Bear Butts

A gorgeous summer day dawned over the southern region of Boreas. Ragna was out for some early morning herb hunting, for once unaccompanied by her husband. They'd settled in the Rustling Thicket for now, waiting to see how summer would unfold. She'd worked her way south to the weeping woods and was on her way to crossing the border into the Lover's Mangrove when she felt as though someone was watching her. Ragna slowed to a stop. Her ears flicked back then forward as she tried to figure out what wasn't right. She noticed the birds had gotten quieter as welll. Carefully, she crept forward, eyes searching for shelter when all of a sudden a massive brown bear rocketed from the underbrush.

Naiche was roaming the willows with Pan going along for the ride. The pangolin had part of its tail wrapped around the wolf’s neck for support, its dangerously sharped front claws curled in so only his knuckles touched the fur and the scaley backside showing for any who knew to appreciate the beauty of pangolin scales.
Naiche had met Sirius here, it felt interesting to be back where it had all started. The place was nice enough but not a place Naiche would have wanted to turn into a long term home. The willows could hide too many things, especially when the shadows were long. Naiche had made it his job to know every area around the pack land instead of just the home turf. This place deserved extra time with so many spots to hide.
He smelled the wolf and a moment later he smelled the bear. Was that the same bear who had been on the borderline of their territory before? It was close enough to be possible but he couldn’t say for sure. Regardless this was closer than acceptable. Regardless he also just wanted to take another stab at a bear fight, apparently, they were common enough these days. Hopefully, this other wolf knew what they were doing as well.
After he helped chase away the bear he’d have to see what a wolf was also doing closer to the packland, though admittedly not in it. It was a free spot to roam but; well this could wait until after the bear. Naiche leaped through a strand of willow trees to see both the large bear and the strange wolf. The bear likely heard him but its attention was on the female.
Naiche’s pangolin just about had Naiche jump from shock when it actually made a sound! Something concerned in its shrill tone where it then launched itself off of Naiche. Glad to know his fighting help was so brave but admittedly fair enough. Pan wouldn’t do much good against a bear most likely. Where Pan went Naiche didn’t have time to look.
Naiche grabbed directly behind the bear's leg, yanking on it while he watched its hips, the moment they swung about he was leaping away and gaining enough distance to be out of arm strike range for a moment. He hadn’t been attached to the bear for more than a heartbeat, it had swung about pretty fast! Naiche’s mouth was open in a thrilled grin. This was downright addicting!

Ragna swore as she saw the bear charge. Did spring always make them so crazy? She could understand waking up from a long winter hungry as all hell but this was ridiculous! Ragna dove to the side, sliding around the roots of a large mangrove tree to help put obstacles between the bear and herself. She curved around the tree as the bear slowed for just a moment before it slammed into the tree, unable to stop itself in time. The bear took a few paces back but before it could go after Ragna again a strange young male appeared and grabbed the bear's hind leg. The bear twisted around and Ragna launched herself forward, her jaw's latching onto the side of the bear's face in such a ferocious grip that her upper fangs pierced the beast's left eye.
The reaction was violent. It roared in agony and flung it's arm back. The back of bear's great paw slammed into her chest and sent her flying right into the water.

Even as Naiche had jumped away the stranger had charged back into attack the bear. That was Naiche had hoped to see, but what he hadn’t expected was for the wolf to go at the bear’s face. Naiche was pretty sure he would never be so bold. Soon enough he had the proof it wasn’t the smartest idea going for the mighty predator’s face. It was impressive most certainly, and getting the bear’s eye was a true feat to be spoken of! However, the wolf was sent flying and Naiche wasn’t sure how bad the damage would bel If it was just a paw it could just be bruises or bones snapped which would hurt and cause damage for a time but if the bear’s claws had got her she could be dead instead. Naiche ran at the bear, biting into its leg and running off again, spinning to face the angry bear showing his fangs and snarling in a challenge. The bear seemed to hesitate, probably deciding if it wanted to attack him, check on the wolf he sent flying or attempting to flee. Naiche kept his eyes locked on it, lunging in just far enough to make a bear claw swing back at him. The goal now was to give the other wolf enough time to get back in the game, if it could. Naiche had no interest fighting a bear alone for very long but hopefully, one-eye would choose to flee after that damaging an injury. Of course, it could just get angrier and go on a total rampage. Ragna twisted and kicked until she broke the surface with a gasp and a wince. She was certain her ribs were bruised and she quickly swam to the shore, pulling herself out of the water. The last thing she needed was to become the target of a crocodile or other nasty creature hiding in the water just waiting for an easy meal. She got to her feet and shook the water out of her coat before racing back toward the bear. She focused in on its back end, twisting her head so her fangs snapped right over the bears tail with enough force that she was rewarded with the sound of breaking bone. The bear yowled and pulled forward and away. It twisted around to face the wolves, taking a few shaky steps backwards. Ragna took a few steps forward, snarling as angrily as she could.

Naiche’s attention was fully on the bear but when Ragna closed in on the bear he was relieved to see she was still in the battle. A wolf with the guts to fight a bear was one that would be a shame to get killed off. Naiche had planned to charge again but then saw Ragna and him were both facing the front end of the bear which wasn’t where he would want to attack from. Naiche started to take a few steps to one side but paused as the bear started moving away. It was done fighting apparently. Naiche likewise started to move towards it, head lowered and lips pulled back to show every tooth. The bear backed up more and then as if it had finally made up its mine it turned about running off as fast as possible. Naiche looked to the other wolf, “are you ok? He hit you pretty good before.” With that said leaving the pack border lands behind them to head towards the mangroves. Speech:"Live to fight" Think
