You Talkin' To Me?

Chimera had been stalking the injured deer for some time. It limped along, a big tear in its hind quarter from his own teeth. He knew that he couldn't bring down a deer alone, but he knew that he had more stamina. If he injured it, let it bleed out and followed it, he'd surely be able to bring it down eventually, right? The black and white dire boy followed his future meal to a stream where it bent its head and began to drink. Hmm, maybe he could drown it. As Chimera's muscled tensed to spring and run for the deer, another huge form rushed from the foliage. A lion slammed into the injured doe, mashing it to the ground. Anger surged through the big boy and he continued forward, sinking his teeth into the haunch of the big cat. With the deer bleeding out into the stream, the lioness turned and took a swipe at Chimera who just barely avoided the claws. He was pissed. This cat was not getting his meal. Not if he could help it, anyway. "Speech" |

The smell of blood lay heavy on the air, a brief gust of wind bringing the stench straight to Caelia's nose as she finished the long trek across the sand dunes toward the valley. This place had been a good reprieve for her lately, allowing herself some moments to herself as she explored the intricacies of the winding valley, a little home away from home. But today something else piqued her interest, and she trailed after the scent, only pausing when she got a better look at the scene.
Everything happened quickly. She saw the flash of a wolf charging something, but unfortunately it wasn't the only predator on the horizon. In a flash another creature - a feline, she deduced - was lunging toward it as well. The possibility of a meal was suddenly tempting, and despite her time away from home she felt a pang of misplaced loneliness that made her want to help this stranger. If not for her own sake, for a bit of conversation, and maybe the thrill of a good fight would help remind her that she wasn't just alive, but still living.
Thinking fast, she decided to act. Springing down from the hill she'd been perched upon, she made a mad dash for the lioness, aiming to fling herself onto its back. Probably not the most ideal move for a wolf, but Caelia hoped she could get a hold on the scruff behind its neck and help Chimera get a better hold on her. She and Cairo had taken down a lion bigger than this one once before, so surely she could handle this one, right? She didn't dare remember how she'd been pretty sure that lion's death had been sheer luck, with skill playing a much smaller role.

The attack of a second wolf caught the lioness off guard. It definitely caught the monochromatic boy off guard as well, but there was no time to think about it. With the pale woman on the cats back, Chimera launched himself in once more, latching his jaws around the base of the cats tail in an attempt to damage the vertebrae. The cat spun and Chimera kept hold, swinging around with it, his paws barely on the ground. Only when the spinning stopped did he pull his teeth away. The spinning had made him a little dizzy and he knew that he was at a disadvantage with the world spinning. Now that he was still, he could see the cat clearly. It looked as though it was prepared to roll and kick which would throw the woman away from it. "Look out," Chimera growled before jumping forward again. He grabbed one hind paw and began to pull, trying to knock the cat onto its stomach instead. "Speech" |

Though she'd never been the reckless time, always one to sit back and wait with calculated action, Caelia knew life didn't always give you as much freedom to assess a situation before reacting. Hesitating too long could cost someone their meal, or - worse case scenario - their life. Watching a yearling die wasn't exactly something she'd enjoy, not when her friend's death was still painfully fresh in her mind. She reacted quickly, lunging onto the lioness's back and struggling to hold on as if her life depended upon it.
The feline spinning caused her to lose her balance, but she'd attempt to use her slight size to a advantage, ducking in and nipping at the lioness's forepaws, figuring distraction was as good as any real attack while Chimera went for the base of her tail. At the verbal cue she spun out of the way, nearly losing her own balance in the process, though she regained it after a moment of rebalancing. Swiveling behind the lioness now, she came tumbling down and Caelia dove toward one of her hind flanks, hoping to grab hold of the tender flesh that connected her hind leg to her stomach.

The lion was beginning to realize its mistake. Blood poured from various wounds. It wasn't a skinny lion at all and the deer wasn't life or death. So, rather than continue fighting for the kill, it began fighting to escape.
Chimera once again bit into the lion's haunch, teeth sinking deep. The lion growled, swiped, and continued to move away from the kill with each movement. This had all been easier than the black and white boy imagined. No injuries to him. No injuries to the second wolf, though he didn't care about that part. The dumb cat was simply ousted and that would be that. He had been denied the pleasure of his kill and that left him a little grumpy, but he would still be able to take something home for himself and Siren.
In time, with enough bites, the lion made a break for it, tucking tail and tearing away from the two wolves. Usually Chimera would follow for a while, but he had a meal to worry about. Just his luck this woman would try to steal it from him. Licking the blood from his lips, Chi moved back towards the dead deer.

It seemed their tactics worked, however skillful they'd been or not. When it came to her own experience with predators, however limited that might be, she always acted out of sheer instinct. Fortunately for them it seemed whatever they'd done had scared the lion off, and before it land itself into deeper trouble over something... well, not worth getting into a life-or-death situation over. Caelia stood her ground, trembling from sheer adrenaline as the lion warily backed away, clearly defeated even if alive and with injuries it would surely recover from.
Only when they were definitely in the clear did she redirect her attention to Chimera. It was hard to tell what he was thinking but he didn't seem outwardly pleased with her company. Just like the lion, Caelia wouldn't risk her safety trying to get a share of the kill even if she felt she deserved it. She was proud, but not foolish, especially when matched with someone much larger than her. "Caelia Adravendi," she introduced herself after a moment, with a slight dip of her head. She was still panting slightly and was trying to steady her breathing. Testing the waters she made a slight movement forward to see how he'd react. She knew nothing abut him, and when it came to strangers she was always cautious at first.
