First Snow
Autumn reigned for as long as it could but eventually winter moved in. However, to Lúta's delight, winter came in gently. It tested the waters with a light snow falling out of a dove gray sky. Lúta picked her way up the rocky terrain next to the falls with a bundle of abscess root in her mouth. Autumn was the best time to gather it and she had just returned from her final trip. Well, for autumnal herbs anyway as there were still some herbs that could be gathered in the winter though the were few and far between. She had hoped to arrange for a lesson before the end of the gathering season but it just hadn't panned out the way she wanted. Oh well, winter would be a good time to go over lessons as there wasn't as much to be done in the field. Perhaps she should speak with Resin about the best skills to focus on. She did have some dried moss that might be good to share with less knowledgeable healers.
Daphne was not a child that had ever really been small enough to sneak. Pair that with her very large and very round cinnamon racoon, the pair practically thundered through the Hallows, rustling underbrush and snapping branches... Or they had, until the oranges and browns of fallen leaves were suddenly blanketed with a fine dusting of white.
Mismatched eyes squinted everywhere, trying to make heads or tails of it. The earth around the hot springs was as bare as ever, apparently warmth was the enemy of the white stuff that made her toes and nose numb if she stuck them in there for too long. It was almost like the cold water. Maybe it would be good to use on hurts too?
As if thinking of healing had been enough to summon the perfect person to ask, she looked up in time to see Luta, a bundle of something in her jaws. The large child’s tail waved about as she thundered forward, with none of the intent to tackle that she would have had if it had been one of the boys she had spotted. "Whatcha got there Lu?" The girl asked excitedly. If anyone knew how to help people, it was this wolf, and one day Daphne hoped she could know even half as much.
"speech".
Lúta worked along her path as she allowed her thoughts to wander. On her tongue was the earthy, bitter taste of the root but she was glad to have found it. It would be useful in the times ahead. Auster was a good ways from where the Hallows currently made their home and sprains and blisters were likely on a long journey. She paused as she heard someone approach and she turned to see one Daphne. Lúta smiled and set the root down so she could speak. "Hello Daphne, I have some abscess root here. It is a good herb for slowing bleeding and swelling. You can also use it for coughs. What brings you out here?" If the pup wished to learn more she was happy to try teaching. She knew that was an important role in her rank of Seneschal though she was an introverted sort and uncertain of her abilities to teach. Still, she did enjoy sharing what she knew. If she could just learn the best way to do so.
Daphne moved in closer, ears turned attentively towards Lu as she explained what the root was. The large pup sniffed in the bitter scent, rolled it with her foot to get a look at it from all angles and then gave it a lick to get a taste for good measure. Her face screwed up and she dragged her tongue along her teeth to try and remove the bitterness. How far had Luta carried the thing?! "Got bored." She answered simply with a smile. She had sparred with the boys and now she needed to give them a break so they’d be happy to spar again the next time she wanted to train. "One day, I want to be a great healer like you. I don’t mind fighting if it keeps my family safe, but I want to be able to help strangers too." Her head tipped to the side considering whether or not the other woman would think her statement strange. Probably not. Lu seemed like a safe grown up to talk to about this sort of thing.
"speech".
Lúta chuckled lightly as she watched Daphne curiously give the plant a lick. "Yea, it doesn't taste very good raw like this." Thankfully it wasn't something she really administered internally. She preferred to add it to poultices and ointments. The pup explained that she was bored and as she complimented the older healer, Lúta blushed. She wasn't used to receiving compliments or statements about being a great healer, or a great anything really. She wasn't quite sure what to say. "Oh, well, thank you. I still have much to learn but I do when I can. I think fighting and healing are a good match up of skills." Fighters often had wounds to tend to and having a greater knowledge of anatomy and how the body functioned could help inform one's attacks. "Is there anything in particular you'd like to learn about? I'd be happy to give you a lesson if you like."
