Bait had been bored and a bored fox is a dangerous one.  Dangerous at least to a bunch of dumb chickens.  They weren’t packed together but still the whole cluster of them kept some thought to where their friends were and keeping close.  The red fox wasn’t hungry as he’d already eaten a few rats earlier today but the chickens offered something else special.  The chickens just looked fun.  What was it about them that drew Bait’s interest?  Was it their sheer stupidity or just something about the way they walked?  One of the foolish things actually walked towards him causing Bait to take one step forward and snap his jaws for a *clack* sound that sent the chicken fluttering off.  Dumb bird.

Bait took a wide circle around the circumference of the area the chickens had set for themselves head and tail low.  Finding a favored spot Bait gave in to his desire and krept in closer, slow step by step.  It was almost an irritation how some seemed uncaring but there were a few with a grain of sense that kept a wary eye on him.  Bait did a half lunge towards a dumb one, lunging and snapping at the air so it figured out to not ignore the fox.

That was better.  Bait chased the foolish chicken, never quite letting himself catch up for the pounce.  Chickens fluttered out of the way around him. Their fear made his heart pound harder with joy.  He noticed once they got far enough out the dumb things would seem calmer again.  That was fine, Bait had found his target.  There was no need to kill it but the bird would entertain him if nothing else.  Perhaps next time it would be less trusting of a fox watching it.  These chickens needed to get some exercise right?  Bait was helping them out in his own way.
