Taipa, I kinda like my nickname. Though i still think your name will be White Grump till otherwise proven wrong." She grinned at him as she turned her face to him, both eyes looking at his mismatched one."But i am glade there is some life in there in you. What fun would that be, meeting the first Vahalla here after joining, and he is nothing but an empty nut shell?" She teased him softly.
Imena was always ready if she pushed someone too far, with younger wolves it was easy to rebuke them. Older wolves, she needed to be on her top game should she need to defend herself. But something told her she didn?t have to worry about Demonio. There was this quite peace around him, the ability to trust him easily waved off of him, even through that depressed emotion that she could scent it off of him. She wouldn?t question him about it, that was his business, if he wished to talk about it, she would listen with full attention. But no way would she speak of her's, she wasn?t ready to. She'd rather try to ignore her's, find much more time consuming things to do.

Who was this crazy little woman who claimed herself to be apart of Valhalla? His packmate? He had no packmates. He didn't really belong in this pack. He only came here because he was seeking refuge and there was no where else for him to go. He wasn't about to head back to Tortuga under the new rule of whoever had taken it and attempt to scrape out a living there. There was nothing left for him there, so there was no reason for him to go back. Valhalla was most likely going to be the pack that he would spend the rest of his days in, so he might as well start getting used to interacting and actually getting to know his packmates. Starting with this little woman.

Her chuckle interrupted his thoughts, audits flickering back in her direction as he allowed himself to relax, pale lips curling back over pearly dentures, nape craning around to his right to get a better look at the woman that called herself Imena Taipa. He frowned at her first set of words, finding them rather morbid, quite contradicting to the mood that she was giving off at the moment, rather confusing the ivory man. Forgive me Imena for not having greeted you properly. I just have not been feeling myself lately. But, it is very much a pleasure to meet you, my first pack mate. He offered her a gentle smile, plume wagging softly behind powerful haunches.

Blue orbs watched his every move, expression, every detail. Her own gaze was warm and inviting. She rather liked this male, he was different, and he hadnt snapped at her yet, making brownie points in her book. She was sure she had probably confused him with her words. But hey, he'll learn soon enough, maybe. She shrugged the thought off, ears twitching. She smiled back at him, eyes squinting. " I feel honored to be the first packmate you meet. I hope i havnt put any doubt in your mind about staying here." She replied.
A yawn stole her next action, jaws parting as a whine slipped out at the same time. Was she really that tired? Or was Demonio's lazyitous getting to her? "Have you been given a rank yet? I'm not too sure on what mine is. Only that the leader healer will be my mentor. I suppose i'll be the pack's Den Mother, since that what i told Cormalin thats what i was in my last pack." She added. She found his body to be rather comfortable to cuddle into, she wondered if this might make him uncomfortable. But she couldnt help it. Her body, mind, and heart missed being near others, the contact, the social life, everything. In a way Demonio was like Imena's therapy, her medicine to start healing. Who knew what else befriending this white man might do to help her in the long run. She just prayed that she could stay friends with this man beside her. In a way she was already relying on him, even if both would not realize it till much later.

She was quite the woman, being able to put herself in a bit of a risk just to cheer a complete stranger up. He admired that about her and found himself taking an instant liking to her. Although, the more time he spent with her, the more he could detect a faint trace of...depression? He wasn't sure if his assumption was right, but he could detect some sort discomfort with Imena, but he wasn't about to go rifling through her emotions and personal business to figure out what it was. If she wanted to talk about it, that was fine. If she didn't, that was fine too. She obviously wasn't going to pry about what was bothering him, so it seemed only fair to return the favor.
I feel honored to be the first packmate you meet. I hope i havnt put any doubt in your mind about staying here. Made him feel more relaxed to see her answering smile, the sadness that had begun to envelop him beginning to fade away with each passing moment. I too am honored to be the first packmate you meet Imena and no no, there is no way you could change my mind. If anything, you've only confirmed my belief about Valhalla becoming my permanent home. A soft chuckle rumbled in his chest as she yawned, apparently pretty tired. She seemed to find his back pretty comfortable to lay on. Demonio didn't mind at all. If she needed a place to lay her head, then she could by all means use his larger frame as a resting place. Didn't bother him at all. Have you been given a rank yet? I'm not too sure on what mine is. Only that the leader healer will be my mentor. I suppose i'll be the pack's Den Mother, since that what i told Cormalin thats what i was in my last pack. Rank. He hadn't even thinking about what kind of rank he would have in Valhalla, but now that she'd brought it up, it was almost immediately that he knew what he would choose if given the option. You sound like you would make a great healer and denmother. My skills though, lie elsewhere, more towards combat and protecting rather than healer. A warrior is what I would like to ideally become here, though any position I can fill to be of assistance I will gladly take.

I too am honored to be the first pack mate you meet Imena and no no, there is no way you could change my mind. If anything, you've only confirmed my belief about Valhalla becoming my permanent home. Ears flattened slightly to the side of her head as she grinned at him. She was happy he would stay. Tail thumped against the ground, showing how pleased she was. Some thing ticked in the back of her mind whispering, Did he mean more in what he said? Don?t get to close, don?t get hurt again. She nuzzled into his side happily. She was content to say the least. You sound like you would make a great healer and den mother. My skills though, lie elsewhere, more towards combat and protecting rather than healer. A warrior is what I would like to ideally become here, though any position I can fill to be of assistance I will gladly take She froze for a moment. She had not excepted to here that, that he believed she would great healer and den mother. For someone who she just met, saying that was a shock to her. She blinked at him a few times, mind battling wither he meant it, to accept to compliment, or just shrug it off. He didn?t seem to be the kind to just say something and not mean it. Her muzzle opened as if to say something and then closed again. A warrior? He did seem the kind who could fill that rule proudly and excel in it. "It..means alot that you would think i will be a good healer and den mother, a lot. A warrior? Hmm i can see that. You have that...gallant air about you. A white knight, an angel sent to punish those he protects." She replied softly. Oh, if he was a warrior at heart, could he possibly help her? "Oh..um..Cormalin said i should work on my battle tactics. He said it was important since one of the healers was attacked recently. Could..you help me? She asked, a little unsure of herself and the question. Imena had never sparred or anything, so this would all be new to her.

She was certainly on the simpler side of the gene pool, her coat just a single color, as well as her eyes. But just because she didn't have anything different about her that would make her stand out didn't mind that she was any less beautiful. To Demonio, every woman was beautiful in their own way because no two woman were ever alike. Although...to find a woman as beautiful as Desdemona, he wasn't sure that would ever be possible. Desdemona...she had been the most amazing woman he'd ever met in his life, but now that she had abandoned him, every idea he ever had about her was challanged, including the alleged love that she'd held for him. When you loved someone, you didn't just abandon them out of nowhere, did you? The ivory man would've never done to that. Not unless it was for her own good and even then he would've at least tried to explain his reason for leaving. He had been left with nothing and he needed to start accepting the fact that he would never know.
It was refreshing to see Imena smiling at him because of what he'd told her. Made him feel good, like he was making some kind of difference to her day, or at least bringing something good to it. A half smile curled his pale lips as she nuzzled into him, the white man bumping his new pack mate back with his shoulder. And then she froze, seemingly unsure of what she was going to say in response to his words. Had he said the wrong thing? Alabaster eyebrows pulled together in a slight frown, tryin to figure out how his words were aking her feel when she finally spoke up. It..means alot that you would think i will be a good healer and den mother, a lot. A warrior? Hmm i can see that. You have that...gallant air about you. Could..you help me? An angel? White knight? He had certainly never heard anything remotely close to that from anyone before. A sheepish smile curled his pale kissers. Well I meant every word I said. And I mean I've never trained anyone before, but I would be willing to give it a shot if you'd give me the chance.

She was certainly a very good natured woman, a trait that he was instantly attracted to (in a non-romantic way). It warmed his heart to know that he would be able to share his new home in Valhalla with such a good woman. Then again, he wasn't that surprised. If Chrysanthe was anything to make assumptions from, it was that Valhalla was full of very noble and good-hearted wolves and Imena was no exception to that. Surely he was seeing in this woman what Chrysanthe or any other higher ranking Valhallan had seen in her when they had first met her. He could see this little meeting between them sparking a friendship, something the white man was in very much need of. He needed more friends and surely this would be the start of many more to come. Or so he hoped. Maybe after a nap? I'm suddenly tired and too lazy to move right now. And..Demonio, thank you. Her words snapped him from his thoughts, mismatched gaze flickering back to gaze at her, a warm smile curling his pale lips, a gentle chuckle rumbling in his chest. Just give me a time and place and I'm your man. You needn't thank me Imena, if anything I should be the one who should be thanking you for lifting my spirits. I'm looking forward to sharing Valhalla with such a great pack mate.
