You Can't Go Wrong With Hog Meat

After hunting boar with the mysterious horned man, Halla had learned that she had a taste for that particular meat. She'd never dream of hunting one solo so after some tracking she'd found Wyndelin and the black and white male named Star. Together the three were on the hunt for a boar. Their tracking led them to the Weeping Woods of the southeast. Halla scouted through the trees, ears alert as she tracked the scent of blood. She froze as she suddenly spied a large boar resting in the brush. It's sides were heaving and she could see that it was wounded. The wounds looked to be puncture and she was fairly certain it had been gored in a fight with another male. Those tusks could do serious damage. So how best to do this? This one wasn't trapped like the other had been. "Talk" |

Wyndelin brought up the rear. He wasn't too sure about hunting a wild boar. It had been an exhilarating experience but they'd lucked out in finding one trapped in the mangrove roots. He really doubted they'd be that lucky. Boar were dangerous. He'd rather stick to prey like deer and elk but all the same he'd agreed to go on the hunt. If it got to dangerous they could always bail. He arrived and settled down on the other side of Halla, looking the boar over. He took particular notice of the way it was laying down. One of its legs was at a bad angle. He spoke in a low voice, wary of alerting the boar to their presence. "I think the right front leg is broken, look." That would make this much easier. "Talk" |

The Weeping Woods were essentially the girls backyard. She had a tree here that she climbed and slept in often and that was her destination when the smell of various wolves drifted to her nares. Familiar smells. Rounding one of the massive trees, Aslatiel grinned. "We've got to stop meeting like this." It was the bunch that she'd killed the elk with. Coming up beside them, she peered out over the brush, her purple gaze going in their direction. Ahhhh, thaaaat was why they were here.
Boar had been her very first kill with her father. She knew them well. This one, however, was absolutely massive. The biggest she'd ever seen. As before, she looked to the eldest of them, waiting for direction. she really wanted in on this one.

Halla continued to examine the wild boar, her eyes going to the leg as Wyndelin mentioned it looked broken. That would certain explain why the boar was in no big hurry to move. Her ears flicked back. She turned her head to see the yearling that had assisted in the elk hunt. She offered a greeting, nodding her head. "Your arrival is fortuitous. We're hoping to kill that boar and feast if you wish to lend your fangs." She looked at the boar for another moment then made up her mind. "It is injured and has a broken leg. First let's test it, see what the motion of range is and how willing it is to fight. Then we move in. Star and I will go for either side of its throat if you two can keep it distracted." As she and Star were the biggest in the group she felt they'd be better suited to getting in close. Really, this would be a plan-as-you-go hunt. She wasn't familiar with boar except for one hunt. Wyndelin nodded a greeting to the yearling. They were becoming quite a little hunting team. Maybe they could go for something again after this. His ears flicked forward as Halla spoke and he nodded. Ok, he got the gist. Star moved first and Wyndelin followed after. As the boar whipped around to try and tag the black and white male, Wyndelin moved in and snapped his fangs over the right side of the boars face, enough to dig moderate lacerations but not enough to get hold. The boar whipped around again, just missing him. It was surprisingly fast for its size however the range of motion seemed pretty limited. It wasn't able to get up and come after them. Just turn within its own radius. That didn't make it safe though. It still had the strength to whip those tusks around. Wyndelin snarled, seeking to get the boars attention. "Talk" |

Halla laid out a bit of a plan, but Asla felt the need to add a word of warning. "Be careful. They can spin in a dime and can break a wolf to pieces easier than anything. Stay away from the front end." The young wolf nodded and split from the group, skirting around from bush to bush, tree to tree, keeping herself out of sight until the last minute.
Asla sprang forward, shooting into view. The boar saw her and struggled to its feet, a squealing grunt parting its tusked maw. She kept well out of range so it wouldn't be able to charge her in time to do damage. The girl growled, tail arching over her spine to make herself look larger. The boar was nipped and began to spin, but Asla was on it. She darted in, snapped at the edge of its jaw, then jumped back before it could swing to strike her.

Halla lingered in the shadows as the others darted forward, testing the hog. She was acutely aware of the danger. Even if the hog was injured and couldn't manage to run it could roll over and crush a wolf. She had to be careful. Halla slunk forward and as the hog swung to try and gore the yearling Halla charged forward, latching onto the left side of the boars throat. Her lower fangs were underneath while her upper fangs sank in on the side. She wrapped her arms around the left side of the neck but she was struggling to hang on as the boar squealed and ripped its head from side to side. She was shaken like a rag doll, back and forth. Her hind legs and tail flung wide as she struggled to keep her balance and her grip. "Talk" |

Wyndelin circled the boar, trying to determine where the next best point of attack would be. He lingered behind it, snapping at its hindquarters, forcing it to try and go forward despite the injured limb. When Halla and Star moved in for the throat Wyndelin sought to assist. He sized up the hog but then Star was sent flying. Shit! Wyndelin quickly moved to replace the other male. He seized the right side of the hogs throat, doing his best to stay as flush against the creature as he could for as it thrashed the tusks came alarmingly close to his hind legs. He held on tight as the boar struggled and slumped forward. It gurgled, blood seeping out of its mouth. Wyndelin bit down harder, snagging a large artery which started to spill blood. Moments later the hog was dead. "Talk" |

Shit. Star was sent crashing to the ground and Aslatiel had no choice. The girl dove forward, teeth and claws going for the boars eyes. While the others took turns at the throat, she clung to its face. The pig squealed and thrashed, but it was quickly losing steam. In time, it was dead, its big body slumping to the ground. She released her hold on the boars face, glad that it hadn't managed to clamp her lower half in its mouth.
Stepping back, Aslatiel panted and shook her head. The severed artery had squirted her pale coat with jets of steaming pig blood. She looked a mess. With the pig dead though, she was quite satisfied. "Well done," she grinned at the lot of them.
