Áskell bounded across the battlefield as he looked for a good place to settle down and call someone for a fight. His father trailed behind him but he paid the older man no heed. It was his turn to pick where he wanted to fight and he knew there was a flattish place up ahead. Rounding past a knotted, gnarly tree he found the perfect location. It was a clearing covered in ankle-deep grass. Tipping back his head Áskell called for an opponent. He was ready to fight anyone and anything, be it pup, adult or any other manner of creature. If the creature that answered his call was particularly mean he could have his dad scare them off.

Cairo had taken him to the Battlefied for the first time, and they’d spent the first hour there working through slow-motion sparring until a howl, a young one, turned both heads. Cairo nodded at him and Ardyn took off at a trot, leading the way. When he found the caller, Cairo peeled off and flopped near the other man—hey, that was… Ardyn paused, then remembered, grinning as he trotted forward, aiming to stop about five to six feet away from the boy he’d met on that trip with his mother and siblings. “Aksell! Want the first move?”
He offered the honor happily, settling into a ready stance, glad for Cairo’s drill-work. His front toes flexed, claws slipping in and out of their sheathes and testing the ground as his tail flicked through the air finding a balanced position. His chin tucked, shoulders wiggling as he waited to intercept or make the first move if Aksell chose to give him the first move instead.
Lyr floated on the air currents overhead, ready to involve himself if needed.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
Áskell stretched lightly as he awaited an opponent, it turned out that he didn't have to wait long as a tall, dark and familiar figure entered onto the scene. His tail wagged as he saw the boy they'd hunted prairie dogs with. "Hey Ardyn! Sure!" This was better than he could've hoped for. He'd been expecting to spar a complete stranger so it was nice to get to spar someone he'd actually met, even if the boy was bigger and stronger than he was.
Áskell pinned his ears, tucked his tail and set the rest of his defenses as Kári took to the air above to observe. He darted for the taller boy and slipped over to his own right as his head rotated, fangs questing for Ardyn's left knee. He hoped to deliver a solid blow and show that he was tough for his age.

Ardyn about vibrated as Aksell took the first move, and as the smaller boy darted forward, Ardyn waited until the last second before snapping both forelegs up and lunging as Aksell’s teeth missed their mark. Ardyn, meanwhile, aimed to snatch the other boy’s scruff in his right front paw, elongated toes seeking to gain a grip and jerk Aksell off his feet at best, stagger him at the very least.
He was careful to keep his claws sheathed as he sought with his left front paw to snag Aksell’s right front leg above the ankle and jerk, hoping to further his aim of knocking the smaller boy down, remembering his mother’s words about a smaller opponent having a better advantage for getting under him with their teeth.
His own teeth were slightly bared in a playful growl as he aimed to catch Aksell’s left ear in his front teeth, aiming for a gentle grip that wouldn’t engage his sharp, long canines.
His tail was ablaze with the wagging, partly for balance, but also for sheer delight at the experience of sparring someone who wasn’t his sibling.

Ardyn lunged and pulled himself out of Áskell's range. The boy quickly twisted around to follow after the other boy's rear end. Fine, then he would go for the butt! The butt would be his! As he was maneuvering to follow Ardyn's rear he unwittingly maneuvered out of the way of the other boy's attack, though he still felt paws scrape against his hips as he darted to follow the other boy around. He kept his ears pinned and made sure to tuck his tail. He didn't want Ardyn pulling on his tail like his dad did sometimes when they played. Áskell put on a burst of speed as he aimed to bite onto Ardyn's left butt cheek. He hoped to get a solid grip and then hang on for dear life.

It was almost like fighting Coran or Aoife. Aksell was quick, and Ardyn, tipped his head to keep the smaller boy in view as he slipped by. Ardyn twisted as he spotted Aksell’s head moving toward his rump, tail tucking to protect his haunches as he pivoted on his front paws, swinging his rump out of reach as his front end twisted toward the smaller boy.
His jaws parted, aiming to catch Aksell’s left hind leg, just under the hock, behind his canines for a playful tug that might serve to unbalance Aksell in the process. He was careful, ready to abort the move, not just in case Aksell countered, but also in case his grip missed the mark. He didn’t want his canines harming his opponent by accident.
His weight shifted to his other three legs as his left front paw rose and he sought to catch Aksell’s right back leg in his fingers and jerk it under the smaller pup, toward himself and topple Aksell in the process.
