down and dirty

Aunty Io told him that he needed to talk to his brothers and convince them that they needed to make up to their dear sister. Indigo was optimistic, his tail wagging and his eyes bright as he sought out his bear pawed brother. All he had to do was convince Azure and Mortis to get along for a night, they’d surely do it for Aslatiel. As long as he asked nicely and explained himself like aunt Io said he’d be home free.
Indigo didn’t need their help to fully create the evening like he wanted to, he’d get the help of his aunt and roan to get the fire, but maybe Mort and Az would want to provide their dinner. They both seemed much more in tune with their hunting skills than he was. Maybe he could use that to more fully convince his brothers.
With an optimistic step the young boy returned to the den, ”Azure?” He asked, not having really spoken to his brother since that night. Indy didn’t want their relationship to be strained, he wanted all four of them to have a great night and to get along. He loved his siblings, and them not getting along was hurting his insides.

Asla's feast was a hard memory for Azure, and although he had no qualms about how he made Mortis feel, he couldn't help but feel the guilt of hurting his sister and younger brother. They'd all walked away from him then, first Mortis, Indigo following, then finally Asla who's pain he felt like a slap. He didn't want his siblings to hate him. Would the only option be to fake niceness towards his winged sibling for the rest of his life? Azure hated the very thought. Indigo's voice broke through his train of thought, blue rimmed ears perking at the sound of his beloved brother. His excitement to be in Indy's presence was without thinking and as natural as instinct... and did not last long as he remembered how they'd last parted. "Hi, Indy." Az responded sadly.

Indy was a sensitive boy, and he could easily see the changes within his brother. At first there was excitement and Indy felt himself perk up. Maybe this task wouldn’t be as horrible as he thought. Of course Indigo deflated just as his brother did and his confidence fell and faltered completely. The vibrant violet boy took in a deep breath and summoned all of his courage. He had to convince Azure, this was the most difficult part of his self imposed quest. The cause of the rift between siblings. He loved and adored his brother, and couldn’t understand why he was so hostile towards their eldest sibling.
”Hi.” He returned as the boy tried to decipher the sadness in his brother’s voice. He struggled for a moment of how he was going to breach the subject. ”So… The other night.” Indigo wasn’t sure if he had it in him to confront his brother, but he was going to try. ”We need to make it up to Aslatiel.” The words were said with confidence, but Indy wasn’t sure he felt it in his heart. ”I was talking to aunty Io to try and figure out how. I think it would be best to recreate it, to get along this time, and show her how much we care.” He thought his speech was rather convincing, and before he knew it they’d be making up everything to their sister.

It was Azure's worst nightmare, first he'd upset his siblings one by one and now Indy was here asking him to do it again. The boy sighed heavily, laying his head down upon his paws and turning it away from Indy so he didn't have to see his brother's face. "I can't, Indy. Mortis won't come if I'm there and I don't want to be there if Mortis is there, and Asla won't be happy if we're not all there and it will just be the same it was last time." Each word was said in the same breath, the explanation rushed. His eyes shut, remembering how betrayed his sister had looked. As if Azure had done something wrong. How could he possibly explain to Indy what had happened? Indy would tell Asla and he'd lose everyone he loved to this stupid problem and they'd all love Mort more.

Indigo didn’t understand where his brother was coming from, how hard was it to get along with your own brother for one night? What had happened between the two that they didn’t even want to look at each other, or would make Azure disappoint their small sister? Indy was at a loss. ”It doesn’t have to be.” He answered back quietly, feeling his own disappointment building. ”Why can’t you two just put aside your differences for one night?” He asked desperately. ”I don’t even know why you can’t get along in the first place,” his frustration was showing through as well. ”We’re brothers, we’re supposed to love and take care of each other.” He argued, feeling as though he should have been making headway.
Even if he didn’t like Mort that didn’t change where his loyalties should lie. If he could so easily disregard their brother and his feelings what stopped Azure from doing the same to Indigo or Aslatiel? ”Why can’t you just do this for Asla?” He felt his fur bristle slightly, he should have stopped by now and gone to talk to aunt Iolaire again, but he hated how much animosity sat between Mortis and Azure and he had no idea how to fix it. His frustrations certainly were not helping anything.

Indy pressed on and on and Azure's face crumpled into what might have been a glare or the beginnings of a sob - he wasn't exactly sure. Onwards the other boy prodded, insisting that he should love his brother and do this favor for Asla. Indy just didn't understand, and Azure was becoming exceedingly frustrated that he was not being given the benefit of the doubt. "Mortis got me in trouble!" He bellowed, standing to his paws and facing down his purple brother. "I pushed him off a cliff and he tattled and Resin hit me and Dad hit me and it's all his fault and nobody cared! He didn't die, so why did I get in trouble?!" The pup let all his emotions out into his yell though the majority that came through was anger. He did feel sad, but it was hard to feel over his frustration and hate. "So just leave me alone! I can't do this for you or Asla or anyone else!"

Indigo just couldn’t understand, his little soul was too pure to believe that such animosity could be possible towards their sibling. He adored all three of them so much. They could have done anything to him and Indigo would have continued to love and adore them. The tension built between the two boys, neither one backing down when they should have, and Azure suddenly blurted out everything.
Indigo’s features fell as he took in his brother's words, and for a long moment the boy didn’t move he was frozen. Unable to even digest the words given to him. Az had pushed their brother off a cliff? How could he blame Mort for his own actions like that? What if Mort had been severely injured? ”Did you want him to die?” Indigo said quietly, danger creeping into his young voice as his icy eyes returned to Azure’s features.
Indigo was losing himself, he could feel it as the seconds ticked by. Maybe the boy would have felt sorry for his brother, no one deserved to be hit… unless they threw their brother off a cliff. Suddenly Indigo was no longer in his body, his rage took over. There was no question of why anymore, just pure unadultered rage from the husky purple pup
The avatar of anger didn’t give any warning as the boy pup aimed to race towards his brother. A deep growl resonated in his deep barrel like chest as he aimed to slam it against Azure’s shoulder. He wanted to send his brother flying. At the same time he’d aim to grasp hold of his brother’s scruff with his elongated fangs so he might shake some empathy into him.

Azure expected the disappointment in his brother's eyes, sighing heavily when the question was asked whether he wanted his brother to die or not. Why did that matter? Of course it hadn't been a murder attempt, Azure was trying to help Mort learn to fly. Birds didn't get yelled at for kicking their young out of the nest, and it wasn't Az's fault that Mort's wings weren't enough to support his weight. He couldn't even manage a glide, even baby winged animals could glide. It didn't matter though, because before Az could get his thoughts in order to respond Indy was upon him. While he and his brothers were all matched for height, Indy was the heaviest of them all. His chest slammed into Az's and he let out a surprised grunt, feeling the other boy's fangs puncturing upon his neck. Before he knew it, Azure was on his back. The sudden attack left him scatterbrained, and it wasn't until his brother's thrashing upon his scruff became more and more painful that Azure was able to bring his focus back enough to respond. His instincts failed him and he snapped angrily at the air first, realizing it would do little against an opponent that had hold already upon his neck. Azure lifted his oversized paws, aiming to grab his brother in a big bear hug and rake the dangerous claws wherever along the shoulder he could reach. His right hind leg moved upwards, his knee coming up towards his brother's underbelly with the intent to jam the mutated boney spur into the soft flesh. All the while the boy rocked hard to his left, hoping that between his hold and his knee jab that he could get the heavy pup off of him and find his feet once more. Had Indigo been in his right mind he would have stopped when he realized that he’d taken Azure by such surprise. For a long moment his brother didn’t do anything. Indy collided easily with his brother’s form and sent the boy to the ground before he wrapped his jaws around his brother’s scruff and shook violently. There was no satisfaction in his movements Indy was still fully enraged, and he didn’t even notice his brother was coming to. The other boy snapped eagerly at the air, missing Indy until his paws were suddenly there.
Azure’s claws were suddenly in his shoulders and Indy cried out in pain as they raked over his skin. He released his brother from his jaws as he tried to shake his brother off of him. Azure’s knee spike was suddenly in his belly and he was dislodged if only slightly, from his trance. Indigo tried to move away from the attacks, his skin bruised and bleeding. He cried out as emotions raced through him, and once more he tried to attack his brother. With no more regard for his own pain Indy aimed to bite again at Azure’s right ear, wanting to leave his mark so his brother never forgot these moments. He’d aim to do Az’s attack by trying to wrap his arms around Azure once again and sink his claws into his brother’s flesh.

Azure felt his claws make contact with the flesh and heard his brother's pained cries. Somehow they didn't matter as much to him, and as Indy released him he only fought harder. As Indy moved away Azure leaped forward to meet him once more, forgetting that his intention was to separate them and end the fight. The boy's bodies met and as Indy's forelegs sought his neck, Az's did the same. While they wrestled Az head as well mirrored his brother's movements, and while Indy moved to bite upon his ear Az's jaws moved to bite upon the other boy's. Snarls tore from his lips and as the bloodlust drove him it became easier and easier to forget that the wolf he sought to maim was his beloved brother. Both boys were fully wrapped up in unquellable rage and ferocity, despite their close ties they were both out for blood. Indigo had only ever unleashed his inner demon on Azure thus far. Though he cried out in pain it was only instinctual, Indy didn’t feel anything as the adrenaline raced through his veins. The battle reached its climax as the boys went for one another’s ears, Indigo’s jaws clasped around Azure’s ear and he pulled back, creating a notch in the appendage.
As soon as he tasted Azure’s blood his rage disappeared completely. Blue eyes widened as he disengaged from his brother and backed away. There was no more anger left, only guilt. His tail wrapped underneath his belly and between his legs. ”Azure…” His voice was small, he couldn’t believe what he had just done. How had he lost control again so easily? He continued to back away slowly, the need to run only grew but his legs wouldn’t obey him.

It all happened quickly, Indy landed his teeth upon Az's ear and came away, blood plastered upon his purple chin. Azure disengaged immediately at the feeling, crying out in pain and skittering backwards away from his brother. One wide paw lifted to press against his ear and his head tilted sharply to the side, feeling the trickle of blood run down along the side of his head as he did so. "That hurt." He complained, much as he had the first time Indy had drew blood on him. This time hurt a lot more, for some reason. The boy's eyes squinted, and he batted again and again against his ear with his paw to try and make the feeling go away. Occupied upon his own problems, it took him a while to focus back on his brother and see the stance the purple pup held himself in. Azure immediately grew concerned, lifting his shoulder to rub against his ear as he looked over at his brother. Why was he so sad? It didn't make any sense to Az, but he disliked seeing Indy so upset. "It's okay, Indy" He offered, trying to make his voice steady and calm as if the pain had already left. Why hadn't it left? No hurt ever stuck along this long. He saw the guilt in his beloved brother's eyes and didn't know what else to say. "I'm really sorry." The more his adrenaline faded, the more painful the injury became. He did his best not to cry, so as to not upset Indy further.
