a little help

Roan didn’t fail to notice how her treatments were affecting his little wife. Holding down her meals seemed to be a daily struggle, along with how weak she was. Like she’d never fully recovered from their trip. He admired how committed she was to the task ahead, but watching her put herself through it all was a lot. He wanted, no he had to do something to help relieve her suffering. She was doing this for the both of them and he felt like he wasn’t shouldering enough of the heavy burden.
The scarred warrior made his way to Indigo’s garden in search of Resin’s sister. He’d never spoken to her but he knew what she looked like and he hoped she’d be able to help him out in relieving Iolaire’s suffering. ”Miss Meadow?” He called out curiously, hoping it wouldn’t take too long to find her, he was eager to get back to the cottage and back to Io.

Meadow is working in Indigo’s garden, watering, weeding, giving the plants love on this wonderful day. She moves about the growing plot of land, humming to herself, talking to the flowers. Meadow is in her element. Paws are caked with dirt and she is in the process of removing some weeds when she hears her name. It is a question and she quickly gets up, dusting off the dirt and shaking the dust from coat. Setting aside her watering container, she shrugs on her saddlebag and moves toward the spot where she heard her name being called. Arriving quickly, she spies a big wolf with an inky black and silver coat. She has never met him but, from his scent and what Resin has told her, she easily places him as Roan, Iolaire’s husband. Eyes sparkle with happiness and she moves to stand before him. “Hello! You must be Roan. Sorry I have not come to call on you, been a little busy helping with this garden.” Offering him a huge, bright smile, Meadow notes the worry that seems to settle on his features. “Is everything alright?” Brows furrow in concern as she watches him. From her appearance Roan couldn’t help but think he’d been interrupting her. Dark ears folded to his skull as he took on an apologetic look despite her enthusiasm. She knew who he was right away which was a relief at least. ”Hello,” he couldn’t quite reach her level of pep but his lips did pull back slightly in a smile. ”No, don’t apologize. We’ve all been busy.” In more ways than one. The worry hadn’t left his features as was obvious in how concerned she became as she read him deeper. Ron lowered himself to his haunches and nodded lightly. ”Yes. Iolaire is taking many medications right now and all I want to do for her is make her feel better from the side effects. She’s sick most mornings, do you have an idea of something that would settle her stomach?” He asked her, keeping his voice level as he tried not to beg. He knew Meadow wouldn’t deny relief to Io.

Eyes watch Roan as he greets her and Meadow offers him a warm smile. When he explains about not apologizing, she nods in understanding and thanks. That is when she notices his worry and immediately asks if everything is alright. He nods and lowers himself onto his haunches before explaining about Iolaire. Now it is Meadow’s turn to feel concern for niece. Eyes fill with worry and she nods her understanding before saying, “There a few herbs that might help. For Io, I recommend ginger root, mint leaves, fennel and chamomile. Everything except the fennel can be steeped into teas to help ease stomach upset. The ginger and mint can be strong so I recommend putting some honey into the tea to help her stomach accept it.” Shrugging off her bag, Meadow noses through it and retrieves two bundles. She places them on the ground in front of Roan and says, “This one,” indicating the smaller of the two bundles, “is ginger root. Shave some of the root into her tea to make it more potent. The taste will be stronger as well. If she doesn’t like the flavor, add honey until she does. And that,” she points to the other bundle “is fennel. The bulb, or root, can be eaten to help as well. If you can wait a moment, I will get you some mint leaves and chamomile to take back, as well as some honey.” Meadow waits for his approval to leave. "Speech"

He didn’t think that he would be able to stump her with his request, but she obviously cared quite a bit about Iolaire. Roan listened intently, he had to take care of his woman. After everything she was putting herself through… Hopefully Meadow’s solution would be successful. ”Ginger, mint, fennel, chamomile.” He repeated the recipe as she continued to speak, though his voice was low enough that he wouldn’t bother her.
What he was surprised about was the woman suddenly offering up her own stores. He would have been happy to go out and collect his own, and kind of figured he would, but that was easier than teaching him what to find. He perked his dark ears and scarred features watched with awe as she handled and explained each one. ”I can wait.” He lowered his head humbly. ”Thank you so much for this.” He added before she could gather the last bits.

Nodding when she hears Roan’s soft voice as he repeats the list, Meadow adds, “I would start with the ginger and mint. Have her chew some mint leaves and brew ginger tea. If her stomach accepts that, go for the fennel next. Chamomile can also help her sleep so use that when you want her to relax more.” As she explains more and he listens with eager ears, Meadow finds a deep admiration growing for the wolf. He really loves Io and something about the way he listens with persistent earnest shows Meadow the depth of that love. When she has finished and offers him the ginger and fennel, he agrees to wait while she goes to fetch the other ingredients. His humble thanks brings a soft smile to Meadow’s lips and, before she moves to run to her den, the smaller wolf moves forward and aims to bump her head lovingly against his. She tells him, “Of course, Roan. You are my family now. I do anything for my family.” Stepping back, offering him one more warm smile, she then turns around to spirit toward her den. The trip is fast and Rigel flies has to pump his wings hard to keep up with her furious pace. Arriving, she pushes past the door and into the chamber that leads to her side. The mint leaves and chamomile are quickly bundled together in a leather pouch and put in her bag. She picks a medium size jar of honey and that too goes in her bag. As she turns to leave, a big leather pouch catches her eye. Stuffing it inside her bag, she again takes off back to the garden. Paws pound the dirt, closing the distance. Meadow and Rigel arrive back quickly and she returns to Roan as Rigel perches on top of the greenhouse. Slightly breathless, Meadow produces the pouch of mint leaves and chamomile and the jar of honey. “Another thing you can do, if she is having a hard time eating, rub some honey on her gums. This will help produce saliva and simulate her appetite.” Casting her eyes around quickly, looking for something, she adds, “If you can give me one more minute there is something else I want to give you for her…” voice trails off as she spies the intended objects, there are some big, semi flat rocks nearby. Perfect for what she needs. She looks to Roan for permission to go. "Speech"

Roan listened carefully but he wasn’t sure that he’d be able to remember everything he was being told. He had confidence he wouldn’t screw anything up too bad. At least the cottage was made from stone, if he started a fire they’d be mostly okay. He just didn’t want to upset her stomach or cause worse symptoms.
He really didn’t expect Meadow’s easy affection, she assured him that they were family though and he leaned against her lightly before she pulled away. Roan wasn’t a man of many words, but he grinned. She was a sweet woman, and another support beam to the family. ”And I will show you gratitude, every time.” He told her with a short nod of his big head as she raced away.
Roan reclined onto his haunches and stretched languidly while he waited, his mind returning to Iolaire as he recited his instructions inwardly until her return. He nodded in acceptance as she told him about the honey and mentioned one last thing. ”Just one more minute.” Roan grinned at her teasingly as he winked.

Dipping her head at Roan’s words, Meadow offers a smile before she is running. Her movements are filled with worry for Iolaire but Meadow stays calm as she collects the needed ingredients. Upon her return to Roan, she delivers the supplies before asking for one more minute. When he agrees and grins, winking teasingly at her, the earthen hued wolf smiles and dips her head in thanks. Moving a short distance away, she pulls out the large leather pouch that she had tucked into her bag and gathers six large, semi-flat rocks. Meadow is careful to make sure that none of them have points and that they are smooth. In other circumstances, they would have made good river skipping rocks but these are destined to help her niece. Once they are safely tucked into the pouch, the smaller wolf returns to Roan and offers him the pouch with its contents. Laying it alongside the other bundles, she explains, “Alright, these rocks can be taken out of the pouch and warmed in a small fire. Once they are warm but not scalding, put them in the pouch and have Io curl around it. The warmth will help relax her stomach muscles and sooth any pain she might have. You can do that as often as Iolaire likes.” Pausing, she thinks over all the instructions she gave Roan and nods absently to herself saying, “Alright I think that is everything.” Looking at all the bundles and pouches she has laid out before Roan, Meadow ponders how he carry them all home at once. Looking up at the bigger wolf, she tells him, “You will need something to get these all back to your cottage in one trip. Here, you can borrow my bag.” Shrugging off the bag, she carefully packs it with all the items. Once more turning her gaze to Roan, she says, “Take this back to the cottage and I will come by later to retrieve it. If you need anything else, please come get me. I will bring Iolaire some flowers when I come to pick up my bag. And Roan? Please, keep her safe.” The smaller wolf’s eyes plead with him to keep her niece healthy and protected. A small smile touches her lips even as concern lines her face. "Speech"
