Boar-dom

Hattori was attracted by the sound of splashing water and snorts of frustration. It didn't take him long to find the culprit, a wild boar had somehow managed to get itself lodged between the roots of a mangrove tree and the tide was coming in. It didn't seem all that worried, perhaps not yet grasping the severity of the situation, but Hattori knew easy pickings when he saw them. Moving around unseen and unheard was a little difficult given the terrain but with careful footing he managed, slowly and surely inching forward till the boar was in clear view. He was a beastly thing with sharp tusks and a big belly, if he managed to bring it down he'd have more than enough to eat for the next few days. But given the circumstances he knew it'd be a tough fight, attacking it from behind just wasn't an option unless he wanted to smush himself between the mangroves. And given his own size and build Hattori wouldn't have been surprised if he went and got stuck as well.
Seeing at there was no rush Hattori took a moment to mull it over, just in time to see the boar start to wriggle and struggle again. Clearly very determined to get out of the mess it'd landed itself in.

Halla stalked through the mangrove, intent on finding new prey to eat and although she'd considered a dolphin she ultimately decided it couldn't possibly as good as salmon. She would save her more watery expeditions for prey she knew was worthy of the effort. Her ears flicked forward at the tell tale grunting of a wild boar. Curiosity lured her closer. If it was a mother with young she might be able to snag one of the babies but a full size monster was out of the question. Although, it might be a different story with an ally. She spied a handsome young man watching the boar, the brilliant patches of color alerting her to his presence. No doubt he'd likely see her as well. She spoke softly. "Do you intend to hunt that beast? If so, consider me an ally." "Talk" |

Wyndelin wasn't looking for much of anything in particular. He'd journeyed eastward and soon found himself navigating along the shoreline and eventually into the mangrove forest. It was a lush land, humid and warm and full of summer life. Oh and the bird songs! Wyndelin wondered how many kinds of birds there were here, he saw a few small, bright yellow birds flitter across his line of sight. He was so busy listening and watching the birds that he didn't watch where he was walking. He stumbled and slid down a muddy embankment before bumping into something massive, bristly and very upset. An angry squeal made his ears ring as he scrambled back to his feet next to a large wild boar. "Talk" |

Hattori wasn't left alone for long, a stranger soon arrived on the scene and offered some aid. He turned a little, his gaze cold and critical but he was quick to accept her request with a slight dip of his head. And then like a trickling stream two more wolves appeared and offered a lending paw, he half wondered where they were all coming from and how he hadn't noticed them earlier. But that was neither here nor there, he supposed, since they now had the numbers to get the job done. Deciding that there was no longer a reason to be stealthy since one of the new comers was insufferably clumsy and had already alerted the hog, Hattori waded into the water ahead of the group as he quickly formed a game plan.
As a group they could attack and hound the hog from several different angles, wearing it down till it was too weak to fight off the finishing blow. He paused and turned to look back at the others.
"Attack it from all angles in order to chip away at it's defences. Only go for the killing blow when it's weak. This may take some time."
And with that Hattori rushed in, sending water splashing in all directions as he lunged forth and extended his talons. They ripped into the boars shoulder and it let out a pained squeal as it struggled and thrashed in an attempt to ward him off with its tusks. He side stepped with ease, helped by the pigs limited mobility, and took a moment to observe the damage his talons had inflicted. The gashes were deep and bleeding profusely, tainting the water red as the smell flooded his nose. He imagined the scent and commotion might attract some unwelcome additions but there were enough wolves present that it probably wouldn't be an issue. And if it did come down to that Hattori was willing to defend his kill.

Halla didn't recognize the black and white male that joined them but she did recognize Wyndelin and she flinched as he managed to fall right on top of their prey. The horned male gave out instructions and she nodded, slipping carefully into the water. The horned man attacked first with Halla close behind, she zeroed in on the boar's left thigh. With a mighty leap she leapt from the water and closed the distance between herself and the boar, her fangs digging deep into its thigh. It thrashed and twisted but could bend around far enough to reach her, nor could it properly kick at her. She held on, digging deep as she sought to sever the large veins and arteries in the legs. Wyndelin was mortified but he quickly recovered, scrambling out of the way of the boar's tusks. He slipped over the mangrove roots and into the water as three wolves, one of which he recognized, attacked. Feeling guilty for potentially ruining the hunt he was quick to get involved. Spying the uninjured front leg, Wyndelin bounded forward and sank his teeth into the leg where it connected to the neck. He pressed his fangs in deep, thrashing his head as he specifically targeted the tendons there. Hopefully this would limit the hog's movement. His spot had another advantage in that there were mangrove roots between him and the hog's head. It thrashed and tore into the roots but so far he was spared any damage. "Talk" |

The hog was a biggun and if they managed to bring it down there would be more than enough to go around. Hattori knew that it wouldn't go down without a fight but he was surprised at how cunning it was, that it seemed to be using mangroves as a makeshift defence. Had the roles been reversed he would have done the same, would have taken advantage of the fact his assailants could only attack from a limited amount of angles. But the one mistake it seemed to keep falling back on was the fact that it was far too focused on protecting it's throat, sure it was important because if either one of them got a good grip then it'd be game over for the hog. But something had to give and that was the level of defence on it's flanks. He noticed that his temporary allies had realised this as well as they were focusing on its forelimbs and shoulders, biting and thrashing away to inflict as much damage as possible.
Hattori leapt back into the fray again, noting that the water was steadily rising and was now up to his shins. He splashed the hog in his hurry, inadvertently stunning it for a second as he dipped around and latched onto the soft flesh just behind it's front right limb. It was a bit of a challenge to fight with so many wolves in such close quarters but despite the fact they were all relative strangers they worked well enough together. At the very least Hattori had no real complaints, for now. Yanking back, Hattori dug his paws into the silty mud and arched his spine as he pulled back, aiming to tear away a considerable amount of skin and flesh in the process.

Halla worked her fangs in deeper and deeper, thrashing her head as she went, even to the point of ripping off a chunk of meat and eating it right there. Blood was pouring down the boar's leg now. Halla kept at it, digging in deeper and deeper. The boar kicked back at her, grazing her chest. She let go for a moment to reassess then dove back in for the already injured location, seeking to worsen the damage. Then she struck gold. Her fangs ripped into the femoral artery. The force from the hog's own heart causing the blood to squirt out. Halla took a hit to the face and stumbled back, sputtering for a moment as some of the blood got in her left eye. "Talk" |

Wyndelin did his best to hold on. The hog shook him loose a few times but as the fight went on it weakened and weakened. The tide was moving swiftly in. Wynd dug his jaws deeper into the front of the boar, eventually twisting his jaws in toward the neck. He dug in as the boar squealed and struggled but it was in vain. Wyndelin's fangs pierced a large artery and with another rush of blood loss the animal started losing all fight. Its struggling became weaker and weaker. Wyndelin kept digging in, blood soaking his muzzle. He wouldn't stop until he was certain the boar was dead and no longer proposed a threat. "Talk" |

The boar shoulder checked Hattori and sent him stumbling back as a hiss rushed out from between his gritted teeth. Luckily the hit had landed on his good side but the force of it rumbled through him, causing him breathe deep as he shoved the throbbing pain aside. They were so close, he just needed to hold on for a little longer. With all of their efforts combined it was clear to see that the boar was losing its strength, it's breathing was wheezy and slow whilst it moved about all sluggish, as though it was simply going through the motions of defending itself. Stepping close Hattori glanced to the other's checking their condition before he moved in for the killing blow. His movements were sharp and decisive as he dipped down and clamped onto the boar's throat, it gasped against his hold struggling a little harder now that it knew it's end was fast approaching. In a sense this was a mercy killing, it better to die fighting than to drown.
He held on, choking the life out of the boar with a firm and unwavering grip. And then the beast was dead.
