Siren Primrose
She wasn’t sure that Mortis had actually taught her anything during their first play session, but she had laughed a lot. He easily kept her entertained and he made her feel safe. Enough that she had fallen asleep outside for the first time. She was so tired, but so happy at the same time. Mortis was warm and it hadn’t been long before the girl had fallen asleep on the older boy. She’d been severely disappointed when she woke up in the palace and he’d gone home.
Siren went into the forest with Chimera, and met her aunt Hela the day before so she wasn’t sure if Mortis had come to see her or not. She hoped that he hadn’t been disappointed to find her gone. To make it up to him, or just to get her way, Siren braved the big wide world. This was her first time at the sandy bridge that connected the palace island to the mainland. Her bicolored eyes stared longingly over the expanse. She’d made it this far without the monsters getting her, Mort was just on the other side. Siren just had to cross the bridge.

Mortis still had his responsibilities as Heir, with border patrols and training, and huntings. Once Siren had fallen asleep, he had gently let her down, and gone in search of a safe place on the island to stake as their own. It took him longer than he expected, and by the time he returned to her, she was gone. There was the scent of adults around her, and he suspected she would be alright. Parents weren’t the bullies in her life.
He returned to the Armada just in time to do his patrol, and spent some hours in boredom as nothing happened or changed. Along the edges of the Armada.
It was getting late by the time he was free, and returned to Ashen to check on his charge. He found her more easily than expected, she was on the landbridge that he skated across with some ease. He trotted towards her, and sat down besides the tiny form of the snowy girl. “Hey Siren, did you have fun with your…?” he wasn’t sure of the relation of the adult he had smelled.

Siren remained still for a long time, her bright dual toned eyes searching the distance between herself and the mainland. She debated with herself about moving, about going forward and searching for her new friend on her own. Before the girl could make her decision she was rewarded with the sight of the winged boy. She visibly brightened, the girl found her feet and grinned as he approached her. The princess wagged her long furred tail and seemed to barely be contained within her tiny body. She wasn’t sure she’d ever felt so excited before. Not about food, not about leaving the den, not about seeing her parents return to the palace.
She tried to settle down and sit beside him but after her nap, and waking up without a headache, she was full of puppy energy. ”Hi, Mortis.” She said sweetly as she tried to get her wiggling under control. She wasn’t being very princessly. ”Yes, Aunt Hela was telling me about ghosts.” She told him as she circled him with little hops, realizing she wasn’t going to be able to calm down. She felt safe with the young Fatalis boy, and her safety provided the means for her to be able to let loose. She could be the tiny boisterous puppy she was meant to be. ”Chimera said they were going to get me. I can’t hide in the shadows and I cry when I’m scared.”

“Ghosts? Azure thinks ghosts are real, do you?” he asked with some curiosity. He wasn’t sure he thought so. He laughed softly as Siren wiggled about on the ground. He scooped down and gave the much smaller wolf a nuzzle, tickling under her chin with a paw. “Want a ride back to the palace?” he offered. She was still easily small enough to ride on his broad back. Likely, she would be small enough for a very long time.
He frowned when she said that Chimera said they would get her. “My big brother is scared of ghosts too, but i’ve never seen one” he promised her. Telling her both that even big scary wolves could be scared of things, and also that he didn’t think they existed.

Siren Primrose
He seemed quite surprised by her mention of ghosts, but Siren’s belief and fear was very real. Chimera had convinced her that night he was forced to stay outside the palace, and Aunt Hela and Uncle Hari both were sure of their existence. The latter had offered to make her items to ward them off from her. She thought that Azure was Mort’s brother and he too felt the fear of the supernatural.
It was easy to forget how scared she was with the big winged wolf beside her , he was strong and brave and he gave her tickles. The tiny princess giggled as he tickled her chin, but nodded enthusiastically as he offered her a ride to the palace. ”Yes, please, Mort.” She answered him politely, besides being tiny she was a perfect Klein princess. If he offered Siren would climb upon his back with great care, though she was no heavy burden to begin with.
”Chimera sees them all the time.” her voice was low and the fear crept back into her tones. She could see things as well sometimes, but unlike her brother spying the activities of the dead she could glimpse moments of the potential future. Though she didn’t know it yet. Siren had no doubt of the existence of ghosts, but Mort’s bravery and disbelief helped her feel better. ”Will you keep them away?” She asked as she sunk into the plush fur of his scruff.
