Chrysanthos could probably find yarrow just about anywhere, it being one of the more common herbs but he was certain to find it in Fern Gulley and he had some idea of exactly where he wanted to look. Clouds continued to spread across the sky as the air grew more humid. He kept his eyes peeled for the plant. As soon as he was done gathering he planned to clean up his den and get it lined and cleaned out for winter. Then he'd settle down for a nice long nap. Yawning, Chrys shook his head as he tried to stave off the afternoon slump. He needed to stay alert.

Walking deeper into the gulley he marveled at the vast variety of plant life around him. The area was fairly sheltered and he wondered if the plants here might last longer into winter than they would anywhere else.

Healing was going to be her lifetime task, and starting this late on life placed her in an unfavorable situation in comparison to the younger trainees. With two years old, she was late, and with such a problem, she knew she had to work harder than the rest. But would a good for nothing like her success? Would a fearful girl make it? Her fears certainly represented a huge wall between her and a world full of chances, of chances to start over. Fear and negativeness were the chains that wrapped around her heart, a broken heart which hope for society and life was made pieces. She didn't believe in others and in herself, her trust faded a long time ago, back to her pup days. But it didn't mean she wasn't going to at least try her best. And in a push of determination, she left the security of Winterfell's borders, heading south. Her goal was to take the first touch with herbology, and upon the colder north, she thought that in warmer lands there could be more chances. But there was a big problem, she didn't know anything about herbs, no names or uses. But well, she would go and see. After some time she arrived at the place, all was green and colorful. With a vast plant life, and with pinned ears she marched, taking note of the plants that there were. And of all one with a curious look took her attention. This one was Purple(Lavender). Sniffs and she could tell its scent was good but did it had a name? Her focus made her unaware of the other wolf that was there as well. "speak"

It wasn't long before he came upon the angular step of yarrow still in full flower, its top crowned with clusters of little white flowers. It would bloom into early fall and being a hardy and useful herb it was an essential took in a healers kit. Just to be sure he reached his head forward to smell the plant and was satisfied that the scent was just exactly as he remembered it would be. He reached out to gather some when he noticed a pale woman not far off was looking at some lavender. He smiled and decided he could try and make some polite conversation. "That's a pretty patch of lavender you've found there. Are you stocking up on herbs for the winter too?"

Yurei Tatsumaki "This life is filled with hurt When happiness doesn't work" Yurei's nose bathed with the flower's fragrance, and she closed her eyes in an attempt of saving it on her memory. She would need it if she was going to use it in a later opportunity. So far, her herbal adventures haven't had any trouble, and hopefully, it would stay like this until the end. But of course, it couldn't last long as a voice joined her in this pretty afternoon. Silently, she would turn her head toward the stranger, and as shy as she was she didn't know what to do. "That's a pretty patch of lavender you've found there. Are you stocking up on herbs for the winter too?" "Hi..." She greeted shyly as she placed her tail between her legs. "Is this called lavender?..." She asked, doing her best to sound less scared. Raising her head just a bit, remembering Fracture's advice. "I came to take the first contact with herbology...I am a healer apprentice..." She admitted a bit embarrassed. "But I don't know anything about herbs and its uses..." She finished, for then falling silent for now. "speak"

He realized he had made assumptions of the woman as she asked if the plant was indeed called lavender. He felt a bit sheepish at first but then she stated that she was a healer apprentice. Ah, so he hadn't assumed to far from the truth. That was good. "I could tell you a bit about lavender if you like. It is useful for calming the nerves and helping patients to sleep." He reached out his head, down toward the base of the yarrow plant as his jaws worked at the stem until he had the plant freed from the earth. He set it aside and continued to gather a few more stalks as he waited for the woman's answer. It was best to gather it in late summer but the unique climate of the gulley preserved the growing season far longer than it had elsewhere.

But no one said it would be an easy transition from being a loner to be a pack wolf this soon. And as time passed, her fear slowly started to fade but not completely. She had many questions, no one could blame her as she was totally new to this, and for her, it was what would help her to get that rank she was working for. "Oh, I don't mind at all. I've been gathering herbs on my own for awhile now so its nice to talk with a fellow healer." Chrysanthos laid out his yarrow as he decided what he wanted to do with it. He decided the best use of the yarrow would be to dry it and make a tea out of it. That would be a useful remedy for colds and with winter coming up it would be needed. He laid them out on the deer hide as he debated the best way to dry them. "Lavender is helpful with stress yes, and it is safe to give to children. I prefer to dry the herb and then soak it in warm water that the patient can drink. Hotter water works best but its hard unless you live near a hot spring or are capable of making fire."

"Alright, ill try to collect herbs too. Though ill might won't know what to do with them." She explained hoping she wasn't acting like an idiot, that would be the end of her attempts of changing her way of seeing life, she wanted to be a normal wolf, with no fear at all. But maybe it won't change completely, it may still have some influence on her, but well she wasn't going to rush it. Then, she contemplated the male as he kept with his herb gathering, and doing her best she tried to copy his moves. And using her maw, she grabbed a big portion of lavender, placing them aside, so she could now grab yarrow aswell. "Lavender is helpful with stress yes, and it is safe to give to children. Chrys smiled at the woman. "They're easiest to use fresh. If you can keep them in a cool, underground storage den they should keep for a week or so depending on the herb. Personally, with winter coming I prefer to dry them. Then when you need to use them you can mix them into a paste or tisane. "

Chrysanthos seized a rolled up piece of deer hide from inside his pack and laid it down on the ground before taking a paw and deftly unrolling it. "That's what I plan to do with the yarrow. My companion can hang them up to dry but really, laying them out on a hot stone works just as well."

He took the yarrow and laid them out on the deer hide, separating the herbs into bundles that he'd then hang to dry if he could find a good place for them. Thankfully, Bolla would be able to help with that task. He reached into his sack to pull out a bit of twine the lemur had made and she began to tie the herb bundles.

"Good questions! In cold weather if you can't manage fire it may be best to deliver the herb another way, though you can warm the water in your own mouth if you're desperate. I tend to put the water in a bowl or container of some kind. Even just making a ring of stones and laying some hide down in it can work." He'd been blessed with his crafty companion so he hadn't relied on some of these older methods in a long time.

Or are there other ways?... could I use snow? For storing the herbs? Where I live winter will come earlier." She asked wanting to learn more, and maybe she could give what she learned here to her partner, the other apprentice that was training beside her though she hasn't met him yet. Then, she spotted something strange. An item the wolf was taking a thing from, and she wondered what it was. "What's that?..." She asked in her shy voice. "That's what I plan to do with the yarrow. My companion can hang them up to dry but really, laying them out on a hot stone works just as well." She spotted a creature near him, and she would tilt her head to a side in curiosity. "Is that your companion?..." She asked, and questioned herself if she would ever have one, though who would want to be her companion? She was too stupid to be of other's like, it was just her assumption though.   Following that, with great surprise she contemplated what the male did, she was impressed with how organized he was with the herbs, how he separated them. "How do you do that?... What do you use to wrap them up?" She said before staying in silence. Finally, the wolf explained that in cold weather one could warm the water with the mouth but maybe she could learn how to do fire, she would have to ask someone for assistance thought. "And would a coconut work? But I guess splitting it in half wouldn't be easy...." She added. "Speech"

Bolla continued wrapping twine around the herb bundles until they were at last all tied neatly with a good amount of twine hanging from the knot so that the lemur could tie them up on branches. Chrys listened to Yurei's questions and pondered them for a moment. There were many questions and he was trying to decide how best a wolf who lived in a colder climate would preserve the herbs. Winters were mild where he was originally from but he really didn't know what to expect in this new land.

"Yes, I'd dry them with sun and heat. Dry, hot, territories are best for this but most will work as long as its not very humid. If you're going to freeze them… I would recommend making them into a paste or something first. The enzymes in the plants will start to decay turning them mushy and brown. I'm not sure if it will affect their healing properties but if they are already made into a paste they should be more pleasant to use." He shuddered at the idea of trying to mush up a thawed, brown plant.

"This plant? This is yarrow. There's still some left, you should get some. It's a very versatile herb. It can help with bleeding and also coughs, colds and fever." Goodness she was full of questions, but he was happy to help. He didn't want to assume too much but he wondered if Yurei didn't often get the chance to discuss herbs with other healers.

"Yes, this is my companion Bolla. She has very agile fingers so she can make twine out of plant fibers like palm fibers. Though if you can reach high enough you can probably just lay the herbs in such a way they hang from the branches." Bolla grabbed the bundles and scampered up a nearby tree where she slid out onto the branches and tied the herbs so that they were hanging upside down to dry.

Chrysanthos smiled. "Hey, that's an idea! A coconut would work splendidly and I'm sure you could find a way to crack them open. Maybe if it's dropped from high up? Hmm… or perhaps it would shatter. I'm not very familiar with coconuts."
