this soul is not so vibrant; the reckoning, the sickening

Strange new lands, strange new feelings; what miraculous life, what immersive homeland had Rhen found herself suddenly prey to, all too suddenly at mercy to? Nothing like the old woods, nothing like the old home she had once known- and yet, within the mystery, such excitement, such vulnerability... So much potential for the young fae, whose every step was unsure yet eager. This was the place- at least, for now, for her to set up sanctuary.

So many curiosities, all ripe and begging for discovery, all screaming at Rhen- daring her to indulge, daring her to consume herself with understanding it all, no matter how fickle, no matter how evasive. Every delicate, predetermined step the femme took, beneath her weight the snow took a sharp inward breath, crunching. Aside from that, utter silence in the woods; no breaths of the wind, no chirping of the free avians, no scuttling of the vermin and lesser animus. Only the quiet, careful manner her paws kissed the frozen earth, and the momentary inhale of her breath; aside from the blinding white, the only color otherwise was a deep red of the tree trunks peeking through snow covered pillars. "Oh," so unlike anything she had known.

Was it destiny, predetermined fate, that of all places... Rhen found herself here?

Gold Medal 2020

The woman had not found herself this far north before, and she wasn’t sure if she really liked it all that much. It was far too cold, even with her winter coat she simply disliked the lower temperatures. The only thing that had brought her here was her mere curiosity. She wanted to know what else was out there, as she could only stay within the south for so long. She wondered as well if maybe there was a possibility that there was food, or at least different prey.

Though it was another predator that she had found, another wolf. She stopped for a moment as she spotted the tracks, and then saw another woman standing there before her. Her ears twitched and she gently cleared her throat to announce her presence, as she did not want to startle the other wolf. “Hello,” she greeted calmly, it seemed that she had been looking at the surrounding trees. They sure were… Different, at least in coloration. She wasn’t entirely sure, but the bark seemed to look a little different too. But for now, her attention was turned to the other fae.

Rhen found herself enthralled by the redwoods, whose burnt crimson hues created such striking contrast against the snow she could notice no other thing in the vicinity. She felt as though she were in a made believe world, a pup, overwhelmed by the world seeing it for the first time. It was strange, feeling as though surrounded by wrought flames, yet absent of the heavy scent and taste of smoke she knew quite well. Stranger than that... Rhen felt resoundingly joyous.

Not that it was a distraction, but a soft voice pulled Rhen away from her surroundings, instead bidding attention to the origin of vocals. Rhen's crown tilted to see a dominantly alabaster femme. Eyes traced her similar build, finding it mostly to be all but ordinary- but things were never that simple to Rhen. There was a strange sort of beauty to her, whose tail was a sweet russet color; but those eyes she bore demanded attention, and Rhen was helpless to oblige. "Hello," she says, as Rhen smiles in a vacant, absent way.

"Oh," Rhen murmurs softly, emerald mirrors meeting her companies. "Hello," she returned.
