Ulric found his way back to the dens where the pack resided at the top of Sunset Falls with a prairie chicken dangling from his jaws. He was still trying to find something that would sit well in his poor fiancé's stomach. She hadn't been feeling well for a while now on and off, but when he knew something was really off was when he brought her pheasant since he knew that was her favorite. The fact that pheasant wasn't even appetizing to her really got him worried. It became a personal mission to find something she would eat and he had gone far and wide to try and find something that would suit her. The more time went by that she continued to be sick the more he worried that something was seriously wrong. It was just now getting into the afternoon when he returned since he had spent the early morning doing a patrol around the pack's borders and had then gone out to the plains in search of something new for her to try. He wasn't sure how much difference there was between the meat of a pheasant and the meat of a chicken, but he felt certain that it was worth a shot. He approached their den even though he wasn't sure if she would be there or off doing something else, but he figured that at least he could leave it here for her to eat later. To his surprise, as he got closer, he found Azariah waiting by the den and he trotted over to where she was sitting. She had an odd expression that he didn't really know how to interpret, but he tried not to jump to any conclusions before she could tell him what was going on. Once he had placed the chicken near her he gave her a smile and leaned in to place a tender lick on her cheek. "How are you feeling today, love?" |

Normally, she would have been cozied up and curled about herself in the den. She had never really been one to rise with the sun, but the motions of pack life seemed to be pulling her waking hours closer and closer to sunrise. Something had been bothering her, and the witch hadn't been able to quite pin down what was going on, not until this morning. It had been yet another failed breakfast, Ulric had been so sweet in his worry over Aza, even getting her favorite meal! The monochrome lady knew something was wrong when she hadn't been able to even keep down pheasant! It had been enough that she wanted to seek a healer that was maybe more skilled than she was, she simply couldn't pin down her symptoms. Azariah had never experienced anything like this before, and while she had been around a pregnant wolf or two, she had never bothered to ask what the signs were. The nausea and aversion to foods that she normally loved were enough to cause alarm, coupled with the fact that her sense of smell seemed to increase dramatically - she would swear she could smell the water from the ocean - the witch had been scared! She was almost always tired and slept for long periods of time, her hips seemed to ache deep in her bones, and she had noticed herself nearly getting a temper with Ulric - though this change wouldn't have come out to be viewed openly. It was more a sense of impatience, like something really great was going to happen.
When she sought help, she found it in the dark female called Tamsyn, Resin's mate. After she had told the other woman, Tam had just laughed and reassured Aza that nothing was wrong with her. The suggestion that she could be pregnant made her head spin. Could she even get pregnant? Lucifer had tried over and over again to get her in such a condition to no avail, could it be that her body knew he was a threat? All this time she had thought herself to be barren, it would be a miracle if she was to have Ulric's brood growing inside her! As if in answer, a swarm of butterflies fluttered vigorously in the pit of her stomach, making her smile outwardly as she sat by the den mouth waiting for her soon-to-be-husband. He did not keep her waiting long, and brought with him another attempt at food. Remaining seated, she danced her front paws slightly against the earth and gave a wide smile at his concerned question. "Love, I am over the moon with just how good I feel. I found out what's ailing me!" Ever one for a dramatic reveal, Aza simply grew quiet and kept that wide grin plastered on her alabaster face. Ruby eyes glittered and grew misty as she eagerly awaited his inevitable question of what was making her feel so wretched. It was funny, now that she knew, she didn't feel sick at all!

The excited patter of her feet and the way she was practically bursting at the seams with happiness was infectious. He still couldn't quite comprehend what it was that she had figured out, but he found himself grinning like a fool none of the less to match the huge grin she was currently wearing. He was just happy to know that she knew why she had been feeling so off and so sick. It had been so hard not knowing how to help so at least now that feeling of unknown wouldn't be plaguing him. Ulric watched his sweet fiancé with curiosity, hanging on her every word as she told him that she knew what was going on, but left him hanging without a real answer. He laughed and settled onto his haunches in front of her, leaning down to bump his nose against her forehead playfully. "Well, out with it then! Don't just leave me in suspense like that!" he insisted with a slight chuckle to his voice. It was incredible how much he fed off of her energy. When she didn't feel well he didn't either. When she was excited he was excited. Everything she did was so contagious, but she made him so very, very happy. Somehow the possibility of her being pregnant didn't even cross his mind and he sat there waiting with an expectant grin for her to tell him what was going on. |

She tried her best to keep her focus and not simply break down in girlish screams of delight. Honestly, she didn't even know if she could prance around like that while she was in the condition she was in, so she was stuck with hopping rapidly between her front paws while she sat. It was easy to see that he had caught her excitement, and it made her tail beat faster against the ground. Azariah didn't want to keep him waiting any longer but she couldn't quite bring herself to ruin the surprise in plain English. "When do one and one make three, Ulric?" The witch asked happily, the tiny beings that she believed resided within her. It was surreal, she could hardly keep herself from denying such a thing could have happened. Eagerly waiting to see what his reaction would be to her riddle. She knew it wouldn't take very long to decode, he was a smart man. Azariah just knew he would be happy, ecstatic even! Hope grew in her ruby gaze, and she kept that wide smile. Just for added effect, Azariah gave him a bit of time before she couldn't hold it in any longer. "My love, we are going to be parents!" She squeaked then, and wiggled in place. The epitome of a happy expectant mother!

Ulric waited expectantly for her answer, only to be given a riddle of sorts. Of course he should have expected such a thing - Azariah was certainly once for theatrics. One plus one equaling three? The reality still felt so impossible that it still took a moment for the answer to come to him, but when it did his eyes widened with disbelief and he gaped at his fiancé though his lips were still pulled up into a huge, joyful grin. He couldn't find the words to ask the question to confirm that's what she meant, but luckily he didn't have to. She did ti for him, telling him that they were going to be parents. That word resounded in his head and he had a hard time believing that she was telling the truth. Parents! Once that initial shock faded a bit he let out a giddy laugh, his heavy tail thumping against the ground as his heart felt like it had soared into the sky with how happy she had made him. He'd almost given up the hope of ever finding someone to love before he met Azariah and the idea of having a family had been just a hint of a dream that being with her had begun to rekindle. He hadn't thought that this would actually happen for quite a while still since he had been so focused on their other dreams for the future, but now it was real and he was over the moon. He reached out with a large forelimb to scoop her up and hold her tight to his chest, pressing his lips to hers in a passionate, lingering kiss. He couldn't find the right words to describe how happy he was and how much of a gift she was to him so he just showered her in affection and love instead, letting his actions speak where his words failed him. When he pulled back again from their kiss, he grinned down at her once more. He felt a stinging in his eyes as happy, overwhelmed tears threatened to collect in his silver gaze that he tried to quickly blink them away with a soft chuckle. He brushed a large paw gently against her cheek as he whispered, "We're going to be parents?! He repeated the statement he had told her just to make absolutely certain that his mind wasn't playing tricks on him and that this was actually real. |

His reaction was better than she could have ever hoped. She got to watch as shock and disbelief struck him then his face shifted to a joy she wanted to capture forever. His bear hug caused her heart to race and her breath to leave her lungs, but she laughed anyway, tears of joy stinging her eyes as he pressed his lips to hers in a hot, passionate kiss. Azariah giggled against his lips and wrapped her forelimbs around him, overjoyed at the happiness she brought her fiance. Ulric pulled back from their kiss to look at her and she felt more tears flood her eyes and spillover at the sight of his tears, he was that happy? Gently, so gently he cupped her cheek in his paw and she looked into the depths of those silver eyes that she adored so much, the joy swimming there was overwhelming on its own. Her grin couldn't possibly get any wider, and she half-laughed, half-cried at his parroted response. "We are going to be parents!" The monochrome beauty stated excitedly, practically vibrating with joy, fear, anticipation, and excitement. There were more things swirling in her mind, and tiny flutters in her stomach, and a hundred new feelings going through her that she could never hope to sort them out.
The biggest was wonder at the miracle Ulric had given her. Azariah had thought herself barren, that it wasn't possible because...well, it had never happened with her captor. It was such a relief to have an answer to that question, to know that she had made the right decision and had been blessed for it. Azariah found herself lost in his eyes, staring at him with that plain joy on her face, zoned out in the depths of his joy. Reaching forward, Azariah kissed her fiance and only paused for small breaths. Then she parted their lips and tucked her head into his chest and sobbed. Her wails would almost sound like grief, if not for the happy context of before. Lifting her head she tilted her head back and cried out as if she were dying, a howl and banshee scream at once, "I am so happy!!" After her declaration to the heavens, Azariah once again returned her head to the thick fur of her true love's chest and burrowed in. She couldn't help the flood of emotions that took her over, it was so much! Surely, her heart would burst from sheer love, happiness, and overwhelming joy! The moment was so surreal her head spun, and she was forced to cling to the solid frame of her soon-to-be-husband to keep her grounded.
Oh my god, this was really happening!

Hearing her confirm the fact for him yet again made it feel even more real and sent him into another fit of giddy laughter, tail wags, and another squeeze of his arms for good measure. She brought out so much happiness in him and softened him into what he felt was a more true version of himself and he couldn't be more grateful to have her in his life. Before they met he had gotten into such a dark place of doubt and anger, but now all he could feel when he looked toward the future was happiness and hope. She gave him a reason to work and strive for everything he had dreamed of and gave him things that he didn't even know he needed. He had been searching for answers when her love had been the answer all along. He lost himself in her kisses and love, reveling it this pure joy and overwhelming happiness that she had given him. He was going to be a father! His mind was racing with all kinds of things from what they might look like to how their personalities were going to develop to getting to tell his mother that she was going to be a grandmother again to how all of this was going to change is plans for their eventual pack. It was all pulling him in so many directions that he didn't know where to put his focus and eventually he just let it all go in favor of just focusing on Azariah. He thought about how she felt pressed against him and how much he loved her kisses and how now more than ever he just wanted to hide her away from the world and protect her. She was the one glimmering beacon of light in his life and even though he still didn't know everything about her past he would do everything in his power to make sure she never felt hurt or sadness ever again. When she pulled away from their kisses to tuck her head into his chest he smiled and brought his other foreleg up to wrap her up entirely in his embrace and cuddle her protectively. When he heard her sobs his smile faltered and he looked down at her with confusion and worry, his ears flicking uncertainly. Was there something else? Was something wrong? Had he done something? All kinds of questions went though his head to try and figure out the sudden change, but soon enough he got his answer in the form of her screaming how happy she was before tucking her head down against his chest again. Her sudden yelling made his eyes go wide and it took a moment for the shock to wear off before his expression softened again and he grinned with a little shake of his head. So perhaps this was the mood swings and wild emotions he had always heard about... He chuckled softly and squeezed her gently in his arms, dipping his head so that he could give the top of hers a tender lick. "I am too, my love. I'm so, so incredibly happy." |
