That's Not A Log

Skælingr had meant to take Ragna out for a date but one thing lead to another and their work for the day ran late so plans ultimately had to change. It was still daylight when they arrived at the mangrove but Ragna had agreed to spend the night there. He'd heard the place was something truly special after the sun went down. They'd set their travois down and got a shelter made before the went for a walk. Skælingr balanced on the large roots of a mangrove tree, dipping his head low to get a drink. The heat of summer was proving a burden even under the shade of tree. He paused in his drinking as he noticed something massive moving toward him. At first he thought it was a log. He squinted. That was a very strange log. "Speech" |

Ragna hummed to herself as she walked along with her husband. The day was beautiful though a touch too hot and humid for her taste. Now that summer was moving into Boreas she was interested on working her way up north where the weather would be a bit more tolerable. They paused so her husband could get a drink and as he did she took a look at the scenery around her. There were a number of interesting plants she wished to gather in case they had healing properties. She looked back to Skæ and noticed him looking at something in the water. It immediately clicked what it was. "Skæ!" She seized her husband by his scruff and yanked him back just as the jaws of a massive salt water crocodile closed over the space where his head had been moments before.

He made the trip to the mangroves every now and then. He had discovered that his bedmate was nocturnal, and their days occasionally clashed. He would stay up half way through the night, before falling into slumber, then wake far too early, and begin his day well she slept. Today, he was feeling restless, and decided to get in some exercise beyond their island.
He took the swim to shore, and shook off his coat, wandering through the mangroves, enjoying the change in scenery. He caught the scent of wolves nearby, and intended to skirt around them. When one let out a cry, his plan suddenly changed. He moved cautiously closer, to find the couple, the crocodile that had attempted to catch one as its prey still eyeing them up. He considered the situation for a moment. “You guys need a hand?”

Skælingr stared in shock as jaws closed just inches in front of his face. "Sweet spirits!" He called out as he scrambled back onto solid ground. He exhaled heavily, glad his wife had been looking out for him. He glanced to the side as a voice asked if they needed a hand. He saw a brightly colored man with saber fangs. "I think we should-" he yelped as the crocodile surged up onto the ground, wriggling toward him. Skælingr snarled and swatted at the crocodiles jaws. "Yes, I think we do. How the fuck do you fight this thing?" He leapt to the side as the crocodile twisted around to try and get him. "Speech" |

Ragna released her husband's scruff as soon as he was out of reach of the crocodile. She moved back a little ways. What awful creatures! She turned at the voice of a man who asked if they needed any help. Well she wasn't quite sure but after the crocodile lunged again her husband was quick to ask for assistance. She nodded, eyeing the crocodile for a moment before diving in and biting it's right hind leg. It was a glancing blow as she leapt over the beast, narrowly avoiding the jaws. These things were surprisingly quick on land! The more she saw of this nasty creature the less she liked it. Why couldn't it go away?

Well, that was all the assurance he needed. Lament leaped forward, a snarl on his maw as the creature continued its pursuit of the couple. His quick stride brought him to the side of the creature, and he leapt forward, swiping a claw across one of its fat paws. The scales were lighter there, but his attack failed to draw blood. Alas. he hoped it was enough to distract it, at least.
“Hey, over here you overgrown lump of seaweed!” he snarled, hoping to gain its attention. To give the wolves a chance to run, or make attacks of their own without its teeth bearing down upon them.

Skæ's heart leapt in his throat as Ragna took a dangerous dive toward the crocodile. It puffed up and twisted around to get at her but thankfully missed. It still seemed intent on fighting them. He hadn't the foggiest idea but he supposed his wife had the right idea. The legs seemed pretty vulnerable. How was the creatures neck, he wondered? As the stranger distracted the creature Skælingr leapt onto its back, his teeth digging into the side of it's neck. This proved a mistake. The creature's flesh was thick and while he did manage to pierce the neck the creature was so strong and low to the ground that when it spun it sent Skælingr stumbling off of it. He quickly got to his feet and raced further inland. "I don't want to risk injury to fight that ugly thing. Let's get out of here. I don't think it will follow us to far onto land." "Speech" |

Ragna kept her eye on the overgrown lizard, watching it carefully as the stranger caught its attention and distracted it away from the couple. Her husband leapt on top of the crocodile while she dove for the other hind leg. She snapped in a long biting motion, seeking to do as much damage as possible before she dodged out of the way. She quickly bounded up the bank after her husband and nodded. "I agree, I don't like how that thing moves. I'm not sure how to fight it." She'd make a mental note to be careful near the warmer river banks. This was proof it was time to move farther north where the lizards weren't bigger than the wolves.

As it turned to Lament, the two wolves decided it was time to bail. The Ademre threw himself to the side as the crocodile surged at him, and the warrior rolled. Coming back to his feet, he worked to put some distance between himself and the crocodile. Keeping close to the couple, to ensure they all got out of there alright. It seemed, despite the fright, that they all had gotten off with barely a scratch.
How to defeat something like a crocodile was unknown to him, as well. And he mulled it over on his head. He knew he would have been better off getting in closer, and using his fangs. If he had spent more time fighting it, and learning its reaction speed, he might have at that. Instead, the small testing of it hadn’t been enough to learn much - except how dangerous it was. “Everyone alright?” he asked.
