The student wants to teach
Tamsyn

Naiche needed to find Tamsyn, it was of the greatest necessity that he gets a lesson from her. Apparently being a good warrior included potentially teaching students. If he could not teach well enough he would fail at the job and that was absolutely unacceptable. How could he deserve to live in this pack if he couldn't meet standards? Naiche had met Tamsyn the first time at the beach and considering her job she most surely go into the sparring ring at times.
Pan's head and front knuckles rested on Naiche's forehead, and back legs resting along his shoulders. It's long tail wrapped around a portion of Naiche's neck for balance. Initially, he had never planned to let an animal ride on top of him like this.. It was convenient and Pan was a good pet so it was fine in the end.
Naiche slowed as he came to the start of the beach where he could see the ring ahead of him. Naiche would learn all he could from Tamsyn, he would raise in rank and he would be the best pack member he could be. When he spotted Tamsyn he made a straight line for her.

ooc: Not to self, liquid time set between her talk with Resin and the orgy party The training grounds were often a place she went to clear her head or let herself get lost in the monotony and predictability of her training. Her mind was still cluttered and uncertain about the task that Resin had recommended for her. She completely understood that there was no pressure to actually follow through with her agreement to try other things, but at the same time she wanted them both to be completely sure about their relationship. If this was something that Resin wanted her to experience then she would agree that she should. It did make sense from a logical sort of sense - why not live out the experiences that she hadn't been allowed to have yet? If it didn't bother Resin then there really wasn't a reason not to... but her deep seated, underlying anxieties still gnawed at her and made her nervous about the whole thing. Blue was perched on top of one of the mannequins that were set out around the training area, watching as Tamsyn practiced her attacks on the one next to his. The black lemur was nibbling on an apple while he observed. She'd been working with him to see where he might come in handy during a fight and letting him watch her practice had been working out well so far. He really was a clever primate, even if he was a bit mischievous and rowdy at times. A chirping noise from her companion pulled her attention away from her training and she looked over her shoulder to see what it was he had spotted. Her eyes landed on Naiche who was very clearly coming to see her so she stepped away from the mannequin she had been using and turned to face him with a small smile. "Hello, Naiche!" She spotted the creature on his head and she looked at it curiously with a small tilt of her head. "Who's your friend?" Meanwhile Blue glared at him from his perch, clearly still not pleased to see him after their last encounter. |

He'd found her! Naiche slowed to a stop, tail swaying rhythmically back and forth. “Tamsyn,” he nearly started with ‘I need your help’ but decided that might be over speaking it a bit, “would you mind helping me?” Blue was completely ignored by Naiche, in fact there was a subtle hint to it with his shoulder being what faced the creature most as he looked at Tamsyn. “Sirius said if I wanted to move up in rank I might have to help instruct another wolf so…well, can you give me some pointers?” Was training correctly hard? [b]“You know, how Sirius likes wolves trained.” Naiche didn’t want to mess up on anything, it was important he be perfect. “Oh, and this is Pan.” Naiche rolled his eyes up to try and see the little pangolin on top of him. It raised a hand, waving the large claws at her before tucking the claws inward so his knuckles rested against Naiche’s forehead. “He’s friendly but silent.” Naiche liked silent. Tamsyn gave Naiche a curious look when he asked for her help and listened intently while he explained what he needed. She laughed a little and smiled when he mentioned that she knew how Sirius liked others to be trained. She liked to think that was true, though sometimes Sirius was a mystery. More or less though, she had figured out how she at least liked to teach and had gotten much more comfortable with the concept since becoming General. She remembered when Sirius first gave her the task of making sure the pack was trained and how nervous she had been about it so she could certainly understand him wanting to get some advice on the subject. She smiled and gave Pan a small nod in greeting when Naiche's companion waved to her from its perch on top of the golden man's head. She heard a slightly jealous chittering from Blue that was still perched on the mannequin beside her, but she didn't pay her problematic companion much mind. Instead she let herself focus on the topic that Naiche had come all this way to ask her about. "Well, I'm not sure I'm exactly and expert at teaching and training, but I've certainly gotten more comfortable with it. It's really not so difficult once you start doing it. Fighting is one of those things that most will learn from doing, so it's just about showing them the basics and then letting them get the hours of practice and training out of the way that they'll need to get good at it. That's what Sirius did with me anyway." She grinned a little when she thought about how unskilled and green she had been during their first training together. Oh how things had changed. "Of course sometimes you might think of something specific that they may not be able to train for on their own, or may not think to work on by themselves, but that's when pack training comes in - like the one we did in the mangroves." She settled back on her haunches as she spoke, trying to decide what pointers would actually be helpful for him to know. "I've found that either sparring with someone you're training or observing their spar with someone else and finding some specific, constructive feedback for them really helps. It makes them reflect more on what they just did and will make them think more intentionally about what they might do in the future. You'll figure out what style works best for you as you go though." |

Blue was of course ignored, he didn’t like the lemur before it had messed with his tail and after that any chance was all over. Naiche nodded as she spoke of how Sirius had trained her, hadn’t that been the first lesson Sirius had given him? A spar with him and then they’d gone out hunting coyotes together. Actually, he needed to ask Sirius for a spar again later, both to see if he could do any better against him now and to show off how he had improved.
Tamsyn made it sound easy enough and really did mirror things he had already experienced here. The group lesson from Tamsyn, the observation from Resin along with critiquing afterward. Naiche was silent and had a quiet expression to him, his mind working through things where some part of it was normally focused on his other senses of the area around him. Her words and his soaking in the meaning were currently his priorities. Up to this point Naiche had given his pointers through snappy lectures, but that was only to the cowards which seemed totally different to those actually desiring to be warriors. Sometimes rougher motivation was required. That much seemed totally obvious. “That sounds easy enough I imagine.” It really did, let them fight it out, and tell them when they made dumb mistakes and what to do for improving. He could try to copy Tamsyn, Sirius, and Resin. They had always been friendly in their critiquing, maybe that was because of his willingness though.
“Sirius wants all the wolves to know the basics of fighting right? What about the cowards who seem to lack interest in it? Is there a time limit until they are thrown out if they refuse to learn?” In Naiche’s mind they should certainly be thrown out, why keep those who could not defend the pack. “Why do we let them in before they have the ability? I know there has to be a reason but what is it? Is it a temporary agreement that they have a set period of time to start training?” He hadn’t thought of it before but Naiche imagined that much might make some sense. “It would be harder to train those who don’t wish to improve themselves.” Thus the use of force, but this was a moment for asking questions not giving the answer he had come up with.
Pan had seemed to give a small smile and waved at Blue, but he still didn’t bother talking. Naiche really liked the fact he’d ended up with something that didn’t chatter as Blue did.

Tamsyn frowned as she listened to Naiche describe some of their members as "cowards" and that they "don't wish to improve themselves." She had heard from Rhona that Naiche had been a bit... stern with her when they met, but Tamsyn really hadn't thought much of it and had just assured her sister in law that the wheat colored wolf hadn't meant any ill will by it. Now she was seeing first hand how his mind was working and how he was approaching the situation which made her concerned about the idea of him training others. Not everyone came to the Armada ready to fight, but that didn't mean that they couldn't learn or even that they wouldn't. She appreciated his desire to have the entire pack ready and willing to defend it, but not everything in life had to be about fighting. She settled on her haunches and gave the would-be warrior a stern look. She wasn't sure what the best way to get through to him was, but the only thing she could do was use herself as an example. She wasn't angry in her tone, but she was firm and very clear that she disagreed with his thinking. "When Zee found me, I was moments away from throwing myself off of a cliff because I didn't know that there was a better option. I was kept up by nightmares every night from memories from my previous life and I was just so exhausted and lost that I thought that was the only way to escape it. Zee found me and convinced me to come here instead. I wasn't ready to train or fight right away, but Sirius had patience with me and showed me that it was possible for me to learn and defend myself. He gave me a purpose bigger than myself to work toward and that saved my life... but I hadn't been ready for that right away. It took a lot of time and patience, on his end and with myself, to get to this point. If he had been following your logic I wouldn't be sitting here right now." Tamsyn paused for a moment, watching his face as she let him absorb that information, hoping perhaps she might be able to get through to him. He was rough around the edges, but she really did see a good bit of potential in him so she hoped that his potential wouldn't be wasted because of his harsh, idealistic ideas. "Now, if they are given time and the opportunity to better themselves and they still refuse to do anything to help the pack then that is a different story - but it's also not your job or responsibility to force those wolves to train. All you can do is provide them the tools and the encouragement to use them. If they don't follow through with that then it's Sirius' job to deal with that issue. However... I think you'll have a hard time finding anyone in this pack that isn't willing to better themselves. Sirius is a good judge of character and is very up front with what he expects of his wolves." |

Tamsyn clearly didn’t like his last set of questions which he hadn’t really expected. They had seemed like all good questions for different scenarios. When Tam mentioned her thoughts of cliff-jumping Naiche was simply stunned. This wolf was strong and seemed so confident and experienced. How could someone like her have ever been so weak and unable to handle life? Naiche still questioned weakness in others, of those who had a weak side to them and yet had a hard time associating that with something Tam had once been. One way or another he got a point from all this, in the armada wolves were to be given time to recover from emotional suffering before training them to fight. Naiche didn’t have to agree with it but Tam was right how to handle them was not a decision for Naiche to make but for Sirius. Naiche looked down and a bit sideways frustrated with the situation. He knew logically what he had to do, he knew why Tam felt as she did. However, after telling himself that to be a coward was to be unfit as a wolf for so long it was how he had to judge others. They should live up to the same standards as Naiche put on himself regardless of the past or the challenges. She was saying that it was ok to be weak at times and rely upon others. Naiche wasn’t ready to believe that. However, he would do what was expected and see how things went. “I can’t envision that ever being you.”Spoken a bit more soft and humbly, “You're not weak like that.” That would of course go along with her point, and yet still he couldn’t accept that fact. “I know you’re right though, it was arrogant of me to question how things work.” Naiche was a mixture of guilt for assuming the wrong things but frustration in his lack of being able to simply agree. “I’m sorry.” Naiche knew he was going to be up late thinking and getting nowhere on this.

Tamsyn watched while Naiche seemed to be process this new information and watched the frustration on his features. She would tell that this went against everything he believed, but at least he was considering it. Even if he didn't fully accept and understand them right now, she had made him think and that was at least a step in the right direction. She knew she wasn't going to be in the Armada for much longer so she wanted to make sure there were warriors that would take her place. She wasn't sure if Naiche was ready for that role just yet, but he was on his way and that was what mattered. Growth and progress were the most important things in her eyes. She chuckled a little when he mentioned that he couldn't imagine her in that situation. That was the point, wasn't it? She was proof that you could get yourself out of that place if you put in enough effort. It just wasn't easy and sometimes it wasn't entirely possible. She and simply been one of the lucky ones that had found themselves in the paws of someone that had wanted to help rather than someone that would take advantage of her broken down state. She didn't like his use of the word weak, but she understood what he meant. She hadn't been physically strong and compared to some others she still didn't think that she was. She was skilled, but brute strength certainly wasn't her thing. Although she wanted to correct him again, her expression softened and she smiled a little when he admitted that he had been arrogant and apologized. Tamsyn got up and walked over to him, bumping his shoulder with her head affectionately. "Broken doesn't mean weak. Just remember that. The most broken wolves are pretty much always the strongest because they were able to come out on the other side and rebuild themselves." She paused, giving him a pointed look. "But they usually can't do it on their own... At least not in a way that is healthy. Being vulnerable and needing help isn't a weakness." She turned and walked over to where Blue was perched and waited for the lemur to climb down onto her back. When she turned to look at Naiche again she gave him a bit of an assignment and a challenge. "I want you to work with Rhona. Help her train, get to know her. I think you'll find that she'll turn into one of the strongest of all of us with a bit of help and polish." |

She didn’t seem as upset with him now, that was a relief. Overall the number of wolves he felt strong respect for was small, and Tamsyn was one of those few. Long story short is she felt broken wolves could be strong with help. What if that was true but rare? Tamsyn had obviously managed that and so if nothing else there was proof it could happen. How many cases had gone that route though? The lean wolf was still stuck on how Tamsyn could ever have considered killing herself. Naiche felt like he had experience with rotten experiences but he had never felt any such desires. He had swallowed the pain and used that to push himself forward. It was what all wolves should know to do. Yah, no sleeping tonight while he chewed all this over. Naiche was keeping a close eye on her, watching as she got Blue, and expecting this was to be the end of the conversation. Naiche was surprised when Tam was throwing an assignment at him, and what the assignment was. To train and get to know the coward, er weakling, er Rhona. Moons and stars this was bound to be fun. Naiche found one spark that would help make it a worthy task though. Tamsyn was putting this on him, showing she felt he could do this and how could he dream of failing? Naiche found the inner drive needed to succeed which washed would at least temporarily give him the ability to try without harping on all the flaws he saw. Naiche would make it work out somehow. Hell if the golden wolf knew how, but hey when he got to the armada he lacked experience fighting. This would work out the same way. He gave a firm nod, “I’ll go seek her out immediately.” Suggestion, order, challenge, or whatever it may be Naiche wasn’t one to wait and ‘get around’ to a thing later. Speech:"Live to fight" Think
