Trick 2019
08-24-2019, 12:27 PM (This post was last modified: 08-24-2019, 12:31 PM by Tornjak.)

Tornjak was far from being like a wolf, but even he was smart enough to recognize the scent of a pack when he smelled one…especially if said pack had taken over one of the best hunting grounds in the north. Fortunately for him, that territory bordered an almost as good hunting ground and thus, he found himself walking across the Marble Wash. The distinctively colored stones had been fun to play on when he had been a cub- of course, his brother had been with him and now…now he was gone. A fact that Tornjak would have to come to terms with at some point but for now he remained in denial. Instead, he wandered across the Wash looking for chipped off pieces of the hard marble. He was far from a superb crafter, but he was good enough to sharpen marble and slowly shape it the way he wanted.

He just had to find the right piece.

A familiar scent had crossed his path while he was patrolling the eastern edge of the Antiox. Crimsong gaze narrowed and his lip lifted in a silent snarl as the breeze threw the scent in his face. Another polar bear? He supposed it wouldn't be uncommon considering they lived in the North. He had already had to kill one for attacking Heloise, he'd be damned if he let another one get close enough to get to those who couldn't fight. The pups. Yurei. Heloise...though he knew she'd fight without question, he would not let her risk anything now that she was pregnant. Without hesitation, he slid past the borderline and sought out the source of the smell. On the way, he saw the bears tracks and he cautiously followed them. He was on his own. He knew Polar bears could be dangerous if he fought alone, but the pack was close enough he could call if he needed help and he knew they'd come.

His companions weren't with him and he was unarmed save for his own claws and teeth. Even his armor sat in the den he had on the ship since he had only planned on doing a patrol. But now...now he half wished he had brought it with him. But...he had fought bears before way before he had his battle tools. And he would do it again if need be. The scent grew stronger and he hurried his pace until he heard claws clacking against the stone in the wash. He moved until he stood at the top of the bank, gazing down to find it. It appeared...young...though he couldn't say for sure as they all more or less looked the same in size to him. "You've come to try and take revenge for your fallen kin, hm?" Of course, he was talking about the angry bear that had trespassed into pack lands not too long ago. And he assumed this bear was associated with that one.

It's a horde of hares!

In this area, the cold sets in hard and fast. Usually, many might not linger here so close to winter. However, hiding along the edges of the riverbeds are many stark white hares. They eye the two predators nervously, hoping silently that their white coats pass for a strip of marble. They gather in long stretches, pressing together for warmth where they would normally run alone. What are they hiding from? Why haven't they found a place to burrow?

It seemed the pack that had made his wonderland home did not just stay within their borders. Thus far, Tornjak had respected their marks since food was plentiful elsewhere...and they had left him be...until now. As he wandered along the marble river bed a wolf would speak, stopping him in his tracks as he looked up to find yet another mostly white wolf. This one far more pissed off than the bitch he'd met the other day. Lips twitched, the tip of his large canines briefly revealing as he looked upon the smaller predator. The words did not go unnoticed. " No." came the firm, yet gruff response. After a moment he turned and continued walking, nostrils pulling in the scent of bunny...a mere snack even for one as young as he was...but where was it?

Dark eyes searched the marble pathway, at first seeing nothing, but then, then he saw it. A flicker of movement along the white. " Be a good dog and head those snacks off." He nodded to the bunnies before he continued his ambling walk, slowly getting closer and closer to the bunnies. Of course, he had no intention of sharing.

Asmul had been puttering along the wash when the rumble of voices caught his interest. Since the encounter with Ragnheithr, he had decided to explore a bit. The Wash seemed like a good enough place to do it, as it wasn’t much warmer than Cathedral Point. Plus, as Winter set in, Asmul could handle traversing lands farther south than he was used to without the great discomfort that came with the higher temperatures.
The wind was blowing from behind Asmul, and the voices sounded like they were straight ahead. He couldn’t smell whoever was speaking, but they surely could smell him. He squinted, seeing two pale forms just ahead, camouflaged by the glittering stone. With a friendly chuff, Asmul broke into a light jog, aiming to greet these fellows. As he got closer, however, he realized that the figures were enormous— one more so than the other.
The air between them was tense, that much Asmul could gather. They were about to face off, he understood. And, to his great surprise, one of the figures was a polar bear— enormous, fluffy, and fearsome.
Asmul knew that it wasn’t his place to break tension. He knew he should not intervene on others’ personal matters, so he did not. Instead of approaching further, he slowed to a stop. The wind picked up a bit, whipping his long fur around his face, still blowing from behind him, carrying his scent towards the pair. Asmul looked to the side, and saw... hares. They were lined up peculiarly along the river bank, huddling almost single-file together. This wasn’t their usual behavior: when he was hunting, he usually saw them on their own or in burrows. So many rabbits in a line though, unmoving, made Asmul want to hunt: they were just sitting there, waiting to be picked off. Something about their odd formation, though, made him hesitate. He would watch the events before him unfold for now.

The beast before him answered with a gruff no, but Acere was acutely aware that he also might be lying. He wasn't sure if this one was related to the dead one, but just in case, he remained where he was and ready to move at the first sign of a threat. He remained standing where he was atop the marble wash, crimson gaze eyeing the bear until the wind shifted and brought him the scent of rabbit. For a brief moment he followed the bears gaze, spotting the white hares practically lining the old river bed. In all his years he had never seen hares act in such a way and immediately knew it wasn't their normal behavior. What caused them to act this way? They practically remained still, beady black eyes watching the pair. His focus had been shifted to them until the bear spoke again, causing the alabaster male to growl and lift his lips to reveal stained teeth.

"I am not a dog nor am I one who will heed the demands of a bear." He growled. The young bear was clearly being disrespectful, but perhaps that's how the species was. That's how the first bear got killed. Disrespecting pack boundaries and attacking Heloise. Perhaps this bear would meet the same fate if it continued the way it did. When the wind shifted again he caught the scent of another, but this time it was of his own species.

Crimson gaze found another wolf close by, watching and waiting it seemed. "Be careful, bears aren't to be trusted," He warned as his gaze returned to the polar bear.
